About Amy

We are passionate about our land and the animals it supports. If you have an interest in pasture management and buffalo, we'll happily talk your ears off! Campfires, star gazing, sunsets, hiking, biking, and kayaking are our favorite things to enjoy together.

Amy purchased this lodge in 2012

Why Amy chose Kingsville

We are committed to restoring native habitat and bringing back the creatures that dwell in them. Prior owners had used and abused the land, clearly more interested in shooting anything that moved rather than enjoying the symbiotic relationship between life and land. The property now serves as a refuge for wildlife and abounds with songbirds, turkeys, blue herons, deer, squirrels, rabbits, coyotes, the occasional bobcat - and buffalo, of course!

Currently, we're engaged in soil restoration, a multi-year process that will re-establish a thriving soil base of microorganisms, insects, and worms - all critical to the soil ecosystem. Our grass is only as healthy and hardy as the soil it grows in. Healthy grass means healthy buffalo, so as Michael likes to say, "We're grass farmers first, buffalo ranchers second."

Guestbook comments from the manager

When we arrived Sunday afternoon, December 8, at the most incredible, soon-to-explode jewel of Missouri, Buffalo Lodge, for a birthday get-away, I was blown away. I have heard rumblings of this “got-to-see-it-to-believe-it” locale and my wife deemed it closer than Big Cedar Lodge (one of my frequented birthday celebration venues) and perhaps almost as nice. She was correct on the former (only 50 minutes from Leawood) and mistaken on the latter…it was every bit as wonderful as that hallowed Ozarks vacation heaven.

We arrived in a dusting of snow, though every step from drive to front door had been swept away. A fresh wreath on the door greeted us as we entered into the pine-finished paradise called “The Lodge.” None of the pictures do it justice. The attention to detail by the owners is almost OCD. Not a speck of grit, dust, cobwebs, burned out bulbs, stains, smears. Our room was topped by freshly pressed sheets, fluffy towels, soft music and an almost zen level of peacefulness. Even the stoneware plates were stacked in correct color sequence! We enjoyed personalized (and beautifully printed) menus prepared in-house by Chef Jaymie who created dinners of chicken parmesan one evening and bison steaks the next. Both were so tender, I could cut them with a fork.

The next morning, I enjoyed the expansive glass windows as I watched the snow drift across the pastures. Not a human in sight. Outside…not a single sound. Nirvana!

On Day Two, the in-house masseuse arrived to provide 90 minute massages in front of the fireplace. In the afternoon, we did a little day-tripping to nearby Greenwood and Pleasant Hill before returning for dinner.

Beautiful log home in NW Missouri...

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Buffalo Lodge for a weekend getaway with friends... It ended up being super cold and snowing, but we all had an absolutely amazing time. The cabin is AWESOME with all the amenities needed for cooking and grilling.. We just hung out, played cards, told stories around the fire and simply relaxed for a weekend.. The lodge is easy to find, is on pavement, but is tucked away and super private. Amy and Michael took us on a bison tour, and although freezing we all had a great time.. We even walked to the lake to check it out... We had a great time while it was snowing, I can't imagine how much fun it would be if we could have been able to sit around the fire pit or hangout at the lake!!!

Beautiful Getaway Experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the lodge as a part of our wedding weekend and I am very grateful that we did. Every single guest that walked into the lodge was completely stunned. It was clear that every detail had been thought of to allow guests to have that home-away-from-home feeling, while also living in luxury. Our wedding party was able to start the weekend enjoying time together surrounding the fire pit, enjoying the stocked fishing pond, or lounging around before the hustle and bustle of the wedding day. With plenty of space to spread out, no one felt cramped or had to worry about stepping on anyone’s toes. I personally was able to wake up early and enjoy watching the sunset while listening to the birds chirping and the buffalo in the background. Not only was this a vacation, but an experience to be remembered. This is truly a destination to be recognized for its exceptional beauty and thoughtful amenities. Don't pass this one up!

An amazing rustic experience!

  • 5 of 5

The house, decor and atmosphere put on by the Buffalo Lodge were rustic and romantic. I loved all of the decor, the warmth of the rooms and the amenities available to the guests staying there. The only thing that could have been better was the insulation! You could hear everything throughout the house. It was not a problem for us as it was family staying there but that was our only issue. I am glad that earplugs were provided for all guests. The beds were SO insanely comfortable and there were pillows and blankets throughout the house. This was wonderful since I am always cold. The fireplace in the living room was also very cozy. It was also nice to have a full kitchen available for any uses that we needed it. Closet space is available in most rooms and there is room to fit a lot of people into this house! We loved being able to stay at the lodge while having our wedding on the property as well. I highly recommend waking up and watching a sunrise from the living room as the property is absolutely gorgeous. There were buffalo in the distance. Watching that with a hot cup of tea in hand on the morning of my wedding was absolutely fabulous.

We were worried about not being able to run everyone through the shower in the morning but there were plenty of showers (4) + a bath tub and we never ran out of hot water which was great! Ample towels and other hotel amenities were provided up to and including delicious chocolate mints on each night stand.

Working with Amy for the lodge and the wedding was very pleasant. She was there to walk us through all things in the lodge and extremely helpful over emails and in person.

We used the art gallery for our rehearsal dinner. There was plenty of space and guests loved getting to see the house as well as eat there. It does not give off "basement" vibe at all. It successfully captures the native/western vibe of the entire house. The game room and extra bathroom in the basement were a huge hit for the guys who wanted to watch tv and hangout. It is a great idea to have it on the basement level because you can't hear what is going on there throughout the house. (No loud TV noise to worry about)

Overall, we were so happy with our experience at the Buffalo Lodge and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone whether it is for a wedding or just a weekend getaway. :)

Rusticly Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful property and all the amenities you need for a weekend away! We stayed for our wedding so didn't have much time to enjoy the fire pit or fishing, but the property was breath taking. Definitely need the ear plugs while sleeping in the house if you are enjoying it with guests as the all wood home is a little noisy, but worth it with the beauty! The buffalo were so fun to see and all the guests (for the weekend and wedding) enjoyed the character they added as well. The house is serene and perfect for a getaway with friends/family if you're wanting to get off the grid for a weekend!
