About the property

3 bedroom, 2 Bath Lake House

Our new house is a 1300 square foot home that is being built in the fall of 2018 on the same site as our 1920 cabin. Our year round home will sleep 8 people. We offer wireless internet, smart TV's in the living areas and bedrooms. The sound bar in the living room is bluetooth capable so you can listen to your favorite songs off your smart phone or tablet. We offer a fully furnished kitchen with a stove, fridge with ice maker, microwave, and dishwasher. A washer and dryer are available for your use just off the kitchen. Sheets and pillow cases are provided. Personal items are not. If you choose to stay with us, there are no large steps to overcome and that is great for anyone with mobility issues. To exit and enter the house you will only have couple steps to deal with.

There is a concrete patio between the lake and the house with sun umbrellas, a gas grill and a fire ring. At the end of the dock there is an electric boat hoist with cover for boats 21 feet and smaller. You may reserve the hoist for your stay for an extra $125 per stay. Boat rentals are available through Great Lakes Marine Service. You may call 712-336-3822 to rent a boat or look them up online at http://www.greatlakesmarineservice.biz/index.html.

Pets are negotiable. We do not allow pets that shed inside the dwelling because of family allergies. We have had hunters and their dogs come and stay with us. The hunting dogs then stayed in their kennel at night in the garage. We maybe open to non shedding, hyper allergenic pets in the house. Contact the owner for more information.

About John Olson

We have been in and around the Iowa Great Lakes since the early 1980's. Our family is involved in education, business, accounting, construction, remodeling and property management. We have several rental properties in the area we manage. We share our lake house with others when we are not using the house.

John Olson purchased this house in 2006

Why John Olson chose Spirit Lake

Location, Location, Location! Living on the south shore of Big Spirit Lake allows quick and easy access to town, restaurants, shopping and all the amenities the Iowa Great Lakes has to offer. There is a public sand beach, park, boat ramp and drive inn 1/8 mile to the east, a bike trail across the road to the south and the fish hatchery is 1/4 mile to the east as well.

What makes this house unique

Our home is new for 2019. Someday we hope to live there full time. It is right on the water and close to public beaches, boat ramp and town.

We live on the quite lake in Okoboji. No matter what the holiday weekend or where the wind is from, you can always find a quiet stretch of water to relax and play in. You will love the sunsets and flashing lights of the windmills at night 10 miles to the north.

Just what we wanted!!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the mornings with coffee on the deck, right on the lake, just relaxing. Beautiful spot. The cabin is cozy and comfortable and unique in many ways. With just the two of us, it worked out great, I slept in the upstairs and my girlfriend slept downstairs and we each had our own bath. We did not do any cooking, as eating out was our vacation treat, but the kitchen seemed to we well supplied with anything you would need. We really enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings and did cook hot dogs over the open fire ... nice treat!! We had a minor problem with the sliding screen door to the deck, which I reported to John the day that we left, he was very cordial and thanked me for relaying that to him. Overall, it was just a very nice place to get away, be by the lake and relax. I would highly recommend it!

Perfect location for lakefront access!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property! The lake house is is true to its name as far as vintage, but that is what we were looking for! The property is very clean as well as nicely maintained! The view alone is worth every penny! Boating, swimming & fishing access is easy and owners are also wonderful to work with! It’s been a perfect 2018 family vacation! We’ll be back!!

Relaxing

  • 3 of 5

They are doing a good job remodeling but love the deck the best. The lake is beautiful. Would love to come again with a boat but it,s a little too pricey for my pocketbook with the extra charge for use of the dock. Was really relaxing there and enjoyed my time and the owners are very nice

The property is a little dated. Front porch needs work.

Owner's Response: Leanne, Thanks for the kind words! : ) Yes, you are correct. The porch needs attention. The boards on the inside the porch don't hold paint what so ever and so we quit painting the inside of the porch by the screens. The screen door needs replaced. We had plans to bulldoze the cabin down and build a new house on our lot this fall and so we kept putting that task off. Sadly, things did not fall into place for us for us to build this fall and we will have to replace the screen door later this fall or in the spring. Thanks so much for renting from us! You were a wonderful guest and took great care of the place. John

Irene

I am late in posting this but did want to say that my family was very pleased with this place. It was a very relaxing weekend for us. Areas close by to do things with our two granddaughters. Washing machine was definitely a plus. Two bathrooms was definitely a plus also with 7 adults and 2 small children. Would definitely do it again if it works out for us. John was so nice and very easy to work with and very understanding.

Hidden Treasure!

  • 5 of 5

The listing for this property was accurate. The pictures provided give you a small glimpse of the beauty that awaits you. The patio, dock and view are exceptional. The house has all the amenities you could ask for to make your stay easy. The family room was wonderful and so comfortable!! Very homey! The only thing we missed was our queen size bed but we really enjoyed the upstairs rooms, very quaint and cozy. The bathrooms were very nice and we liked having two, made getting ready so much easier. The area was wonderful and had many great places to explore. There were also many tasty places to share a meal. John was great to work with and so accommodating and worked hard to meet all of our needs. This is truly a hidden treasure and we can't wait to stay there again! We would highly recommend a stay!
