Casa Tavizna is a charming, three-bedroom cottage situated near the top of the old Moorish quarter of Montejaque. It is new to the rental market and has two new beds, linens, towels, stove top and TV. The location is very quiet and offers a superb view of the town and surrounding valley and mountains. Low doorways and beamed vaulted ceilings in the living room, master bedroom and kitchen are delightful highlights of the cottage’s renovation in 2004. Another quirky feature is its cozy double bedroom, with ensuite, located outside the main house, just off the first terrace.
The master bedroom, next to the quaint living room, has a comfortable new queen-sized bed, and the wood-burning fireplace in the living room can be seen from the master if you leave the door open. The single bedroom, with a four poster bed, is just off the kitchen.
The kitchen is fully appointed with a new electric stove top, electric oven, washing machine and dishwasher.
A highlight of the cottage is its three terraces: the lowest provides a quiet place for coffee in the morning; the middle terrace is perfect for dining; and the top terrace offers a large sitting area for relaxing and sunbathing – with beautiful views of the village and surrounding mountains and valley.
Montejaque is a slice of old Spain, with less than 1,000 residents, and everyone is very friendly. What passes for a traffic jam is three cars parked in front of the bakery at 8:30 AM. Because of its location, the closest parking for Casa Tavizna is about a five-minute walk away; and the plaza, where several bars, a couple of tapas restaurants and a formal restaurant are located, is also a five-minute (downhill) walk. There are several other restaurants and bars a short distance from the plaza, as well as an excellent restaurant in Benaojan Estación, less than 10 minutes away by car. There are many hiking trails in the area, and historic Ronda, with all that it has to offer, is about 20 minutes away.
Because of the steepness of the hill to get to Casa Tavizna from either the main plaza or parking, it is not recommended for wheelchairs or anyone who has mobility issues. You cannot access the house by car.
If you’re looking for a quiet Spanish getaway in a very quaint village, then this is the place for you.
