About the property

Mouth of the Rappahannock River where it meets the Chesapeake Bay.

Welcome to White Stone in the beautiful Northern Neck of Virginia! Our house is located on Windmill Point, at the mouth of the Rappahanock River on its northern bank, where it meets the Chesapeake Bay. We know you will enjoy your family vacation on the banks of the Rappahanock River. Here you will find a stay that is very private 2.5 acres of land, with 250 feet of water frontage, 150 feet of sandy beach, a dock for fishing and jumping, a half basketball court, corn-toss, fire pit, and plenty of room to play. We can sleep 10, we have three bedrooms (two with queen size beds, and a bunk room with two bunkbeds, and a futon. Two bathrooms, and a spacious outdoor shower.

From our beach, the river is five miles wide, directly across from Deltaville, and a quarter mile northwest of the Chesapeake. Our 2.5 acres of land boasts 250 feet of shoreline, a private sandy beach, a dock, a waverunner lift, a basketball court, and enough room to toss around a football, frisbee, baseball, lacrosse ball, or anything else that flies. We have two sea kayaks available for your use, as well as a paddle board, and you are welcome to bring your own sunfish, waverunner, windsurfer, or other beach toys that will enhance your vacation. But don’t worry about bringing your own beach chairs or beach umbrella – we got that covered!

No slimy sand on our beach – at low tide with the slow sloping beach an adult can walk 100 plus yards off the shore and still be standing. Bring your own waverunner and put it on our lift to use at your leisure without having to tow in and out with each use. We often have schools of dolphins in the river, particularly during the late summer. Tall pines on the front yard (river facing) provide excellent shade in the afternoon if you need a break from the sunny beach to play a game of corn toss, or to set up the fire for the evening in the fire pit to sample some smores with the kids. Catch some fish off of the dock, or, if you are as bad as we are at fishing, drive in the morning to the commercial fisherman up the road to get some flounder fresh from his morning catch. Try throwing some bait in our crab trap (chicken necks often work) and with some luck you may be eating blue crabs for dinner. Enjoy your morning coffee on the outdoor patio, play card games on the front screen porch, take an overexposed picture of the spectacular sunsets, or just kick back with a cold refreshing drink and let the summer day just stretch on!

Walk to the Pelican Bar/Restaurant on the water to catch a live band on a Saturday night, head up the road to Irvington to catch breakfast at the Tide’s Inn, from there sample some local wine and oysters at the Dog and Oyster, head into Kilmarnock for some antique and specialty shops. Hit the links at either Golden Eagle or King Carter golf course, each about 10 country miles away (if you are used to waiting to take a shot at a crowded city course, prepare for having the course to yourself). Take a day trip to Busch Gardens, historic Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown, Richmond (each between 1 and 1.5 hours), Virginia Beach (2 hours), or even Washington D.C. (2.75 hours). We know you will have a fantastic vacation at an affordable price.

About Jenelle Hatch

John and Jenelle have been married 17 years and have four wonderful sons. We are a very athletic family and have come to love being at the river and all it has to offer. Last year (2012) our life took us from Arlington, VA to Austin, TX. We are now not able to spend as much time at the river and would like to share it with others. Our kids have spent the last five summers here, attending sailing and baseball camp, wakeboarding, water-skiing, tubing, and just playing in the water. The kids have also enjoyed catching rockfish, flounder, and spot off the pier. Crab pot off the dock too. I'm sure you will enjoy it just as much as we have.

Fabulous rivah property, well kept....great view, private, great owners

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about this home. The view, the fire pit, the dock, the sandy beach, everything. It is so relaxing, well equipped and perfectly hospitable. It has character, with some modern updates. We caught a rockfish right off the dock, enjoyed beautiful sunsets, went to a local farmers market, steamed crabs, shucked oysters, you name it....we did it. If you are looking to get away and relax, this is the home for you.

It's definitely all about the location

  • 3 of 5

We had a nice time overall despite a rough start. This May in VA saw more rainfall than in the past few decades and this place sits in a low-lying area, we drove through standing water just to get to the house, it was still there when we left. Had we been told before we left (the owners knew this) we'd have probably rescheduled. We also had issues with one toilet that required a visit from the plumber, who told me he was there a week or so before for the same issue and the toilet needed replaced, it wasn't and it wasn't by the time we left. But we're a resilient bunch and just tried to ignore that stuff. The owners are working with us to accommodate and that's helpful. We enjoyed the beach, dock, crab pot, the kayaks and paddle boards, etc. I wish we could've enjoyed the rear of the house and played some basketball or had the kids ride bikes on the concrete but the swampy conditions made that impossible. Whitestone is a cool spot to escape and feel like you're away from it all and this spot provides that quite well. This house just needs some TLC (some windows don't work, screens don't fit, and the above issues) to really make sure guests have zero issues to contend with to just enjoy their stay rather than have to function as a homeowner when they're away from home. I took my Watchman Stove and had some good meals prepared on the rear patio area.(glad I did, wasn't enough propane in any of the 3 tanks that were there for the grill) The mosquitoes and biting flies were too bad to enjoy outside meals but the raised picnic table area would be great for that. Chartered a fishing boat from Windmill Point Marina (Miss Linda) and caught a cooler full of spot one day, that was fun. So, good location, plenty to enjoy outside, but don't expect luxury, which again is fine as long as everything works.

Loved it !

  • 5 of 5

Jenelle was a great host. And was very quick to respond to any of our questions. Location was amazing with 2 small kids and dog it was perfect. We seen a huge amount of wildlife also. From seahorses, crabs, many types of fish, eels and a bold eagle was nested in the back of the property. It was clean and had pretty much everything we need for our stay. And we plan to come back again next summer.

Perfect rustic river getaway

  • 5 of 5

Windmill point is the perfect setup for a long river weekend. We ate our meals and enjoyed the view of the water on the screened in porch. They have kayaks, beach chairs and corn hole to set up on the beach. We enjoyed sitting on the dock in the evening and watching the sunset. Beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked. Would definitely stay here again.

Great pick for a romantic getaway or fun vacation with friends

  • 5 of 5

For the past 3 years, we've sought out a secluded cabin for a week-long summer getaway with our dog. Private homes are hard to search for on VRBO-- and it was even more of a challenge to find one on the beach!

This place was perfect, and we had a great time kayaking and frolicking on the beach with our dog. The house was very spacious, and would have been fun to share with a group of friends. We loved the screened-in porch-- we called it the "solarium." :)

One negative-- the shower water smells like sulfur, and the water from the faucets isn't good. A water cooler is provided, but we wished we had just one more refill-- we were there for a week, and we felt like we had to ration ourselves. We ran out as we were packing up to leave! If we had known, we would have brought our own water. (We came with all of our groceries and stayed put all week.)

Overall, we had a fantastic vacation and would definitely return.
