Guestbook comments from the owner

My family including two kids, age 12 & 15, stayed at Rainbow Lodge for 3 weeks,Aug-Sept,2012.

We had a most fantastic time,Trevor ,the owner, was so welcoming and all his friends were a delight to meet.

We were taken into the Rainforest and fishing out at sea, all through Trev`s contacts.

The Lodge itself is beautiful, it is well maintained and the views are stunning, looking out to the Caribbean Sea across the rainforest .

We had some tasty meals out, to be honest we would quite happily have stayed at the villa and not travel out, as lying in the hammock by the pool could have been enough.

A walk down to the waterfall is just lovely through the old cocoa estate.

We would not hesitate to recommend this villa, which is away from the hustle and bustle of the the more touristy parts of the island, to any one thinking of a beautiful Caribbean ,Tobago holiday, we give Rainbow Lodge 5 stars.

We come away with wonderful memories and a wish to return.

Great location, stunning views & wildlife

  • 5 of 5

Like a lot of other folk, we arrived after dark, having been picked up at the airport by Taylors, who also stopped for us at the shops on the way. This is wise as there aren't too many bigger shops around (although Castara supermarket isn't bad). We just got the basics for that evening and breakfast, but with a bit of planning probably should have got more of the basics. Jeep was already at the property, and you do need it, as the track up is fairly steep and uneven in places. Woken early by the birds, which for us was part of the reason to be there. My first hummingbird was in the kitchen whilst preparing breakfast! The place itself is amazing, with excellent facilities, especially in the outdoor decking and pool area, and the view is exceptional - we'll really miss hanging out there watching the many species of bird and butterfly, most of which are exotic to us, and cooling off in the pool. Trevor is very amenable, and gives you as much or as little time and advice as you need, and his groundsman Ranger is also very helpful, but again unintrusive (he gave us various fruits from around the grounds, and showed us a few other plants). At night it is very peaceful, and with the windows open giving a nice breeze, we didn't need to use the fans. All in all, if you are into nature and being away from it all, but still want access to nice beaches and occasional nightlife, this is paradise. Choices of beach include Englishman's Bay (our fav), Castara, Parlatuvier and Bloody Bay, and the 'nightlife' I refer to is Castara, the nearest main place for eateries and other entertainment (20min drive). And make sure you get out into the forest, at least with a guide to start with - we went with a certified guide called Fitzroy who was brilliant, and took us on a 4 hour walk. Speyside is still nearly an hour's drive, but a must for Little Tobago, and the accessible reef there. This part of the island is fabulous for the more rustic and nature-loving types, as it's greener and hillier than the south west - if you want partying probably best to stay nearer Crown Point. All the people we met were just lovely and so friendly, and despite what some night have read, we felt safe and secure even on the secluded beaches like Englishman's Bay. And coming back to this property always felt like a real privilege, with the resident nightjars and bats. Thanks very much Trevor, love what you've created there!

We had a 10 day stay here and it really is a get away from it all place to stay (although you have Andy's bar and places to eat all locally). We arrived at night, having taken the advice of Trevor and hired a 4x4 from Taylor's). They picked us up at the airport, drove us to Casatra where we hopped in the jeep and followed them to Xanadu.

Trevor was there with his warm welcome but it was the next morning when we woke up to that view - wow.

What a place, great pool, etc, etc. etc. and we really didn't get troubled by insects too much - few bites but nothing really.

We did visit other parts of the island, but this area was brilliant - really liked Bloody Bay and Englishman's Bay and also Kings Bay on the other side of the island.

Very very relaxing - Trevor was great, would highly recommend - photo's don't do it justice - great place

We were staying in Xanadu and wow the pictures and description do not do it justice. We arrived in the dark and Trevor met us and explained all that we needed and then we sat on the verandah. It was so peaceful but when we woke I the morning we could not get over the amazing situation of the villa. Lying in bed watching parakeets, and many other species of birds flying past the window, to be able to see the Caribbean Sea from the bedroom window was amazing. Everything was wonderful, to be able to shower looking out on the rain forest was amazing.

The huge verandah was so great when we had the occasional rainy day, to be able to sit out in swim wear while it was raining and still be warm and dry was fantastic.

Do make sure you hire a jeep to get up the hill to the house and stock up on essentials at the supermarket in Crown Point before arriving.

Use candles at night and you will not need to worry about bugs, especially if you use the citronella candles and spirals which stop the mosquito's.

The villa was well equipped and we felt safe at all times, with Windows and doors left open all day and night. The verandah was extremely well equipped for eating and sunbathing with a huge selection of places to lie and sit to enjoy the sun and shade.

We have never stayed anywhere as idyllic as Villa Xanadu and loved every minute.

Thank you Trevor for letting us stay in your wonderful villa and for your help with anything we asked. We hope to return very soon.

One of the best vacation locations I've ever been

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't wait to write this review. The accommodations we absolutely amazing and the picture don't do it justice. Yes it was a bit of a trek to get to but so worth it. If you're looking for a place to get away and enjoy being a part of nature this is the spot. Loved sleeping outdoors and visiting the near by town for homemade ice cream. My partner summed it up. You had the experience of sleeping outdoor but in the comfort of a soft bed. We had no problems with bugs, birds, geckos, or bats. We loved having the birds visit and waking up to all the nature sounds. The hike to the waterfall was easy especially if you have the right footwear. The pool provided privacy for skinny dipping late at night. Now about Trevor....what a kind and informative host. He was onsite if we needed anything and invisible if you wanted privacy. We look forward to returning and can't wait to make this our regular get away location. Thanks for building such a wonderful place and creating such an experience for your guest!

A sately pleasure dome indeed

  • 5 of 5

As Coleridge said 'And here were forests ancient as the hills, Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.'

Circumstances had contrived for me, my wife and my cousin to spend two days at Xanadu, having been let down by our booked apartment elsewhere. What serendipity! We were made most welcome by Trevor at this hideaway he has painstakingly built, nestling in the rain forest overlooking the Caribbean Sea. At the very end of the track, with only wild life (humming birds in the greenery outside the kitchen windows, birds nesting in the exposed rafters) for company, is the timber constructed chalet style apartment. Well equipped and with wonderful views over the forest to the sea, and a very private pool, this is the ideal place to spend a few days unwinding from real life.

We loved it.

Among the greatest memories of our lives!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had the greatest, most relaxing vacation of our lives! Trevor's lovely mountain villa was more beautiful than photos can convey. And he was the most gracious host we could have had. We think of the days we spent there often, even months later. We can't wait to return!

Located 150m above sea level. Part of an old coco plantation, with its own private waterfall. Well kept trails into the rain forest, a bird watchers dream. Panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, the sisters rocks - offshore islands famous for deep sea diving and fishing. This sleepy fishing village nestled in the horseshoe bay of Parletuvier, with its night lit jetty, where lines are thrown late into the cool evening.

Imbi's shop caters for most needs. Sharon at the bar cooks daily lunch, fresh fish from the days catch.

To the west is the world famous beach at Englishman's Bay, Eula will feed you there.

Bloody Bay to the east, named for the savage naval battle fought between the English and French.

'The sea turned crimson and bodies washed up on Dead Mans Bay. There is a fabulous waterfall just in from the secluded beach.
