Why Mike Quinn chose Basseterre
This property has it all. It is a private residence set in the Half Moon Bay Villa development and located adjacent to the Royal St. Kitts Golf Course. After visiting St kitts for over 15 years we finally found our ideal island home. Leeward breezes, a temperate climate and absolute privacy make the villa a perfect retreat. We visit numerous time per year, and adore the welcome we always receive. The island itself is home to beautiful pristine beaches and a wonderful variety of activities. The people of St. Kitts are warm and friendly and are glad to share their knowledge of the island and its' treasures. Other 'natives', the little vervet monkeys, are fun to watch. And the local seafood is incredible, while being quite reasonably priced. The dress code is casual everywhere. There are superb restaurants featuring local fare. Bassetterre, the capital city, and Port Zante offer shoppers a variety of unique goods. Of great interest is the history of the island, with its' roots in the sugar industry. St Kitts is dotted with ruins of old plantations, some of which are home to restaurants and hotels now. Others, left to ruin, are fun to explore. The 'mother' of the island, the volcano, can be hiked through the rain forest and has breath-taking views down to the crater. While the beaches are all public, it is not hard to find one where you can be alone to enjoy the sun and white sand and watch the tropical fish. The water is clear and warm and boasts many varieties of coral and sea life. There are several wrecks to explore with scuba diving. And you can always find a charter or take the ferry to Nevis, our sister island. The St. Kitts Royal Golf Club is one-of-kind in that it plays on both the Atlantic and Caribbean sides of the island.

We have stayed at this villa several times and absolutely love it. It is comfortable, private and has beautiful views of the golf course as well as the ocean. It is stocked with all 0f the amenities you could need. The location is perfect whether you want to explore the island or just relax by the pool. It is very safe and if there are any problems, the management is very prompt in resolving them. We would highly recommend this property and look forward to coming back next year!
A wonderful view overlooking the golf course and ocean
This Villa has a spectacular view! We walked the back nine of the golf course early every morning while watching the waves crash to shore. I would recommend a car but it is not necessary as you can walk to the grocery store and restaurants. The villa was very well equipped and we did appreciate the starter kit of groceries, beer and wine. The plunge pool is totally private and well maintained with comfy outdoor furniture. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

Nice & Clean
Terrific pool and view but very buggy
Hard to know how many stars to give this property. On the one hand, we had a great week and loved the pool and the privacy. We were usually the only ones on the beach ,too. Appreciated the beach towels and umbrella and chairs. Great to have the rental agent, Jo, available to answer questions and to have put the basics in the fridge. Lots of spices and herbs to use and owners were very nice to make everything available to renters.
What wasn't so great were the bugs and I mean a lot of bugs. Ants crawling all over the food in the cupboards. Ants in the bathroom on the vanity. We got eaten alive every night - either by no- see -ums or mosquitos or both I hate going to bed with spray on me, so I would spray all around the bed but it didn't help. I did discover a window with no screen in the living room and closed that but it made no difference. Strange thing was that every night we went out to eat and always ate outdoors but had no issues with bugs at any of the restaurants.
The villa is not as immaculate as I thought it would be. Basic cleaning but cleaners didn't go out of their way. Hair in tub and on floor in bathroom. Didn't dust everywhere. Nothing horrible but not as clean as I am used to. Thin and scratchy towels in the bathroom and same for sheets on bed. Bathroom is old and needs updating.
Also there was no information booklet, as promised. Jo was a lifesaver - told us how to get to the beach and turn on the air conditioning and where the supermarkets were, etc...
Hammock shown in the photos is no longer there either.
Many thanks for booking with us, and for your comments and suggestions on our Home Away from Home. Visitor expectations can vary and we do welcome individual feedback and experiences, so we can make things better for our next visitors. Great that you appreciated the additional amenities. We do leave many of our own items for guests to use as over the years we have learnt what works for us and would wish our guests to have benefit of that.
We are disappointed that you did not feel that the cleaning was up to standard. It’s the first time that this has ever been raised as a concern, and we have asked Jo to speak to the cleaner about this. Wherever we travel we would expect a place to be spotless and would also expect our place to be the same.
On the bugs front that can be tricky depending on the time of year. We have the villa sprayed regularly as being in the tropics we know it can be a concern from overseas visitors. Mosquitos and no-seeums are a part of island living and we do leave bug spray in the villa for people to use. We will though add to our villa file about closing doors at dawn and dusk as that is when they can be most prevalent. We are lucky being on the Atlantic side that we get the fabulous breezes that keep most bugs away.
We will be at the villa shortly, and will review the towels and sheets and make sure they are up to standard. We will also add to the file the location of the hammock if guests wish to use it. We did buy a new one, so it is not the same as pictured.
It would also be helpful to know which aspects of the bathroom you feel need updating. We love the spa tub and the large vanity, and would appreciate your thoughts for upgrades.
Jo is a great information resource as things do often change whilst we are off island. We will though ensure that our information folder is updated when we come in a few weeks time.
Thank you again for your booking and hope you enjoyed St Kitts as much as we do.
Nice property and great location. It’s close to many restaurants and beach bars.
The pool was great and the views are amazing. Would definitely recommend this place to others.
Our third year was as great as our first!
We have stayed here for three straight years and have loved every minute of it. The property is well maintained, with all of the comforts of home. We love sitting at the pool, taking in the beautiful views while watching the golfers tee off on #12. The island is like our second home and this villa is in the perfect location for us to start and end our day. Jo is very responsive if we need anything.
The villa is located at the edge of the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club. It features a 180 degree view of the southern portion of the island from the lush gardens and private pool. Must see activities beside golf include beaches, fine dining, shopping, sailing, mountain climbing, Eco tours, zip lining, rain forests, volcano tour, riding the old 'sugar train', biking, hiking, horseback riding, and visits to numerous historic sites. Be sure to check out the beach restaurants to sample the local lobster and conch dishes and watch the native vervet monkeys. Shells abound on the white sand beaches where the water is warm and clear. Although all beaches are public, you can easily find one that can be your 'private beach'. A drive around the island gives insight into the history of the island with magnificent views of both the Atlantic coast and the Caribbean coast. Dress is casual, no matter where you go. Try the local rums, beers and selection of fine wines available anywhere. A ferry or water taxis are available for visits to Nevis, St. Kitts' sister island. Boat charters and fishing expeditions abound. Fresh fish, seafood and an array of local produce can be found at the farmer's market downtown. The villa also has a range of organic fruit in the gardens which is available for your enjoyment - bananas, papayas, plantains, and various fresh herbs, to name a few. Lounge by the private pool while you enjoy the windward breezes and view, or enjoy the oversized jacuzzi tub after an afternoon on the course or at the beach. Privacy is the key feature. The villa is the utmost retreat.
