Being offered for your secluded getaway is a well kept, well appointed, contemporary log home. The ground floor includes the Master Bedroom and bath, den w/ fireplace (firewood is furnished), full kitchen and dining area. Bedroom linens are high quality and professionally laundered. Guests frequently say they feel they have been pampered because the beds are so comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with an abundant supply of cookware, tableware, and serve ware. There's also a selection of basic spices and staples. Lakeside (rear) of the house is a large deck with plenty of seating and lounges furnished. Poolside (front) of the house is a covered porch also serving as a covered walkway to the Bunkhouse (not included in basic pricing for the main house) with ping-pong/playroom downstairs and additional sleeping space upstairs including 2 queen size beds, sofas and chairs in one undivided large room. The second floor of the main house includes two additional bedrooms, one with a full-size bed and one with two twin-size beds. The two upstairs bedrooms are joined by a shared full bathroom. Upstairs there is a seating area with large television, AppleTV, DVD player and a small collection of DVD movies. There is an upstairs balcony lakeside. The log house has a metal roof on which the 'pitter-patter' sound will lull you to sleep in a gentle to moderate rain. The metal roof can also make creaking and popping sounds when the suns begins to warm it up after being cool in the mornings. It's part of the charm but can surprise you until you become accustomed to the sounds. (You'll miss it when you're gone)

The stunning pool area surrounds an approximately 20' by 40' gunite swimming pool with a low jump-board. The pool uses salt for chlorine conversion so the water feels softer than a typically chlorinated pool. It is easier on skin, clothing and eyes and does not have the odor of a chlorinated pool. The pool is fenced and gated with an iron fence and beautiful landscaping. There is a bar at the pool that includes a sink and built-in refrigerator. The bar is covered by an arbor that hosts abundant wisteria to shade you from the sun. The pool area is lighted for use in the evenings. There are numerous chairs and lounges with seat cushions and pool floats. The shower house at the pool includes full restroom facilities with a wonderful rainshower type shower head.

Nearby the swimming pool is a precious playhouse for youngsters (used by our daughters in their childhood). Farther away, at the top of the hill near the orchard, is a treehouse (used by our sons in their childhood). It's a simple but idyllic structure in the trees, to be used only under adult supervision. There are many private acres, both fields and forests, for your walking and exploration. While Center Hill Lake, an Army Corps of Engineers managed impoundment, is lovely to view from the house, it is a significant undertaking to hike to the water's edge. It appears to be reasonably close but is in fact about 300 feet away and 300 feet below in elevation. There is abundant wildlife in the area. There are nature guide books at the house to aide you in identifying the various species if you have interest.

There are cutting garden areas. If anything is in bloom during your stay and you like fresh flowers in the house you are welcomed to use reasonable quantities. The gardener will likely be around some if your visit is during the growing season. There are about 20 acres we keep mown and around the house there is always something that needs to be planted, trimmed, or removed. If your stay for is more than seven nights the housekeeper will visit to change beds and freshen up the bathrooms, etc.

The town of Cookeville is approximately 20 minutes away. There you will find numerous franchise and local dining establishments, shopping opportunities, groceries and entertainment options. Frequently there are bands playing complimentary live performances in the city parks. Check the Cookeville, Tennessee website for more information. We would be glad to assist you with advice on special opportunities at the time of your scheduled visit. There are numerous Tennessee State Parks within close proximity, a regional medical center (CRMC) for emergency requirements, and numerous other attractions for a variety of interests.

About J.D. Parks

Our family enjoyed living on this property for about 15 years prior to moving back into the nearby town of Cookeville. Since moving to another home in about 2008 we've continued to make improvements to the grounds and structures. We're very proud of our little private paradise.

Why J.D. Parks chose Baxter

While this property could be considered rustic, it is elegant as well. We have developed this lakeview setting for the comfort and enjoyment of our family and guests. When we are there we think we should never leave, and possibly you will feel the same. From April through October you can enjoy either the blooms of the wisteria, bridal wreath spirea, crepe myrtle, hearty hibiscus and butterfly bushes. Another of our favorites is the peonies that usually bloom profusely about the middle of May. There's generally good floral color from the beginning of April till the middle of October when the leaves of the hardwood forests begin their magnificent colorful transformation to fall colors. You'll find the location is condusive to indoor/outdoor leisure for folks who'd like a few days 'off the grid'.

What makes this lodge unique

When you arrive you'll drive down the half-mile of driveway, through forested fields, then suddenly break over a hilltop and see what seems to be a private compound. When you awaken your first morning your breath will be taken by the fresh morning light on the 'pool' side of the house. Then in the evening the sunsets, occasional foggy landscapes, and glistening views of Center Hill Lake on the lakeside will ease you. The well appointed, private swimming pool was planned by top Nashville landscape architects and the plantings were executed according to a commissioned plan by Southern Living Magazine. In season at the pool you'll find a bar sink and refrigerator for your convenience while relaxing and a gas grill for cooking if you wish. The shower-house at the pool provides nearby facilities for a restroom as well as a fabulous rainshower type shower stall.

One of a kind property...

My wife and I booked this property for 4 days and had a hard time leaving to go back home. Total privacy/isolation and water view were our non-negotiable needs, and this property didn't disappoint. There are no surrounding neighbors, making it extremely private, and the view from the back decks was incredible. The weather didn't allow us to make use of the beautiful pool area but we still had a very tranquil and fufilling time. We plan to book another visit soon to take full advantage of the pool, outside cabana/ bar area, and hot tub. It was clean, well stocked, and very roomy. On top of that, the owner, J.D., was a pleasure to deal with. He was friendly, prepared, fair, and genuinely concerned with our visit. I highly recommend the property and JD as a property manager. It has so much to offer everyone.

Georgeous home, spectacular views.

Home had all the amenities needed. No cable but we considered that a bonus. WiFi worked well. We kept the massive stack stone fireplace going the whole time. Great to celebrate Christmas and New Years. We look forward to coming back in the summer for the amazing pool. Very user friendly.

Cozy cabin - great for family Christmas getaway

Owner is very responsive and works hard to ensure an enjoyable experience. The house is well equipped and really cozy. Our 3 families fit comfortably, with the teenagers in the bunkhouse. This was our second stay here and we had a great experience both times.

Peaceful and Relaxing - inside and outside!

This is our second time at Hillmont, and definitely won't be our last!! The privacy, the peacefulness, the pool, the lake view from the back deck, the sunsets, and the very comfortable home with all the amenities needed to make our stay so enjoyable and make us feel so "at home" in a home away from home, make this one of our favorite places to get away from it all!!
