Guestbook comments from the manager

From the minute we drove up to the house we were in love. As you pull into the driveway you have a spectacular view of the waipio valley and it only gets better when you get into the house. The house is fantastic, nothing has been overlooked. The lanai is the place to relax, enjoy the view and listen to the surf, although you can do this from inside as well. The furnishings were first class. The master bedroom is huge, the bed was super comfortable, and the sliders to the lanai (with great outdoor shower) was perfect. The master also has a huge walk in closet and bath with jacuzzi tub. The main part of the house was very warm ,with dining, living and kitchen(fully stocked) all in one area - plenty of room. As there were only 2 of us we didn't even go into the other wing, but the rooms were all large and nicely appointed. Everything is new and I can't say enough about how nice this house is and how much we felt at home there. There is also a great in-law suite downstairs. Ron - the property manager, was available for our few questions. Thanks Ron! The town of honokaa has a nice grocery store, gas stations, restaurants, and shops to poke around in, about 10-15min. drive. Lastly, the biggest draw for this home is the valley itself. It is truly a sacred place. I never tired of looking at the view - you can see from all over the house. You can explore by walking down, or driving if you dare. If you have a chance, stay in this house, you'll be happy you did.

Located on the northern Hamakua Coast, the sacred Waipio Valley was the boyhood home of King Kamehameha I, and an important center for political and religious life in Hawaii. Not only is 'The Valley of the Kings' an important site for Hawaiian history and culture, it's also a place of dramatic tropical beauty. This fertile valley is about one mile across and over five-miles deep, and surrounded by cliffs up to 2000-feet high. Waipio Valley was once the home of thousands of Native Hawaiians. Today, there are less than 100 residents living amongst the waterfalls, taro fields and rivers permeating the valley. Hawaii Island's tallest waterfall, Hiilawe Falls cascades down 1,300 feet in the back of Waipio. You can view the valley from the coastal Waipio Valley Overlook at the end of the Hamakua Heritage Corridor drive, or you can take a guided van tour, hike, or horseback ride to explore the hidden wonders within. amazing location and house

  • 4 of 5

Our adult family of seven (2 generations) had a hard time deciding whether to stay and enjoy the view from the deck or head out to explore. In addition to a SPECTACULAR view, we could hear the surf from the deck. The drive from the lookout was best done with a sturdy vehicle and a driver used to non-paved roads, but did not require 4 wheel drive. Daniel and his staff responded immediately to all questions and concerns. There were plenty of water and beach toys, and coolers to use. All beds were extremely comfortable and we had everything we needed to cook most of our meals. Very private, incrediblely lovely.

Unique place off the beaten path

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Waipio. The house was very comfortable. The views and the outdoor shower were my favorite. It was secluded and felt like an adventure. The place was clean and the beds were comfortable. I highly recommend a 4-wheel drive to explore the area!

Beautiful views, friendly locals

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean, well-stocked and had the most stunning views of the valley. We are glad we got a 4 wheel drive so we were able to do some exploring. Highly recommend this place!

Beautiful home and view; downstairs studio a little run-down but rest of house truly comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed! Room enough for all 10 of us, and owners very helpful to tourism tips and recommendations. Loved this! Hope to be back some day!

Fantastic home and unbeatable view!

  • 5 of 5

Visited Feb 2018. This was an incredibly comfortable and beautiful vacation home. The owner and property manager were very helpful during our stay and responsive, even in the middle of the night, to our needs. The spacious rooms and simple, elegant furnishings made our family of six feel at home the moment we walked in. The pictures simply do not do the home justice. You have to see it to believe it!

The home is fully stocked with grill, full kitchen supplies, dishes, appliances, linens, everything you could need. We bought local fruits and meats and made an island feast one night, and had everything we needed and then some. Boogie boards, beach umbrellas, beach towels were also much appreciated! Beds were super comfortable as well, and the outdoor shower was so private and inviting we all took turns showering out there! The surroundings are very non-touristy and pristine, and the local eateries and Honokaa town were so friendly and welcoming.

- The road to the home is steep and unmarked after the Waipio Valley lookout -- be sure you get good directions to the home and renting a 4WD vehicle is highly recommended!

- It is a 45 minute drive to sunny beaches on the west side of the island, an hour to Hilo and 1:45 to Volcano. Overall a good "home base" if you don't mind taking day trips to each of these places.

I would recommend this house to anyone, and look forward to returning!

KOA and ITO both about 1 hr 15 min both < 60
Nearest Beach
1 Miles
Black Sand Beach, Waipio Valley < 1

You can find some additional info about the area at An intro video shows how easy it is to get to the house.

There are two different horseback groups in the valley and both go through streams and are more relaxed and free with your use of the horses. A favorite of my girls.

There are boogie boards and surfboards if you want to try the waves, an intermediate wave beach, but favorite of locals.

Local guided tours of the valley can be arranged. Multiple trails so be sure and bring your hiking shoes, water shoes.
