Great cottage, all the amenities!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Jim's cottage. Place was plenty spacious and had all the amenities you could want or need - he's thought of everything! Geneva National was beautiful too and in a great location to town and beaches/restaurants - we'll most definitely return!

Cute Place

  • 4 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our stay at Jim's house; however, it was not perfect. I'll start with the negatives and move to the positives.

First, it was a little dusty, not dirty, but needed a good dusting. Secondly, the kitchen garbage can really needed to be cleaned. It wasn't smelly, but was sticky and had some caked-on food on the outside. Also, the fridge had old food in it and the butter was rancid. While it is thoughtful of the owners to leave food in the fridge, it should be checked once in a while to make sure whatever is in there is fresh. Plus, the distance to town was farther than we thought, which isn't really a criticism, just a surprised observation. Finally, it took longer for me to get my refund back than I expected. We stayed the first weekend of February and I received notification that my refund was on its way on February 21st. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, so again, not a criticism, just an observation.

Now to the positives: The cottage itself was very cute. Enough room for four of us to move around easily without bumping into each other. The kitchen was small, but very functional and had a nice pass-through to the dining area. It also had every small appliance you'd need. The bedrooms were large enough and the beds very comfortable. Also, there was lots of light everywhere and the fireplace added to the ambiance.

Overall, I would stay here again and recommend it for two couples or a family with two children.

Nice, but....

  • 3 of 5

Great location, cute little cottage, and a friendly, helpful owner. Comfortable bed, but in bad need of decluttering and a good scrubbing. Very dated, and in need of some TLC. We stayed there for 3 weeks and I can tell you that we left it cleaner than we found it.

Lake Geneva, Wisconsin: Lakeside Mansions and Historical Museums

Located within 90 miles of Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison, Lake Geneva has become one of the Midwest’s most popular destinations for recreation. Geneva Lake?a gaping gulf of fresh water ripe for swimming, leisurely sails, water skiing, and tubing?is the resort town’s biggest draw in the summer. Admire the scenery by taking a stroll on the Geneva Lake Shore Path, a 21-mile walkway planned by early settlers that stretches around the entire lake. Along the way, you’ll pass expansive gardens and the opulent estates that helped the town earn the nickname “Newport of the West.”

In the winter, outdoor activities range from sledding and snowshoeing in Big Foot Beach State Park to ice-fishing on Geneva Lake. There's also plenty to do indoors. The Geneva Lake Museum takes visitors back in time with re-created late 19th- and early 20th-century shops, and the 1897-era Yerkes Observatory is home to the world's largest refracting telescope.
