About Doug McGlumphy and Jennifer Greer

Doug McGlumphy and Jennifer Greer have been married for 24 years and enjoy working and developing our family farm. Doug works as an artist and educator while Jennifer works as an academic advisor. Both enjoy raising their two sons and passing on the property's history to the next generation.

Doug McGlumphy and Jennifer Greer purchased this cabin in 1997

Why Doug McGlumphy and Jennifer Greer chose Stone Creek

Our cabin is located on 150 acres of rolling farmland in the Stucky Valley, of Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Originally settled in the 1830's by the Moomaw family, the farm was purchased in 1903 by Doug's great-grandparents, German farmers, Jacob and Emma Hisrich. It has remained in our family for over 110 years.

The farm subsequently passed down to Doug's grandparents, Laura and Vernon Hisrich who lived, raised a family and farmed the property for many decades. After their deaths the main house, outbuildings and land remained underutilized for many years and fell into decline until we purchased them, along with Doug's parents, Ed and Pat (Hisrich) McGlumphy in 1997.

In addition to the built environment, the farm consists of approximately 60% tillable land and 40% woods. In an effort to preserve the property as farmland, a local farmer uses the fields to plant crops for his dairy farm. The remainder acts as a bird sanctuary, as well as habitat for local wildlife.

We enjoy our farm and its family history and invite you to come and enjoy its peacefulness and tranquility with us. It is a labor of love and continues to be an ever-evolving endeavor. There is always something new to look at with each subsequent visit as we always have a new project in the works.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin and rural setting offers a truly unique experience for couples, families or friends to get away and relax. We even have a baseball field, hiking trails and an art gallery right outside your front door. Come and enjoy!

The perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I wanted to get away for some "us" time, and this was the perfect place. We had not been back to the Ohio Amish area in almost 10 years, and never during fall, and really wanted to spend some more time there. We finally made it happen, and Doug and Jenn's cabin truly made it an amazing memory for us. While we had many places to visit and things planned to do in the surrounding towns, we spent more time at the cabin because we just didn't want to leave. The cabin itself is just perfect. The right mix of period authenticity and modern convenience. The location is even better. Close enough to everything the area has to offer, but secluded enough that if a car happens to go by you actually look up and notice. We definitely enjoyed our daily hikes up the mountain and all the wildlife. We live in a flat coastal plain area, so yes, it is absolutely a mountain. Luckily it was cold enough the last couple of days that we were able to use the fireplace. It is truly magical. We will definitely be back.

Cozy Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary in this lovely, cozy cabin. We loved the experience and are so appreciative that Doug and Jen offer this historic cabin for others to experience.

The best thing for me was-- that in addition to actually living a few days in a cabin from the 1800s- - we had all the modern conveniences that I take for granted. When you enter you are in the original cabin- but then you walk about 20 feet and you enter the modern addition with bathroom, kitchen and sitting area with TV. It is the best of both worlds. The main bedroom is upstairs in the original cabin with a comfortable queen size bed and the "rope" bed is a smaller bed on the first floor. I tried out the rope bed and found it pretty comfortable- although my husband could not have done as well as he is 6'2" and his feet hung over the end. We did not use the porches as it was only in the 40s and 50s when we stayed- but it looked like it would have been fun to sit out there in warmer weather. There is also a loft in the modern addition with a futon for more sleeping arrangements.

The property is gorgeous and I loved being able to just walk out the front door and hike up the hill. (It's a good workout and pretty steep if you go to the top). There are lots of paths on the property and I easily wandered around them for over 30 minutes exploring most mornings. The leaves were still quite colorful ( we stayed the end of October). It was very private. Doug called as soon as we arrived to answer questions and make sure we were ok. He is available if needed but otherwise we did not encounter any other people during our stay. I did see a deer on our last morning as I headed up the hill and we had the cutest groundhog that I spotted twice from the window.

Also, we very much appreciated the breakfast and snacks left in the kitchen for us. Everything I needed to make a yummy breakfast. My husband does not enjoy having to be downstairs and dressed at a specified time for breakfast when we stay at a typical B&B -as this sort of commitment spoils the whole freedom from a schedule that he prefers for his vacation. So this arrangement was perfect.

I hope we can return again! Thanks Doug and Jen!

Beautiful historic cabin in a gorgeous setting

  • 5 of 5

This is the place to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. This beautiful historic cabin has been lovingly restored by Doug and Jenn. The addition is amazing too, a great mix old and new, with all of the comforts of home. It is truly a special place, and my boyfriend and I happily unplugged from our screens, enjoyed the peace and quiet. We loved the beautiful surroundings, the swing half way up the hill, beautiful hillside views, quiet solitude, and gorgeous fall weather. We ventured through the Amish towns and enjoyed seeing a simpler way of life. We will definitely come back here. This isba special place. Highly recommended.
