These 4 deluxe hotel rooms for 2-4 people and 4 self-catering apartments for 2-6 people (including 1 apartment for those with disabilities) are located at our farmhouse, Akkerlust, which is still under renovation. These 4 deluxe hotel rooms are located in the former hayloft at Farmhouse Akkerlust, furnished with all kinds of amenities. Two of these are family hotel rooms, ’t Schaap and 't Paard. Each hotel room has its own bathroom, seating area, dining area, coffee machine, flat-screen TV, flatware, tableware, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a microwave in the hall, which can be used for free. In the former residential portion of the farmhouse, we have installed our apartment for those with disabilities (for 2-3 people). The Old Dutch cow stable from 1890 is completely renovated and stylishly decorated (this building no longer met current animal health standards). Here you will find a self-catering apartment (house) for 2 people and two self-catering apartments for 2-6 people. We can house 20-30 people in total. We also have a charming group space, D`Oude Hooiberg. So, come to us for your next holiday with family/friends. Of course, you cannot smell the cows from inside, but you can certainly come have a look at the milking process, the cows, the calves, the sheep, and the lambs (lambs are only here in March, April, and May). There are go-karts (not motorised) for the children and two ponies. The rooms are all very spacious and luxuriously decorated. All apartments have a dishwasher and free Wi-Fi is available for everyone. There is even a washing machine and dryer!
The current owners, Peter, Coby, and Rick van Boheemen, run this multipurpose farmhouse, Akkerlust, where Peter is of the 5th generation. Rick, from the 6th generation, will eventually take over. Peter was born and raised here and went to the nearby village school, Gerardus Majelle (now Maerten Van Der Velden School), then to LLS in Zoeterwoude Rijndijk, and then to MLS is Gouda. He and his wife will only leave Akkerlust, once Rick has taken over duty.
Coby van Boheemen purchased this farmhouse in 1765
These unique location in the green heart of town, at the edge of various cities, yet completely agrarian, affords the opportunity to run such a multipurpose farm. The core business here is the breeding of the Old Dutch, MRIJ milking cattle, including a steer, who makes his own 'hours' with the cows. We breed as many of our calves as possible and have around 50 breeding sheep, which have their lambs at the end of March. Then it gets quite busy with tourists again, who come to see the beautiful fields of flower bulbs and the births of all the lambs + calves!
Farmhouse Akkerlust is unique, because you are at the edge of several cities, in a wonderfully calm location in the real countryside, and can enjoy the peace, space, and hospitality involved in living at a real working cattle farm. From your hotel rooms and apartment, you will have a gorgeous view of the meadows with cows, sheep, and sometimes horses. You can find a cosy spot 'somewhere' on the farm, out of the wind but in the sun. Maybe you will take part in the birth of one of the 80 cows or 50 sheep! Do you want to head to the theatre, shops, or outdoor cafes? You are just 10 minutes from everything in one of the nearby cities!
Our 4 hotel rooms for 2-4 people and our 4 self-catering apartments for 2-6 people are located in a uniquely peaceful location in the middle of the countryside, at the edge of the Vlietland recreational area, Starrevaart bird sanctuary, and the Leidschendammerhout nature reserve, yet close to large cities like The Hague, Leiden, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Zoetermeer. The beaches at Scheveningen and Wassenaar are just 20 minutes away. Snowworld Zoetermeer, Castle Duivenvoorde, the Vlindertuin, and Drievliet amusement park are all within 5 km of Akkerlust Farmhouse. Treat yourself to a gourmet meal amidst the stunning sluices in Leidschendam. Whether you are eating inside the restaurant or outside by the water, it is all quite wonderful.
