About the property

Best Architecture, windows, and location on the Lake! Private Dock and pets okay

Brannholm is a stunning 1973 Scandinavian modern lodge featuring cedar walls, knotty pine ceilings, and windows along the south and west sides of the home, providing lake views from nearly every room. The home--an architect's masterpiece for his own retirement--has modern, comfortable furnishings, but maintains the fun of the original design by featuring nautical, vintage rustic, and Scandinavian details. At 3200 square feet on .6 acre, the home is double the size of most four bedroom homes in Lincoln City. It doesn't get more "lakefront" than this home! The home's trapezoid shape is built to the waterline, with a 16' seawall and patio extending into the lake. You'll wake to see water all around!

Common Areas

The great room is around 1000 square feet, with an open floorplan centered on a modern rock fireplace. One side has leather reclining seating and a large HD TV with cable, movie channels, Bluray-DVD and Netflix, so you can all watch the game or enjoy the lake view. A Bluetooth speaker allows you to share music together. The upper deck allows you to watch the sunset inside or out. The other side has lakeview dining for the whole family. The dining area flows into a double galley kitchen, featuring a gas cooktop and indoor grill, with space for the whole family to cook together. At the opposite end of the kitchen, you will find a breakfast nook, dry bar, and sunroom with extra space for yoga or morning reflection.

The upstairs 'guest' bedroom is private, and features a king sized bed with a crib available, and a small tv. An extra twin mattress can be made up here (sheets, blankets, pillows provided).

The downstairs 'camp' bedroom features lake views, a queen sized bed, 2 twins on a bunk bed. There is also a full rollaway and full futon can be set up here (all sheets, blankets, pillows provided).

The downstairs master bedroom features lake views and a queen sized bed, loveseat, desk, and small tv. An extra twin mattress can be set up here (all sheets, blankets, pillows provided).

There is also extra sleeping upstairs, the great room daybed is a twin bed (sheets, blankets, pillows provided). You may also catch yourself sleeping in the super-comfy recliners!

To sleep 12 people, 2 people each share the 2 queens and the king bed. The other 6 sleep solo in the twin beds/twin mattresses, daybed, full futon, and full rollaway. Quality linens and Pendleton blankets are provided for all beds.

The kitchen is set up for cooking: toaster, coffeepot, espresso machine, looseleaf teapot, rice cooker, wok, stick blender, regular blender, cookie sheets, pizza pan, muffin pan, cake pans, roaster, casserole, pots, pans, popcorn popper, bread machine, food processor. If you are planning a special meal, we can send an inventory so you know what (if anything) you need to bring.

You'll find the home equipped with coffee, tea, staples, and basic spices. There are also games for all ages, children and adult books. A bluetooth speaker allows you to share your music.

Use the dock and patio for your boat, to fish, or to launch your canoe; a swim ladder makes lake access easy. We provide 2 sit on top kayaks, some fishing gear, and life vests. There is a fenced dog run where your dogs can play, and an upper lawn where you can throw a football, or set up volleyball or croquet. Extra outdoor seating in the dog run, and on our detached upper deck. Secure storage is available in the shop for your bikes or other gear. A public boat launch is less than a mile away. NOTE: some outdoor amenities may be unavailable in the off-season, so ask.

Brannholm is close to the beaches of Lincoln city, on the less populated East Side of the lake. Devils lake is much warmer than the Pacific, and is popular for swimming, canoeing/kayaking/SUP, boating, fishing, waterskiing, wakeboarding and wave running. The lake effect gives us sun even when the beach or the valley is fogged in!

Birds abound here in all seasons. In summer, you'll see hummingbirds, osprey, swallows, egrets, herons, kingfishers, and other water birds. In winter, there are eagles, owls, blackbirds, mergansers, grebes and ducks. Rare visitors may make an appearance, such as pileated woodpecker, or the northern spotted owl.

Immediately uphill from Brannholm is the Siuslaw National Forest, home to all kinds of wildlife, mushrooms and berries. Deer, owls, black bear, cougar, and coyotes may venture down the mountain. Old logging roads there are great for mountain biking or a walk in the woods.

There is private parking here for 4-6 cars in our turnaround and garage. Public transit for Lincoln county is about 2 miles away. There are 2 steps to enter the home, and the main level has all of the common space and the 'guest' bedroom.

About John

We love Oregon! We found an amazing "super 70s" custom home, restored, preserved, designed and curated the interior to create our dream home and share it with others. "Brannholm" is our love letter to the 1970s slow pace with water, sun, fun, and long conversations by the fire--the perfect place to build your memories with family and friends.

John purchased this house in 2013

Why John chose Otis

We selected Devils lake because it has all the benefits of the Oregon Coast with a warmer, sunnier, lakefront space for play. This home is so close to the water, you'll see lake from nearly every room. The great room is so spacious it is hard to capture in pictures. 12 guests can stay without feeling crowded--the whole family can be together, or you can retreat to many different areas.

What makes this house unique

It doesn't get closer to the water! Our home was custom built in 1973, designed to maximize beautiful views of water from nearly every room. We restored the home with an eye to preserving the home's vintage charm and architecture. The dock and lake access allow swimming, paddling, boating, or simply play. Birds abound here, and your dogs can take a dip in the lake or exercise in our large, shady dog run. The kitchen has space for multiple cooks, and the whole family can sit down and eat together. High quality mattresses, linens, and seating are found throughout the home.

Jewel mid-century modern lodge

  • 5 of 5

We were so pleased we found this jewel on Devil's Lake to spend Christmas. This mid-century modern lodge was inviting and comfortable, and so well equipped that even the little things we forgot (like Q-Tips) were provided. It rained hard our first three days, but the gas fireplace made it enjoyable to sit and visit while enjoying the expansive view of the lake. The large supply of games made for many enjoyable hours, although I must say that the dining area lighting was very in-adequate for playing cards and the stairway is poorly lit. On the up side, the mattresses were so comfortable we all wanted to buy new ones for home. The five adults in our family all agreed it was the best experience ever.

Lakeside retreat

  • 4 of 5

We really loved this beautiful and well furnished house....we can't wait to come back in the summer when we could really get into the lake and use the kayaks. It accommodates a large group really well. I loved watching the changes in the lake with all those open window views.

Great view!

  • 4 of 5

The size of the house is great. The view is amazing! Very relaxing. Only bad part of this trip is that I could not deal with the smell. Again, I am very sensitive to it and could not get over the smell. And I love animals. It is just the combo of an older house and I am assuming dogs going in the lake and then inside.

For that reason I would not come back. My husband and 3 other people could smell it but were not bother by it. They enjoyed fishing and kayaking. My one year old was in love with the view and water:).

A Masterpiece!

  • 5 of 5

I really don't know where to begin with this review but PERFECTION comes to mind! From the moment you walked in you felt that great care had been taken to ensure that your stay would be fantastic. I am not lying when I say it was a MASTERPIECE of 70's architecture and design. I don't know if they meant it to be or not but even the appliances were... shall I dare say it, vintage but worked like a charm. Everything was labeled and a kitchen map helped you through the large very well equipped kitchen. The front living space was a wall of windows which looked out over the lake - breathtaking! The bedrooms had Pendleton blankets and a entertainment closet which held books and games for every taste! Pets? No problem! Although there wasn't a large yard there was a dog run that was really lovely and large for your pets. Also available were pet towels, toys and even dog food for your pet! WOW! The outside was just as lovely with chairs and even kayaks for use.

Unfortunately my husband ended up in the hospital the day after we arrived so we were unable to enjoy this truly unique gem but hope to come back to enjoy to fullest potential. Side note ... there was a filmed being filmed next door and people could not have been nicer or entertaining. We all enjoyed watching "Fading Flowers" being filmed :)

Thank you for allowing us to use this beautiful cabin on Devil's Lake!

Beautiful vacation, great location

  • 4 of 5

The house is big and very kid friendly! The lake is amazing and we spent every day kayaking or taking a short trip to the ocean. Kids has a great time catching little fish...wonderful memories! The downstairs bathroom has a little water leak problem and had a tinge of mildew smell. The carpet to the bedroom from the bathroom was always wet. The dishwasher upstairs leaks so we had to keep a towel under it every time we ran it. Otherwise, we enjoyed the house and the fantastic location!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much Nicole! I appreciate your constructive feedback as well. There is a special button that drains the dishwasher if there is a food clog, I'll try to better explain that to guests.
