L'ARIETE stands for peace, space and relaxation. The property in the heart of Renaissance Italy consists of 2 residential buildings and offers 6 independent spacious suites with 1 or 2 bedrooms (45-80 m² each) and fully equipped kitchens plus a private restaurant. L´Ariete is set amongst 20 acres of private land including a vineyard, with uninterrupted views towards Montone, elected one of Italy´s most beautiful medieval hamlets.
Elegant rooms invite you to enjoy a bottle of fine 'Grechetto' and read the book you planned to read for so long. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the 100 m² pool, browse through the library, or just find yourself a quiet place among the trees, smell the scent of lavender, watch our sheep peacefully resting in the shade of the orchard, listen to the birds and have a nap in one of the hammocks or deck chairs. A vegetable garden is available for our guests, a small grocery shop offers selected regional and home-made products, the restaurant is exclusively open to our guests for a typical Umbrian dinner. Belle vacanze!

Two Austrians - plus a Hungarian shepherd dog - with a love for Italy - Martina, an artist and arts historian who studied and worked in Perugia at the Academy of Arts; Andreas - ecologist and ambitious organic farmer. We aim to provide our guests with a perfect environment for a relaxed and truly unforgettable vacation.
Andreas Sax purchased this apartment in 2010
Our countryhouse offers exactly what we were looking for - in the middle of nature, undisturbed, but not secluded, and close enough to vibrant cities and all the amenities of modern life which you sometimes need - even if you love to live in the countryside.
We have our special style - we value the old and love the modern, we believe in purity and simplicity, but make no concessions to quality - and that´s how we run our restaurant, furnish our apartments, create our gardens and design our pieces of inspirations - works of art you will find all over the property.
Thank you both for a wonderful stay. It was the perfect combination of relaxation, exercise and culture - we left feeling recharged and excited about life which is the most that can be asked from a holiday!
We had a wonderful holiday here. Andreas and Martina are wonderful hosts. Our apartment was fantastically simple and chic - everything we needed and nothing we didn't - importantly it was lovely and cool as it is an old building. We took a device so the kids could watch a movie in the evening (there is no TV - there is free, good speed WiFi though), but this was all the nicer - no modern distractions, just lots of games and card playing.
The pool is a really good size and temperature. What made it was the space around the pool - enough for football or hide and seek, and the fact you weren't sharing with loads of other people. No towels on sunbeds at dawn. Just enough other families to find a friend for a chat or the kids for a play...
Martina's cooking is fantastic. We ate in the restaurant (or rather outside with the beautiful views of the valley as a back drop) a few times. Sheep were nibbling the grass below us and the scent of the rosemary and lavender intermingled with the Umbrian cooking, which was accompanied by several elderflower & prosecco cocktails! - How good can life get!
We'll be back!

We came to know L’Ariete through the many positive reviews found on various travel websites, but it was our weeklong stay that confirmed such reviews.
Before we detail our own experience, we want to call out that we’re nearly 4 months over due in writing this review. The point being that we intended to gush about this lovely Umbrian getaway and its awesome hosts upon return to the U.S., but life’s responsibilities took over and we’re only now putting our experience into words.
It’s difficult to add anything new and meaningful without being repetitious. Yes, the grounds are pretty, the rooms are clean, tastefully appointed, and all appliances and more were in fine working order. A walk, well, more like a hike, to the town of Montone can be accomplished in 25 minutes. The reward? An exquisite lunch outdoors (Erba Luna), yet another fine scoop of gelato or shot of espresso, or the simple medieval charm of the town itself. Take your pick.
Then there’s Laci, the owner’s big fluffy dog, who adds to L’Ariete’s rustic charm. He’s quite friendly, but not overly so, just like his human companions. If you like dogs, he’s certainly easy to like.
As for dinner, we were perhaps among the more dedicated customers of Martina’s candlelight dinners. Our lunches were typically had in Umbrian towns during our day trips across the region, but all but one dinner (due to an overnight trip) was enjoyed at L’Ariete’s outdoor tables. Not only was the quality on par with better restaurants, but we had the added comfort of not having to drive home after enjoying wine with our meal. The dinners followed the traditional format: antipasti, primi, secondi e dolci. We found the quantity more than sufficient and often split some of the courses between the two of us. Our typical dinner: due antipasti, un primo, due secondi, un dolce - perfectly enough for people of our modest size.
We certainly liked our hosts, Andreas and Martina, and hope they will continue to successfully run L’Ariete for the enjoyment of many more. Cheers, y’all, and Happy New Year!

Great accomodation, beautiful location in a truly wonderful part of Italy! The house is perfectly located, you can reach many hot spots like Assisi, Perugia, Arezzo, but also the lovely little village Montone nearby. The home is very very clean and welcoming. Martina and Andreas are superb hosts, extremely kind and helpful. They gave us great tips and even booked e very interesting truffle hunting tour for us. Thank you Martina for the beautiful meals! Best meals we had in our stay in Italy! We can't emphasise enough how great our stay was! We highly recommend this place for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday in the heart of beautiful Italy!
Lariete is a beautiful countryhouse in a tranquil corner of Italy, yet within easy reach of some of the Renaissance places we wanted to visit such as Urbino in The Marche, Arezzo in Tuscany or the lesser known Umbrian cities Perugia, Gubio or Orvieto. The property has an extra-ordinary position - overlooking the valley, with the medieval village Montone looking down on you. Comunication prior to our arrival with the Austrian owners was very professional, both speak fluent English and a couple of other languages as well, and they remained just as helpful and welcoming all week long - a rare level of hospitality we had never experienced before when travelling. We had an apartment booked with own kitchen - very well equipped, and we prepared some lovely meals; however, we also had dinner twice in the restaurant, where Martina, the Austrian manager with Italian roots, prepares fixed 3 course meals each evening. She uses mainly organic products from regional farmers, she has a huge garden with fresh herbs and vegetables, and the food was extra-ordinary good - no gourmet kitchen, but fresh, local dishes such as the wild asparagus which arrived handpicked by the owners on our plates - delicious! So, we really enjoyed our stay at Lariete, and will definitely come back in summer to relax for a couple of days at the pool, which is huge and has a wonderful position with views of the village above. At the moment the place is still an insiders tipp, 2012 was just their second season, so we recommend to go there soon before they become really popular. All the best to you, Martina and Andreas, and see you soon again!
