About Shona Lines
I live in Edinburgh, but I spend as much time as I can in Marrakech, where I have been holidaying for over 30 years..
Shona Lines purchased this House in 2010
Why Shona Lines chose Medina
Riad Shaden is my second Moroccan riad. I bought it in 2010, after looking at many properties in the medina. I loved it on first sight and hope that you will too. It is in a traditional area of the medina where local people go about their daily lives, but it is only a short walk from Djemaa al Fna, the souks and all the tourist attractions.
What makes this House unique
Riad Shaden is my second home, I love the building and the location. The rooms are all different but decorated in traditional Moroccan style, and I never tire of sitting on the roof terrace in the evening listening to the call to prayer and watching the storks flying overhead back to their nests.

The Ultimate Moroccan Experience
My friends and I celebrate our milestone and birthdays at various locations around the world. We usually stay at all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, South America, And Mexico. However, for my 50th Birthday, I choose Morocco. Upon doing my research I saw that Morocco had a few all inclusive resorts. However, my friend said we needed to have a true “Moroccan Experience “. So, I choose RIAD Shaden.. Shona, the property owner quickly answer any questions I had about the property and she actually was present on our first day. Upon our arrival, we had a few hiccups with our flights. And, I kept Shona in the loop. Shona has provided transportation for 9 people from the Airport to the RIAD. The drivers were courteous and punctual. Upon arrival to the RIAD we were greeted by Said. Words cannot describe Said. Said was the world’s greatest host. He was accommodating, resourceful, and comforting. His wife conducted the cooking class and the food was amazing. If you want a true Moroccan Experience in a safe and comfortable environment Stay at RIAD Shaden and insist that Said is your Host.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again at Riad Shaden
We rented out the whole Riad for our 2 families. We were 4 adults and 6 people. Mohammad was the best hosts, he made us feel safe, took care of our every need, and had a smile on his face all of the time! He arranged everything for us, all tours, guides, and meals if we wanted. Our fabulous stay in Marrakech was all due to Mohammad!!! We would definitely come back!!! Thank you for such hospitality!!!
A wonderful visit
We very much enjoyed our time at Riad Shaden. The staff was pleasant, helpful and worked very hard to make sure their guests visits were good ones. The location in the heart of the Medina gave us a real-world look at the life in the Old City. It was a wonderful three days.
Oasis in the Medina
We just returned from a truly wonderful week in Marrakech. Our family rented Riad Shaden for a week's vacation. We traveled to Marrakech to meet my daughter's new in laws and celebrate their recent marriage. The Riad is spotless and beautifully decorated. Mohammad the House Manager was always available but unobtrusive. Such a kind and helpful man. We felt comfortable, safe and secure. The weather was perfect, cold at night ( January)but each bedroom had heat. In the mornings we bundled up in the courtyard for our delicious breakfast of Moroccan bread,"pancakes" , fruit and yogurt. We were quickly warmed up with a gas heater. My husband spent time on the rooftop some days soaking up the warm sun and reading while we hit the souks! We gathered up there in late afternoon for a little happy hour and laugh about our day. I chose this Riad as some in our group are not up to walking as much as others. It's in what I imagine is a working class area of the Medina with easy access to Bab Aylan gate where we exited and took cabs to the other side of the medina. For example to the Koutoubia Mosque area and Jemaa el Fnaa and restaurants in Gueliz. We recommend this peaceful Riad for your stay in the whirlwind adventure that you will experience in Marrakech.
Nice, Quiet Riad in the Heart of Marrakech
I stayed here with a friend of mine for five nights, and had a great stay. All of the staff were extremely friendly and polite, the included breakfasts were great, and the riad itself was very quiet and tranquil. The location is great, about a 10-15 minute from the main square. We arranged shuttles to and from the airport, which worked out perfectly. We also booked a camel ride through them, which was great as well. Overall, my friend and I both had a great time staying there, and I would definitely stay at Riad Shaden again next time I'm in Marrakech.
Thanks for taking the time to write a review. Glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and hope to see you again
Riad Shaden is situated in a traditional district of the medina, away from the hustle and bustle, but with easy access to the famous Place Djemaa al Fna, the souks, cafes and restaurants. Within easy reach of all the major tourist attractions, including the Majorelle Gardens, Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Medersa and the Museum of Marrakech. Enjoy a trip round the city walls in a horse drawn caleche, visit a traditional hammam, or simply wander round the narrow maze of streets, shopping in the souks. By day the Place Djemaa al Fna is occupied by snake charmers, and at night it comes alive, with food stalls, entertainers, acrobats and much more.
Why not let us help to organise your stay? We can do all the hard work for you, by organising:
- day trips and overnight excursions
- camel riding, quad biking etc
- cookery lessons
- hammam and spa treatments
- restaurant bookings
- in house celebration dinners and parties
