I'm born and raised in New Orleans. I currently work in New Orleans but live on the North Shore of New Orleans. My family (three children) grew up in this house until Katrina took it away. 8 years later, the kids are all in college, we live in another house but have just finished bringing this one back. We can't forget the wonderful memories, the great times or the tremendous ambiance of this place. So we use it when we can. But you can use it when we can't!! Don't miss out on the Bayou Moon from the rear porch. It is truly special..
Suzy purchased this Cottage in 1998
Why Suzy chose Slidell
We bought it because it was on the navigable bayou (5 mins to Lake Pontchartrain by boat), we could water ski, boat, fish, crab or just enjoy the awesome wildlife and nature that the bayou affords. We bought it because of the 8 acres (which we cleared and now manicure), and the 30 plus oak trees with Spanish moss, some of which are over 200 years old. We've played many football, soccer, and baseball games in the large fields. Drive a golf ball or fly a kite! We named it Bayou Moon, because for all its splendor, at the end of the day when you sit on the back porch and look up - you see this awesome moon reflecting on the bayou! This area is a historic Creole settlement that dates back into the 1700's. So after we bought it, we got to know our wonderful neighbors, many of whom are ancestors of the original settlers. FYI before we could rebuild this house after Katrina, it needed to be raised and we just completed this 'raise and renovate' six months ago.
What makes this Cottage unique
There are so many unique features of Bayou Moon. The nature, the wildlife, the expanse of the acreage, the oak trees, the privacy, the water frontage, the water sports, the fishing and crabbing, the boat dock, the swimming pool, the house with its incredible views, the porches and decks, the gameroom but most of all the Bayou Moon!

Great stay on the Bayou for a long weekend visiting New Orleans and attending the LSU game.
we had a great time we hope Susiel will still be renting her beautiful home she was fantastic and loved everthing.
Beautiful peaceful property, pool not as pictured
We enjoyed our vacation with friends at Bayou moon (4 adults, 5 kids). The views were gorgeous and the private property peaceful. 4 stars due to some unmet expectations regarding amenities and some communication issues with property manager. We VRBO at least once a year for many years and this is our first relatively critical review
Pros: peaceful, beautiful property, nice home, big deep pool that was fun to swim in for our group of 4 adults and 5 kids, property manager gave compensatory partial refund due to issues with pool/spa (listed below)
Lacks a sense of welcome (late getting entry code in order to check-in. Property manager forwards phone calls, so be ready to text when she gets back with you. She will eventually address your concerns but don’t expect that nice feeling of customer service with a smile)
Absolutely no instructions regarding anything (other VRBOs typically have some type of welcome information orienting you to the home, amenities, surrounding area, etc... before we realized the spa was not functioning, we asked how to work it and were simply told that “the remote for the pool is in the house”... as stated, spa never worked and additional details below)
Furnished as pictured but understand it is sparsely furnished and not conducive for lounging in larger groups (one couch in primary living space and random arm chairs elsewhere, so be ready to hang out in the kitchen)
Pool and spa is not as pictured/advertised (no diving board, slide was broken when we arrived and removed during our stay, spa jets and poolside controls do not work, Polaris pool cleaner did not work and was replaced after complaint of pool becoming cloudy/dirty during our stay, pool walls dirty and need scrubbing, pool area deck needs TLC)
Pictured pinball machines don’t work
1 of 2 TVs did not work (not vacationing to watch TV but would’ve helped having both working during downtimes... especially with 5 kids)
2+ weeks to get our deposit back (still not in our account but recently received an email stating it is being processed)
Beauty on the Bayou
Bayou Moon was the perfect setting for our family. Suzy was just a text away, and was helpful for any questions. We enjoyed the spacious and well appointed home. The pool was a savior for us all with the Louisiana summer heat; especially our grandchildren. The well manicured grounds are the home of some gorgeous oaks and the open grounds are perfect for throwing frisbee, flying kites, etc. The boat slip was a bonus, as we brought our sportcruiser across the lake and took numerous trips along Bayou Bonfouca. All in all, our Fourth of July was a very memorable get together and Bayou Moon was the perfect getaway...
The house itself was clean and the grounds and trees were beautiful. We were there for a family get away with 4 families sharing the house. It was spacious, the a/c worked well to keep the common areas cool, and we were never in need of hot water. But there were a few disappointments. Some of the amenities were not as described. The pool had mold growing on the sides. The slide is broken and the boat slip is too choked with plants to get your boat in it. The BBQ pit was full of ashes and a leg was broken. One bed was just a mattress and box spring on the floor. One pinball game in the game room required money to play and the other pinball machine was broken. There were areas of rotten wood on the porches. Although this property was clean it is not well maintained. The owner was easy to work with.
End of the school year Getaway
This is the 2nd time that we rent this house and we would definitely do it again. Very roomy and clean. The house is right out of the city limits but on such a large yard that you feel as if you are far away.
