Villa Laba Puseh is everything you could want in a holiday vacation home! The name, which means 'Land of Vishnu, The Preserver', is located on Temple Land in the quiet village of Penestanan, on the outskirts of Ubud, the cultural hub of Bali. This location is ideal, as you can enjoy both easy access to Ubud, (20 minute walk or $3 taxi ride) but return to your peaceful and quiet villa after your excursions.
Built with your enjoyment in mind, Laba Puseh was designed by blending the artistic talents that the Balinese are known for with the natural beauty of the outdoors. The villa is a visual feast for your eyes, as Balinese architectural details have been used throughout the entire property. These details include hand-carved wooden and stone window surrounds, gorgeous hand matted bamboo ceilings, and a coy pond you walk over to reach your front door. More than 1,000 man hours of stone-carved features are artfully placed throughout the property. At night the villa, garden and pool are beautifully lit for your continued pleasure.
The villa features two bedrooms with Balinese design four poster beds and furniture. Both bedrooms are fully air conditioned, but you may choose to enjoy the cooling natural breezes and overhead fans-the choice is yours. Each bedroom has its own bath, both showcasing beautiful, stone showers set in decorative, outdoor gardens.
In addition to being adorned with beautiful Balinese hand-carved furniture, the living room area also features a fully-equipped entertainment center for your enjoyment. Included for your entertainment pleasure are a flat screen TV with USB music port, Indovision cable TV providing international programming, a DVD player with an array of both children and adult DVD selections, and an IPOD dock. There is also a small library with books about various aspects of Balinese culture.
The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware and appliances, should you wish to prepare some of your own snacks or meals. The dining room features a marbled topped table, although you may choose to sit at the bar, which is adorned with hand-carved, stone features. A full breakfast is served every morning and daily maid service is also provided.
The true artistic feature of the property is the swimming pool which features an amazing hand-carved sandstone surround. Water gently trickles down the wall underneath this feature and is complimented by water spouting from a replica of a temple fountain head. Next to the pool is an outdoor shower where you can rinse off. Hand woven sun beds and colorful towels complete your pool experience.
Bali is known as the Island of the Gods, so it is important to me to both respect and participate in the local spiritual customs. My family Temple and Kemara are located on the property and daily offerings with beautiful hand made baskets, flowers and incense are performed throughout the property.
Centrally located in the village of Penestanan, Laba Puseh is set back from the main road and is surrounded by rice fields. It is a five minute walk to a variety of restaurants including organic eateries and juice bars, coffee bars and bakeries, and the wonderful local Balinese warungs of which Ibu Putu's is the most famous. For more upscale dining, Bridges Restaurant is just a few minutes away. There are also a plethora of restaurants to explore in Ubud.
Your vacation villa has access to many other activities which you may find enjoyable. Laba Puseh is directly adjacent to Eve Spa, a full treatment spa center, where you can enjoy a relaxing massage, body scrub, flower petal bath, or a selection of half or full day combination packages. A variety of yoga studios and meditation centers are just a short stroll from your front door. Both the Ubud Market and the well-known Monkey Forest Road can be easily accessed after a short taxi ride or a leisurely walk through town.
Your villa manager, Ketut Puja, is available for airport transportation and can also take you on a variety of trips including Temple and village tours. Most of the villages in the Ubud area specialize in their own handicrafts, and you can find anything from wood and stone carvings, to paintings to silver jewelry, just to name a few.
Bali offers a wide variety of activities to choose from, including scuba diving ship wrecks, elephant riding in the jungle, hiking through rice fields, or strolling through museums and art galleries. Be as active as you want or just relax by the beautiful pool and read a book....your Balinese adventure awaits you!
(NOTE: If you are already in Bali, contact the Villa Manager, Ketut Puja, at telephone# 08123925944 or 0361-976146 for direct booking. If interested, inquire about reduced rates without daily breakfast and only twice weekly maid service.)
I live on the island of Antigua in the Eastern Caribbean and have been involved in tourism my entire life. After visiting Bali in 2012, I fell in love with the lush and gorgeous scenery on the Island of the Gods, but even more so with the gracious people and their customs and spiritual traditions. With my first visit to Bali, I felt in my heart that I had 'come home' and had found my place in the world where I could experience peace, tranquility and spirituality.
Cheri Benjamin purchased this villa in 2013
I chose Penestanan because of its tranquility, friendly people and small town atmosphere. Even though Penestanan is actually a separate village to Ubud, the proximity of the two villages does not impede access to the Ubud Market or Monkey Forest Road. Both are easy to get to, and my favorite part of going into busy Ubud for shopping and dining is returning to peaceful Penestanan and the quietness of my villa.
My villa is directly adjacent to Eve Spa, which is a favorite of mine for massages and other spa services. There are many great places to eat within a few minutes' walk of the front door, plus many of these restaurants will also deliver. Yoga and meditation classes at Intuitive Flow yoga studio are only a five minute walk from the villa.
My dear Balinese friend, Ketut Puja, spent the last year building Villa Laba Puseh for me in the quiet village of Penestanan on Temple Land. I love Balinese architecture and artistry, and Ketut made sure that it was incorporated into every aspect of this villa. Everywhere you look, you see some building aspect that was designed and built artistically including hand carved wooden window surrounds and kitchen cabinet doors, or intricate, artistic air flows built into the walls.
Four different types of beautiful building stones were used in the construction process of my home. Three types of stone are from Bali, while the other was imported from Java. More than 1,000 man hours went into creating the stone-carved details that surround my villa. My favorite feature is more than four feet high and three feet wide. I can just stand and look at the stone work in amazement, marveling at the intricate hand-carved details designed by the skilled artisans who helped build my home. Everywhere you turn in Labah Puseh you see beauty.
Another fabulous feature of the villa is the pool, which features a beautiful, hand-carved sandstone surround, water gently cascading down a wall beneath it and water spouting from a replica of a temple fountain head.
Ketut, my friend and architect extraordinaire, also manages the villa for me. He is available for any type of day trip you could imagine or can take you on a chartered fishing trip!
We loved our stay at this villa. The accommodations were perfect for two couples. The location was fantastic as well, which allowed us to walk into Ubud, to the Campuhan Ridge Walk, to many restaurants nearby, etc. Made's breakfasts were delicious, and Juli was a reliable driver who took us to the places we needed to go (outside of our walking distance). We also enjoyed Eve Spa next door. It was a relaxing way to spend our afternoon after returning from the Mount Batur Sunrise Climb.
This home had a great location, close to the heart of Ubud but tucked away enough to not be in the bustle of the city.
Made really made this a nice experience and we appreciated her cooking and cleaning and helping with little local details.
Cheri helped with questions and arranged a ride from the airport.
We never saw or heard from Ketut due to personal events and by the time he was back in town we had found arrangements for events, rides, etc.
There are many great restaurants within walking distance and it's easy to get to town.
And was nice to theoretically have a personal pool to enjoy.
A few negatives we had were, the pictures on the website are probably when the home was built so the pool and lawn had some wear.
There was also a few days we heard loud drums banging for an hour or so. Made seemed to think it was a yoga studio maybe having some class or something.
Also the pool turned "pond water green" for 2+ out of the 7 days we were there. That was disappointing because it happened on days we planned to stay in and relax and the pool gu couldn't fix it.
Also one of the rooms air con seemed to not be as cold as the other. Which made it a little hard to sleep at night.
Due to these few hiccups we give it 3 stars. If the pool problem wouldn't have happened we would probably give it more.
The villa is just lovely. Exactly as described. Ketut and Made are lovely hosts and dealt with our requests in a timely and attentive manner. The villa is in a good spot close to restaurants, although the road is getting busier and busier - it can be quite intense at times. However, the villa is just lovely - quiet, so private and relaxing. The outdoor shower - ahhhhh! It had everything we needed. We were a family of four (3 years and 8 years) and the only thing I would say is that the villa needs one more comfy chair. I wish we were still there....
What a lovely property!
We loved your home and your pool! The location was perfect. We were able to enjoy the hustle and fun of Ubud and then return to the tranquil setting of Villa Laba Puseh. Ketut and Made attended to all our needs and even made their family available to us when they were unavailable. We will both come back!

Flawless experience in Ubud from start to finish at Cheri's villa. Cheri was easy to contact, friendly and helpful. Her staff are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. The villa itself is awesome, very easy to relax there and has all the amenities you would expect. Restaurants and markets are very close and central Ubud is about a 10 minute walk away. Highly recommend opting for Made's daily breakfasts, nothing like a plate of homemade noodles after a quick dip in the pool. Also recommend doing the tour with Ketut, which he can customize to whatever you want to see. Don't miss Mt. Batur, an amazing site you'd never expect to see in Bali. Also recommend taking a day trip to Virgin Beach, perfect water and some fun snorkeling. Can't recommend the Villa enough, isolated enough to be quiet and relaxing but close enough to see the sites and sounds of Ubud.
We were very excited about our trip to Bali, and expected it to be great, but it was beyond words. The owner, Cheri, was a big part of my decision to go. Our communications were prompt, helpful, personal, and sincere. The man that picked us up at the airport, Ketut, was the best. He took us many places. He taught us about culture, and made our trip what it was. His wife Made came each morning and started our day with a smile and beautiful breakfast. The villa, was beautiful, and perfectly located. Ketut and Made were there to help us with anything we needed or wanted. Our experience in Bali was a trip of a lifetime. I recommend the area of Ubed to anyone going. There are many places to rent there, but nothing to compare to having these people help you with your stay.
Located in the quiet village of Penestanan, on the outskirts of Ubud. Adjacent to Eve Spa, nearby organic restaurants and juice bars, yoga and meditation. Personal guided sightseeing, shopping and temple tours available on site.
