Why Bob Hofmann chose Captain Cook
Hawaii is wonderful place to visit and a top vacation destination. The Big Island is, we think, the best of all the islands. The volcano is spectacular, we have two mountains soaring to almost 14,000 feet, it offers world class sport fishing, beautiful beaches, a rich history, the best snorkeling and most of all for our location, a grand place to just go relax and get away from the hubbub of life.
What makes this House unique
Beautiful Big Island surroundings that offer a peaceful and quiet vacation getaway! A perfect place for a romantic Hawaiian escape or a private family coastal retreat.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It had everything we needed.
We liked this house
We have stayed at a number of VRBO houses in Hawaii over the years and we liked this one. We don’t like staying right in Kailua-Kona, but we like to be close enough to go into town, so this house was perfect for location. The house itself was well stocked with all the amenities we would need for our stay, including a kitchen that was equipped well enough for cooking. The property has a lot of trees and plants that surround the house making the house more private that any other house we have rented, and comes with a wonderful lania that has a view of the ocean and trees instead of the roof tops of neighboring houses.
Another Great Stay
Our second time at this property. Like last year, we had another great stay. The furniture in one of the living areas had been replaced with new pieces, and the view off the Lanai was just as beautiful as we’d remembered from last year.
Excellent place for a family of five
A great place for a family.
Spacious, well loved house, many bathrooms, large lanai with an ocean view, geckos always ready to entertain.
Coqui noise is minimal, and there are only a few roosters around.
Lush garden gives you plenty of privacy, and the car port lets you keep your car cool.
Well stocked kitchen and washer/dryer, many small things can be found in the drawers when needed.
1,000 feet elevation lowers the temperature to a reasonable level, compared to Kailua-Kona. We would leave Kailua Costco at 90-92F, and arrive home at 80-82F.
We really felt at leisure when at the house, and we'll check the place out again next time we come to the island.
Kona Coast in Hawaii
This place is located very close to some really cool beaches with great snorkeling. If you are doing activities in town, it's about a 30 minute drive up the coast. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area and the kitchen is well stocked if you want to stay in and cook. Pick up your groceries in town before you make the drive. The view is awesome. The only thing that could make this place better would be an air conditioner. It was fine without one, but it was humid while we visited and there was no way out of the humidity.
Some of the top beaches, best snorkeling, and most beautiful ocean views. Enjoy all of the diversity that the Big Island has to offer from crystal clear underwater adventure to lava filled volcanoes. The Captain Cook area boasts a number of areas to experience the natural allure of the Big Island. Visit Ka Lae, the southernmost point in the 50 states! Other nearby must-see areas are:
