About this property

THE SNUG studio 56th and Park

Cozy and intimate, this gemutlich studio in the iconic Lombardy Hotel is dubbed THE SNUG for its historical Edwardian /Arts & Crafts ambience and efficient use of a small "snug" space. Stained glass, oak paneling, wool rugs, antique furniture and period decor combine for the ideal pied a terre for a single or couple. Business traveler-friendly! King bed, original white-tiled full bath, kitchenette niche, twice daily housekeeping, and gym, make this the perfect sanctuary for your stay in NYC.

Welcome to THE SNUG studio of the Lombardy Hotel!
William Randolph Hurst, the great media mogul and inspiration for "Citizen Kane" built the gorgeous Lombardy Hotel as a Deco limestone fortress for his mistress, silent film star Marion Davies (the inspiration for "Rosebud"). The Lombardy has been the New York residence of film stars like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton and almost a century later still feels like a grand New York apartment house.

The apartments of the Lombardy are individually owned and decorated co-ops, and this intimate 250s.f. studio, affectionately dubbed THE SNUG, is a historical Midtown gem, the perfect quiet hideaway for your rest, relaxation, and enjoyment.

Be very clear: this is a unique old-style hotel room in a 4-star historic hotel with daily housekeeping and many amenities, but it is a small 250s.f. studio with the owner's unique and inviting decor. The space includes the 9 x 17 bedroom with king bed, an en suite original bathroom (classic Deco style white tile with deep bathtub), 4' clothing closet, and 3' kitchenette niche (featuring undercounter refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and electric kettle).

THE SNUG's period decor and and original fixtures transport you back in time to a New York hotel room from The Great Gatsby or Rules of Civility. It is small, yes, (the king bed fills half the room and doesn't leave much extra space, so absolutely no more than two people are allowed!) but as it is in the back of the building --on 56th Street facing north-- it is insulated from traffic, sirens, and street noise, a much quieter option than rooms that face south overlooking the street. It is extremely rare that you would hear a siren or any construction noise.

While the tall oak wainscoting, oriental rugs, brocade drapes, and stained glass are unique to this room, even people with a taste for the modern can appreciate its ergonomic features: a drop-front Edwardian desk offers laptop surface and cabinet storage so you can unpack your clothes and/or store your suitcase in the closet (or underneath the secretary), the wall-mounted 52" flat-screen TV makes viewing from bed a breeze, and the seating area with two mohair Deco chairs features a coffee table that raises to dining-table height for enjoying your take-out meals and coffee.

Your 48" window faces north and allows ample filtered light, but is not subject to bright direct sunshine--terrific for sleeping in! The Snug is on the 2nd floor, and outside the window is a wide brick terrace (NOT accessible) with it's oxidized copper roofing detail. No view to speak of, but the insulation from noise is the pay-off.

This is your own hotel room in the Lombardy. You have access to all hotel amenities, including 24-hour front desk concierge service, twice daily housekeeping, bell-hop and doorman, lobby waiting area, work-out room/gym facilities, on-site hair salon and seamstress, and on-site coffee house (Ninth Street Espresso) and the world-class American Cut steakhouse.

Once in your room, you have your own private bathroom (with blowdryer, shampoo, etc.) , 9 x 17 bedroom with king bed, desk, and seating area, clothing closet (with full length mirror, hangers, ironing board and iron), and kitchenette closet (refrigerator, microwave, kettle, coffeemaker). If you need anything else, just check with the front desk.

VALET Parking is available for additional $38 a day; just pull up and leave your car with the doorman and see the front desk to arrange payment.

Definitely Snug, old style, comfortable
It is a small room, but it has plenty of character and is well located with Central Park and two subway stations within 3 blocks.

Perfect location at a reasonable price.
If you can book this property, do it. So close to Park and 5th avenues! Comfortable, clean, but be aware it is small. For the location the price is very reasonable.

This was my first time ever staying at an Infested Property. I saved for 4 years to go on this trip
The place was as pictured in the ad. I unpacked the evening of my arrival & settled in. The Friday morning I awoke went to the bathroom turned on the lights to find cockroach crawling on my arm which I squished and flushed down the toilet. I had a 4 day New York Pass I purchased before my trip and had hoped to be able to see all the sites I planned to see. It cost me about $355 CAD. I contacted the Owner who wanted a picture of a cockroach, which move very fast if you have ever seen them before. Across from the bathroom is a small closet kitchen which contained food which seemed to be left over from previous guests and the fridge had expired condiments in it. Another morning I went in the bathroom to see a cockroach running across the sink. My phone was turned off and being charged, so I grabbed some Kleenex and squished this one. I then took a photo of it and sent it to the property Owner, as she wanted more than my email about what I saw. I was late on Saturday for a tour that occurs only 2 times a week on Saturdays and Thursdays ( I left on the Weds), which I was really looking forward to. I ended up losing out on $105. on my NYC pass. I read an email as I was standing in a long line for the 9/11 museum, & memorial. The owner offered to send maintenance & possibly exterminate, but she did not offer to accommodate me somewhere else during or after. I worked at a place in the past and ended up going to the emergency room after it had been sprayed, so I let her know I would like a can of raid and her response was she would see what she could do. So, I bought some raid as this was not guaranteed from her response. When I returned to the room there was a can of raid on the table. I asked for some reimbursement from the owner for the stress, extra running around, time, etc. because of the cockroaches. I was not expecting a complete refund, but a couple of days worth would have been acceptable. She did not acknowledge this, in my email. When I let her know I would be honest about my stay in my review she responded that I am someone who expects everything to be perfect? She also complained of having to have a can of raid delivered that cost her money. She also let me know that she is an attorney. I was concerned about bringing cockroaches home with me. So the evening before I left I had to return the can of Raid I bought, carefully pack, and prepare for leaving early Weds. I purchased more Raid when I got home too.

Why they chose this property

The Lombardy Hotel is one of only four historical New York City hotels where units are owned by individuals and offered in a rental pool for others to enjoy; because we are a HOTEL, this is not an "illegal" short-term rental under NY State law. Though this tiny studio room is too small for the hotel's standards to be offered through the Lombardy rental pool, I'm able to offer it to guests here with all the same hotel amenities. Enjoy a stay at the Lombardy for a fraction of the normal price, but be sure the warm Edwardian decor fits your own style since this hotel room is truly a unique reflection of ME!

What makes this property unique

Hotel amenities include doorman, concierge service and front-desk check-in, bellhop for luggage, luggage storage, work-out gym, in-house hairdresser and seamstress, American Cut Steakhouse restaurant, 9th Street Espresso coffee bar, twice daily housekeeping, hotel security and fire safety, elevator, toiletries, ironing board, hairdryer, etc. It's all about location, location, location!
