About the property

Hattie's is in a residential, historic neighborhood, one block from State Street

Spend some quality time in a quaint and quiet historic neighborhood in Black Mountain, North Carolina - The 'Little Town That Rocks". Only a quick, three minute walk to our "main" street, State Street, in downtown Black Mountain. Come and explore the sweet shops, nice restaurants, and fun bars....notice the rocking chairs along the way, in our cozy town that is called "The Front Porch of Western North Carolina."

Hattie's is located behind our home, though you have absolute and complete privacy. Most times, you will not even know if we are home. This cottage has a separate bedroom and separate bathroom with full tub/shower from the main living area of living room and kitchen. A full kitchen -- fully equipped with complete set of dishes, glasses, utensils, appliances including dishwasher, full range/oven, full refrigerator, and microwave. You will find everything you need for cooking; pots/pans, serving dishes, storage containers, cooking utensils....this kitchen is very well supplied for cooking meals. Gas "wood stove"fireplace, hardwood flooring with rugs, lovely covered porch off the bedroom overlooking "secret garden" backyard oasis with chairs and table.

Enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktail overlooking our "backyard heaven" from the covered porch with a pond feature and small water fall....if you decide to sit by the pond, become completely relaxed as you watch the gold fish swim around the beautiful water plants. The sound of birds and the gentle breeze blowing through the trees will calm you and one can't believe we are so close to town. Listen to the windchimes and watch hummingbirds buzzing around, birds bathing in the upper pond, and squirrels running around the trees.

On a cool evening, enjoy another amenity in the backyard; sit by a fire in the outside fireplace (no smoke wafting in your face like a fire pit!) all set for you each day! You can roast marshmallows/hot dogs with provided skewers. A lovely outdoor patio for your use with a table and umbrella, chairs, rocking chairs under cover from rain, gas grill, and a hammock.

All high quality linens provided; the sofa provides a pull out double bed for one additional person. Keurig coffee maker; your first morning's K-cups provided along with milk/sugar. Free WiFi, 39 inch flat screen television, new full-sized kitchen appliances (refrigerator with ice maker) and washer/dryer (with needed laundry supplies) in the cottage basement. Starter supplies provided (trashbags, dishwashing liquid as well as dishwasher detergent, toilet paper, kleenex, bath soap, paper towels, plastic wrap/aluminum foil/storage bags, basic spices/oils for cooking/grilling, all this and we provide many other amenities for your use, hiking sticks, backpack, umbrellas, picnic basket, camp chairs to take to concerts, picnic, or day trip to Biltmore Estate, Blue Ridge Parkway, or NC Arboretum.

Please note that Hattie's Hideaway is located behind our home in Black Mountain and we are full-time residents. We have just completed an update to the cottage with new linens - sheets, towels, pillows, shower curtain liners, etc.

About Pam Hester

We have both been in the real estate profession for over 30 years; Worth has been a residential contractor in High Point, Boone, and Black Mountain, North Carolina. I have been a Realtor in the Asheville/WNC area since 1995. We operate long term rental properties and decided we wanted to get into the short term, vacation rental business. We both moved back to the Asheville area in the early 1990's, where I grew up and Worth spent his summers as a child. We absolutely love Black Mountain! It brings back all of those wonderful memories of growing up! Kids riding bikes through this little town neighborhood, sitting on our front porch greeting passers by, walking our dogs in the evenings and visiting with our neighbors, going next door for dinner with friends, enjoying our neighborhood July 4th and Kentucky Derby parties! We invite you to come and enjoy our little town and bring back your own childhood memories - or - create some new memories at our sweet Hattie's Hideaway!

Why Pam Hester chose Black Mountain

Located in the historic neighborhood situated in the lovely small mountain town of Black Mountain! You can take a leisurely stroll to downtown shops and restaurants, or you can take a walk to Lake Tomahawk just five minutes (4 1/2 blocks) away. Hike great trails in Montreat, play golf at the Black Mountain Golf Course, enjoy tennis & basketball courts at Lake Tomahawk, take a drive into Asheville or one of the many lovely towns situated around Asheville, or explore the Blue Ridge Parkway--- all of these are located from 2 minutes to 45 minutes away! During the winter months, skiing, tubing, and snow boarding only about 45 minutes away in Madison County. During the summer months, go boating, fishing, swimming in lakes located just 30 to 45 minutes away in neighboring counties of Henderson and McDowell. Western North Carolina provides opportunities to do just about anything you are interested in!!

What makes this cottage unique

If you want to just get away from it all, you can spend some quality time reading a book sitting by the pond, napping in the hammock, preparing a fun, gourmet meal with someone you love, or watching some television curled up on the sofa in front of the gas wood stove! There are lovely views from the porch off the bedroom --- the backyard is private and unbelievably quiet for an in-town lot. We believe that Hattie's and Black Mountain offer anything that you might want to do or can serve as your home to base out of to further explore Asheville and Western North Carolina.

Absolutely awesome cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED this awesome little bungalow. It is adorable, neat and tidy and the yard is beautiful. Loved the outdoor fireplace and the hammock was super to relax in. Inside the house they have covered everything you can think of. Every time I turned around there was something else that made the place special! We will be back!

Simply Amazing... Everything you need is here for you with first class accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is super clean and fresh. Furnishings appear to be new with many extras. Pam and Worth are the personification of the perfect HomeAway/VRBO property owner. The outdoor space is incredible, in fact we didn't want to leave for dinner so we enjoyed delicious takeout dining on the bedroom deck overlooking the beautifully landscaped yard with spectacular water feature. Later that evening we enjoyed sitting by the outdoor fireplace with the perfect blazing fire. Sadly, it's time to head home, and we still do not want to leave this wonderful space.

Perfect Cottage in quaint Black Mountain

  • 5 of 5

Hattie’s Hideaway provides a great spot for a mountain getaway. The size, location, decor and landscaping all added up to the most relaxing retreat. We loved the outdoor space and even had a fire outside during a cool day. The inside was spotless, warm and cozy. I would definitely recommend and I hope to be back again soon.

Sshhh ...

  • 5 of 5

To be honest, I didn't want to write a review of our stay because I don't want others to know about this little gem . But alas, I shouldn't be selfish. We rented this property for a getaway over New Year's. From the get-go, Pam was very responsive and helpfully provided recommendations New Year's Eve. The cottage is charming - perfect for two - and the backyard would have been inviting if the weather had been warmer. The cottage is a short walk to downtown Black Mountain with ample shopping and restaurants and close to several trails for hiking. It's definitely a location I'll return to, so shhh ... enjoy but don't tell too many people!
