Handcrafted Log Cottage and separate Studio Apartment nestled among the trees.
About Ruth Dickerson
We, Sam & Marilyn, first visited Homer in 1974 and made it our home in 1976. We enjoyed raising our 2 children and 2 adopted native children in this small community setting. We have been involved in establishing a successful construction company, dabbled in commercial fishing and our adopted son 'Captain' Willie now helps to run our Fishing Charter business - Reel Fun Charters. The property is managed by our friend Ruth. Proud to be a Kiwi, but she has lived in Homer for 30 years now. She raised her 3 children here and has hiked, biked, rafted and paddled her way through much of Alaska and beyond.

Why Ruth Dickerson chose Homer
When we first visited this property, we were awed by the sense of peacefulness that surrounded us. The craftsmanship of the woodwork and the inspiring views are delightful and capture much of what we love about Alaska. We enjoyed upgrading some of the features to create a real gem of a place that we are excited to share with others who choose to visit. The location, so close to all the amenities and tourist attractions, makes this property so ideal for your vacation.
What makes this House unique
The 2 buildings are nestled among the trees on 1 1/2 acres with full southern exposure to capture the sun. There is a great feeling of seclusion, yet it's so close to the many attractions of Homer! The expansive deck and front lawn make a wonderful place to relax - right on the water's edge - while you marvel at the drop-dead-gorgous view of the rugged mountains and glaciers across the bay. Done with relaxing? Just 1/2 mile away the Bay Club offers a full range of exercise opportunities including a pool and racquetball courts. The paved spit trail, 1 mile away, is ideal for walking, biking and rollerblading or enjoy wandering along the beach at low tide. Grocery stores, banks, museums, galleries and several notable restaurants are all within 3 miles.

Great Alaska Experience
We had a group of 7 and rented both the Moose Lodge and the Bears Den. It was the perfect size for our group. Comfortable beds, nice kitchen, very clean and welcoming with views to die for. Close enough to town and the spit but seemed very private. Would definitely like to stay there again. Ruth was very friendly and accommodating to fit our schedule since we arrived a little early. Great place to gather with family
Beautiful View in Homer!
We enjoyed our stay in this cabin in Homer. The view across the bay is spectacular. We unfortunately had a couple of days when smoke from a forest fire obscured things, but before that it was breathtaking. Communication with Ruth was fantastic. She even came to check-in on everything. The cabin is clean and well decorated. The cabin was as described, but I didn’t really get that the two single beds were right at the bottom of stairs from the main living area, so my kids had trouble sleeping when we were awake and doing things on the main floor. Also as described there are a lot of windows that do not/cannot have blackout shades so the two upper floors remain well lit all the time in the summer. I do wish there was a table with more than 4 chairs. Neither the inside nor outside table had chairs for my family of five. We like our dinners all together so some extra chairs would be nice. There was also less cups and utensils than ideal, so we were doing dishes not infrequently. Overall though, this is a cute cabin in a great location and we did enjoy our stay.
Second time to rent this place and still love it! Beautiful views and beautiful cabin.
Heaven in Homer!
Highlights of our stay in this CHARMING property include watching bald eagles soar past from the rocking chairs in the second floor master bedroom loft and eating a feast of local oysters and freshly caught halibut on the sunny deck overlooking the Kachemak Bay. It truly felt like a home away from home for our spectacular Alaskan family vacation. The bayside location offers easy and quick access to The Spit and to town. Living spaces are so inviting, and the freshing renovated kitchen was well stock and pin neat! We appreciated all of the information compiled about local attractions, restaurants, and services. Yet following each day's adventure, we were thrilled to return to this jewel. Thank you for sharing this special home! We hope to return again soon.
Beautiful spacious cabin with a spectacular view. Ruth was very hospitable. Thank you!
We had a great stay at Ruth’s cabin. It has a very unique and cool looking interior. Ruth left the fire place on for us so as soon as we got in the cabin was nice and toasty. Awesome deck with a great view. My friends and I were very pleased and would reccomend it to anyone else. Many thanks to Ruth!
Our favorite rental by far. The home is beautiful, the view is stunning, the beds are like sleeping in the clouds, and it is outfitted with everything you could need during a stay. If you are looking to stay in Homer - THIS IS THE PLACE! 10/10 will stay again!
The property is just one mile from the base of the famous 4 mile long Homer Spit and Mariner Park Beach. The seperated pathway is great for walking, biking (rentals available from Homer Saw) and rollerblading. The End-of-the-Road is a mecca for tourist shops and galleries, cafes and restaurants. The picturesque Homer Harbor offers access to Fishing Charters, Wildlife Cruises and hiking in Kachemak Bay State Park.
