About John Cortez
Hi, I'm a retired Medical Social Worker originally from Los Angeles, CA and now living in San Francisco, CA for the last 25 years. I went to Loyola University in Los Angeles and studied to be an accountant as that was my parent's dream. The course work was easy, I graduated and got the job...but then I found out I really did not like to work as an accountant. So I then began my own journey which eventually led me to San Francisco where I went into the Social Work arena. I received my Master's degree in Social Work from San Francisco State University. I also am licensed by the State of California as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. The majority of my working years were spent in the medical field, primarily in the home care, hospice and hospital settings. I love to travel and back in 1985 I first came to the Cancun area where I fell in love with the beaches...but not all the high rise mega hotel complexes. As the years progressed I went traveling further down the coast and eventually found Tulum...and so my dream of living near the beautiful Caribbean beaches began to become a reality here in Tulum which is heaven on earth...and if you do not believe in heaven that is okay, just think of the best thing you can...and Tulum is MORE than that. Of course this is just my humble opinion!

Why John Cortez chose Aldea Zama
I think you can figure out why I wanted to move here, or live here part time, based on what I wrote above. The ideal possibly might have been to actually live on the waterfront, but then I would not have enough time left over for all of life's other pleasures. So after looking and looking for the last several years at properties in Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Belize, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Brazil and the USA, I decided to take the plunge on this property in Tulum. It is new, near the beach, just the right size, close to home (USA), allows me to connect with the local culture and not be in a 'gated' compound, lets me wander on my bike back and forth to town or the beach, has great food, and has great opportunities to exercise naturally (sometimes) and stay in shape
What makes this Condo unique
I love living in a place which is connected to Mother Nature, where the birds sing and make their noises during the day and night, where little gecko lizards scamper around, where the iguana makes you stop or slow down, where the sunsets are beautiful, where the lightening and thunder showers are so intense that it stops you in your tracks...but where the creature comforts of life are close at hand.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely condo. Seems they have thought of every detail to make it an enjoyable experience. The pool was pristine, the private roof top jacuzzi was so much nicer and more private than I imagined, the kitchen stocked with every tool you could need, the grocery store is a 5 min cab ride, the black out curtains were very much appreciated when we wanted to sleep in, the built in custom closets made me feel right at home, the water pressure in the showers was strong, the washer and dryer were great to have for laundry. I could go on and on...it was perfect. You can take a taxi anywhere and they are readily available as soon as you step outside the condo. There is 24hr security walking the grounds around the property so we felt extremely safe here. 10/10 would recommend. The owner is very accommodating and easy to work with.
This spot was amazing and the service was excellent.
As we were leaving on our last day we had our luggage by our rental car and I discovered the battery was dead. No worries. One call to Roger and five minutes later he was there to jump start the car. We really appreciated his willingness to make everything go smoothly!
I'm glad you and the family had a great stay in Tulum and in my condo. We aim to please and I am glad that Roger was there to help out with the unexpected dead battery. I look forward to hosting you again in the future.
This was an awesome condo.
This condo was perfect for us. We made good use of both the upper deck and deck off living room for meals. The bikes were so appreciated. We used them everyday to bike to the beach, ruins, town etc. The location between the beach and town worked well for us. We also appreciated Roger being there to help us check in and show us the condo. Communication was easy. We highly recommend this condo.
Loved everything about it! Would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in that area....
Thanks for visiting Tulum and staying with me. I am glad that you loved your time staying in my place. I look forward to hosting you or your friends in the future.
Home away from home
This was our first time in Tulum and we couldn't have picked a more perfect spot than John's place. It was in a great location situated midway between the beach and downtown. The bikes that were available with the condo were perfect to either head into town or the beach, about a 10-15 minute ride either way. The Aldea Zama area were the condo is located is a newer community and the condo itself is in a gated complex which was great, we felt very safe and secure there. The condo was very clean and nicely decorated. Also, we cooked a lot of meals at the condo and I truly appreciated how well stocked the kitchen was with everything that we needed. We loved being able to sit on the balcony for our meals and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and ambience of the complex. The property managers for the condo were also helpful and were very quick in their reponses. We would definitely return and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this place to our friends and family.
Thanks for the feedback. It is always nice to know that what we are doing is right for travelers coming to Tulum. I look forward to hosting you in the future!
Great location and a comfortable place to stay!
We really enjoyed our time at this condo. The location was perfect for the beach, ruins, and even a few trips up to Xsenses and Xplor. Our family of 5 fit comfortably with one child using the couch as a bed. They found it very comfortable. The management company used was extremely helpful and the directions left at the condo had all the information needed for us to do our part in taking care of the condo.
I'm glad that you had a great time visiting the Tulum area. It truly is a wonderful place to spend a few days to a few weeks in the area. My management team and I try our hardest to take care of our guests and it looks like they are doing their part in welcoming and assisting guests. All the best and I look forward to hosting you again in the future.
Tulum is known for it's Mayan ruins and it's fantastic beaches. The area is also a protected zone for sea turtles who return year after year to lay their eggs and let their babies crawl out of the sand and head out to the ocean on life's journey. The area is also on the edge of the vast Sian Ka'an Reserve which is the home to additional natural wildlife. The 'cenotes' or fresh water pools are all around for swimming. There are numerous recreational playgrounds that have cave tubing, zip lining and various other water features for enjoying nature but also keeping you cool by the water themed attractions. Yoga, massages and healthy food are all at your finger tips.
