About this property

Our 1920's Guest House, with new (2023) whole house A/C, is situated in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, with breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains.
We are the closest accommodation to the Virginia Horse Center as the Oak Hill Cross Country course is directly across the street and the main facility is 1/2 mile away. We are also conveniently located approximately 5-20 minutes from most of the wedding venues in the Lexington, Va area.
This gracious home has five bedrooms upstairs. The two bedrooms with twin beds are accessed through the green and yellow bedrooms. Three full bathrooms are located upstairs.
The sixth bedroom is on the first floor. There is also a half bath on the first floor.
The house sleeps a total of 11 people in beds.
There is a large, fully equipped kitchen and large sunny dining room for all of your cooking and entertainment needs.
Our beautiful Sunroom is located across the rear of the house. This sunny space is perfect for a lovely meal, game playing or enjoying the afternoon with a good book. The rear deck includes a table and chairs with seating for six and a gas grill.
We are conveniently located just 1/2 mile from the Virginia Horse Center and two miles from Historic Lexington, VMI and W&L.
The Guesthouse is adjacent to Carol's Cottage which is also listed on VRBO. 590464 is the listing number for the Cottage. The total capacity for both properties is 17 combined in beds.

Wonderful stay

Wonderful stay in this lovely home for my daughter’s graduation from Washington and Lee. The house was warm and inviting, with everything you could possibly want or need. The rooms and beds were cozy, and sitting out on the front porch listening to the birds and watching the Virginia rolling hills was a dream! We rented owner’s second home next door, as well which was equally as inviting. Highly recommend!

Beautiful house, perfect location

My friends and I stayed here when we were competing at the Virginia horse center. The house was perfectly located so we could take care of the horses easily throughout the day and evening. Bernard and carol were super communicative and the house was clean and inviting. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.

Bernie is originally from the Northwest of England and has lived in Lexington at the Guesthouse since 2002. He ran this property as a successful Bed and Breakfast, The Rider's Rest, until 2014. Carol is originally from Charleston, West Virginia. She moved to Lexington and purchased Carol's Cottage in 2011. The Cottage is next door to the Guesthouse. Bernie and Carol were married in the Gazebo of their beautiful property on June 1st, 2013.

Why they chose this property

Bernie visited Lexington in the 90's through the invitation from a fellow Brit and fell in love with the area. It reminded him of his birth place in Lancashire, North West England, more than any where else he had visited in America. At that time he was living in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and although the sun was a nice change from the British weather, he missed the scenery and seasons of home. In 2002 he had the opportunity to purchase this 1920's home, totally remodeling it in 2002 - 2003. The house was updated while retaining the charm of days past. Every morning Carol and I awake feeling so lucky to have found our piece of paradise.

What makes this property unique

The view from the front porch overlooks 300 acres belonging to the Virginia Horse Center with Hog Back Mountain in the back ground. Downtown Historic Lexington is only 2 miles from our door. The Guesthouse is located on a quiet country lane but is conveniently located close to shopping, sightseeing and major highways. We are the Owner/Managers of our properties.
