About Doug Patchin

We're Doug and Tracy, and we are the new owners of Lakeside Hideaway, (formerly Grizzly Turtle Lodge). My wife and I have been coming to Bull Shoals lake for almost 20 years with our family. We have three grown children, and one son-in-law, and we all live in a suburb of Chicago. We began coming to Bull Shoals Lake to escape from the daily life in a crowded city. Boating, fishing, hiking, fishing, swimming, and fishing are among the things we have enjoyed with siblings, nieces, and nephews. Our very favorite thing is just sitting back and looking out over the water.

Doug Patchin purchased this house in 2013

Why Doug Patchin chose Arkansas

We have talked for years about taking the plunge and purchasing property on the lake. Over the last five years we got serious and would spend a couple days during our vacations looking at lake properties. After seeing this log home and the lake views, we knew this one was too good to pass up. This is absolutely our dream. The views are breathtaking whether you're enjoying coffee on the deck or watching the sunset. Have I mentioned that the fishing is pretty great? We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

What makes this house unique

Secluded log home, surrounded by nature, with an amazing lake view, and a peaceful relaxed feeling.

Great Place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We rented out this cabin in early September for our annual motorcycle trip. Myself and my 4 brothers had nothing but good things to say about the cabin. Great location, great amenities, great view of the lake and also access to the lake, which we swam in everyday after getting back from a day of riding on the great roads in MO & AR! We grilled out several nights using one of the two Weber grills on the massive deck off the back of the cabin. The large screened in porch was also a nice amentitiy for relaxing without being bothered by pesky insects. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the things you would need to prepare and eat a meal.

Thanks Doug for making it a great stay!

Greg

We'll Be Baaaackkk!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had the most amazing weekend at Lakeside Hideaway. It was a perfect spot for our family reunion. Both of our boys got married this summer, and this was the first time since then we could all be together again as a family since their weddings. We knew this place would be nice from the pictures we saw on the internet, but the pictures did not do it justice. It was breathtaking! The view of lake was tremendous. We ate every meal out on the screened in porch so we could just keep taking in the view. The weather had turned chili that weekend but with the fireplace on the porch, we stayed nice and warm scooted up close to the roaring fire. A perfect fall atmosphere. The cabin was so secluded in the trees , and the lake so quiet, it felt like there was no one around for 10 miles, yet it was easy access right off a paved road. I like that it set back off the road with a longer drive way. The cabin was stocked with many items that we had been told to provide for ourselves. We didn't need to use their supplies since we had brought our own, but it was nice to know that if we had forgotten anything, we wouldn't have had to do without. The beds were comfortable and the bedroom upstairs was especially roomy and inviting. The living room furniture was comfy, and there was plenty of seating on the decks, porches, and even the trees were hospitiable....We brought our hammocks for lounging, and the trees were spaced evenly enough apart that there was room to hang them so we could lay in the hammocks and watch the lake. This spot was wonderful for our big family, but my husband and I plan to return in the summer with just the two of us for a romantic get away as well. I would recommend it to anyone who loves nature, privacy, and the water.

Just perfect

  • 5 of 5

We vacationed with a total of 4 couples and 1 child. It was the perfect size for us. The screened in porch was my personal favorite. The boys really liked that they could climb down the rocks and drop a line in to fish. I wouldn't recommend the climb, but if you're able- it's the perfect spot to dip in the water or catch a few bass. The owner recommended bug spray, but the weather was just right, that I didn't get a single bite! We also drove down to the marina and jumped in the water at the little beach nearby. That was perfect for the kiddo. The house was really clean. Everything was easy to find in the kitchen and closets. We also got a kick out of the VHS selection. We had a movie night every night! There are no locks on the bedroom doors, which isn't that big of a deal. And we wanted to make margaritas, but the blender didn't work. Neither of those complaints will deter me from staying here again. We all decided that we would like to stay annually because we loved it so much!

Owner's Response: Hi Katie, Thank you for your kind review! Sorry about the blender, it will be replaced this weekend, we too like a frozen drink now and then. Thanks again, Doug & Tracy

Peaceful setting for relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

Lakeside Hideaway is the perfect spot to enjoy time with Family! Everything about this home was as it was advertised or better! The view of the lake is fantastic. We also hiked through the woods to the lake, but caution the rocks are steep and slippery. The screen room was the best place to hang out, even during the rain!

Lakeside Hideaway is the perfect place to relax!

  • 5 of 5

The log home has all the basic necessities to make you feel at home with so much more! You can enjoy the views from the screened in porch or the huge deck in the back yard. This part of the lake isn't super busy, so you only see a boat pass by once in a while. There are several marinas near by where you can rent a boat to fish or spend time on the lake. The location is secluded enough to relax and be in nature, but also offers options nearby to enjoy more activities! Highly recommend this as a vacation spot- we will be returning!

Lakeside Hideaway a true Blessing!!

  • 5 of 5

Accomodations were awesome and just as advertised in the posting. Very peaceful setting - sunsets incredible!! Wildlife and quiet surrounds you in a very relaxing way. Exploring by the lakeside was exciting (not for faint of heart - owner not kidding about rocks and ledges!) but what an amazing view and hiking experience for the whole family.
