About THEA THOMAS
I am an Alaskan, but Los Barriles and southern Baja has been my winter home for the past 20 years. I was able to buy the property many years ago and the house was completed in 2010 and the casita was finished in late 2014.
THEA THOMAS purchased this Guest House in 2014
Why THEA THOMAS chose Los Barriles
The property is in a lovely neighborhood area between two large arroyos, just north of Los Barriles. It is quiet, but still close to shops and restaurants. The beach is a short walk down the hill, with the best kiteboarding and windsurfing beaches very close. There is a local store and restaurant, just down the hill within walking distance. All other shops and restaurants and a quick drive.

Bed uncomfortable & VERY high up
Driveway would be better using a 4x4. Had to take a run at it & very narrow opening. Very steep. House clean but bed very high off the ground & very uncomfortable. There were only 2 towels which is not enough for people who go to the beach to snorkel & swim. 4 noisy dogs on porch next door left out all day. We left a day early & headed to Cabo Pulmo to better quarters. The little house was equipped ok just the bed was terrible & driveway bad. Sofa in living room needs replaced. I would not recommend to friends.
The driveway is narrow, but works with the small rental cars available in Los Cabos, with a little extra attention getting in and out of the driveway is reasonable. The bed is high, but allows a wonderful view of the Sea of Cortez, and small step will be provided in the future. The sofa will be recovered this summer. I appreciate the feedback.
Casita in Buenos Aires
The casita is nice with an ocean view and an approx 20 min walk to Las Barilles, so a car, bike or quad is beneficial. It is the Baha and the Wifi can be unreliable but I was unable to connect or stay connected for the majority of my stay.
There are dogs everywhere in LB, but barking at night from the 3 dogs in the closest casa was annoying. On the upside, the beach is a short walk away and there lots of places to hike or bike in the hills behind the casita. The owner, Thea was pleasant to deal with.
Very Nice Casita
Nice and clean, just like the photos. There were two of us and we had a side-by-side vehicle that made it convenient to get back and forth to town about a mile or so without driving our truck. The wireless internet service was excellent. April was warmer than usual in Los Barriles and the casita got hot. A fan was provided which helped but if you go during warm periods you might be spending lots of time down at the beach unless the wind is blowing. This would have been a 5 star review if the property had air conditioning or another method of cooling adequately. Overall, we enjoyed our two week stay. Thea and Kay were excellent to work with!
Very Clean and Secure
The wife and I stayed here for a full two weeks in early April and loved it! It is large enough for a couple with a private bath and bedroom. The Casita is clean, and secure with a great covered patio. Location is just enough out of Los Barriles town for peace and quite yet close enough to ride your bike to. There is a small well stocked market two blocks away and two palapa type restaurants within an easy walk. The closest beach is maybe 500 yrds. It is safe but rocky and used by the kite surfers. If your a couple that windsurfs or kite boards this is nirvana.
Great location, lovely casita
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Casita. The view over the Sea of Cortez was wonderful, the neighborhood was nice, and the owner, who lives next door, was very helpful. It was a quiet and relaxing location, but just a short drive or bike ride away from the restaurants and shops in town. There were some great hikes in the hills behind the Casita that started from my door, with a wonderful beach a short walk away.
beautiful, new casita
Great stay in a nice neighborhood. My wife and I spent four relaxing nights. This casita is brand new and very nicely furnished and decorated. Very comfortable, big bedroom, good internet. When you wake in the morning, you can watch the sun rise over the Sea of Cortez from bed. Great beach and prime kite boarding area a short walk away. We enjoyed the small family-run restaurant just a block away.
All the best that Mexico has to offer comes together in Los Barriles. A combination of superlative weather, natural beauty, culture and slower pace of life make this the perfect place to vacation. If you like Mexico and are looking for something more personal than the mega-resort feel of Cabo San Lucas, you’ll love the small town atmosphere and sense of community you can find here in Los Barriles. Los Barriles is a seaside town that retains much of the kick-back pace that made Baja popular! Fabulous sandy beaches, clean beautiful seas filled with fish, crystal clear air, and a remote feeling that seems far removed from civilization. Los Barriles is famous for deep sea fishing, although kiteboarding and windsurfing are increasingly popular. Los Barriles is located on the eastern coast in an area referred to as Cabo Este (East Cape) about halfway between Cabo San Lucas and the charming capital in La Paz. Both those cities host international airports, the nearest (SJD) being less than an hour’s drive from Los Barriles.
The amazing diversity of the landscape has given rise to equally amazing and diverse flora and fauna. Between the rocky coast on the Pacific side and the flat sandy beaches of the Sea of Cortez, you’ll find Cardón filled deserts, ancient mango groves, and conifer covered mountain ranges. It is estimated that there are over 125 species of plants found only in this region. This area is extremely popular with bird watchers who seek out our 6 endemic species including the adorable Cape Pygmy Owl.
Temperatures average between 63º and 84º Fahrenheit making it comfortable year-round.
