About the property

Outstanding Lakeside Victorian Manor House In Walled Estate

Carriglea House is a ‘historic house’ and is one of the jewels in the crown of Killarney accommodation. Its location alone is unrivalled, sitting on a slight rise overlooking the lakes and mountains, in a peaceful countryside setting but still within walking distance to Killarney town and across the street from the entrance to the national park. The house itself like the setting is totally unique, it has kept its old world charm but with modern conveniences discreetly included. This period house has an interesting history mirroring the history of Ireland from the landlord era to present day.

The rooms are all large with the drawing room and dining room featuring some wonderful antique furniture and large bay windows with lake views. The bedrooms have their own private bathroom. The kitchen is modernly equipped with the addition of an AGA stove which will be the one piece of equipment you will long to take home with you. The kitchen larder which s an old confession box adds to the charm.

The grounds are large with huge lawns and mature gardens with some very interesting features, like pond and it's natural water fountain. The entrance to the National Park is just across the street, which allows your party to pursue different interests. Maybe it’s a jog or a romantic lakeside stroll or visiting an old abbey, its all there on your doorstep.

We also have two self-catering courtyard cottages available on the property, that are ented separately.

About John and Eileen Beazley

Carriglea House was built in 1860. It first opened its doors to guests in the summer of 1932 and a tradition started that has continued uninterrupted to the present day spanning 4 generations of the Beazley family. Carriglea offers guests house rental for a limited number of weeks each year. As on site owners we can offer you a personalised service with help and advise always at hand.

John, Eileen Beazley and family are your hosts. John grew up at Carriglea and along with running the farm has been welcoming guests to his home all his life. Eileen is also a Killarney native, a nurse and midwife, she loves cooking and a good chat. We all love the house and farm at Carriglea and its surroundings and like nothing better than seeing people enjoy it like we do. We are here to help you with your holiday so you can relax in our truly sublime setting.

John and Eileen Beazley purchased this farmhouse in 1922

Why John and Eileen Beazley chose Killarney

Carriglea house is an unique 19th century Victorian manor house ideally located overlooking the Killarney lakes and adjoining the Killarney National Park. It has 30 acres of private grounds and mature gardens. It has an unrivalled and enviable location only minutes from Killarney town but still in the country, all of the amenities are on your doorstep, enjoy a lakeside run, walk or cycle at any time for free as the National Park is just across the street. Wake up each morning and gaze out the window at Lough Leane, the wonderful grounds at Carriglea, from the wild rabbits playing in the lawn to to the lakes and mountain backdrop, take a stroll down our tree lined avenue through the farm and see our cows and calves grazing contently near a mystical fairy fort, meet our donkey ‘Paddy’ and our rescue pony ‘Beauty‘, eat some freshly laid eggs for breakfast from our chickens and if you have a few minutes to spare during the day just cross the street to the boathouse and enjoy postcard scenery and on the hot days take a dip in the lake.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Carriglea House and its surrounds is considered to be one of the most beautiful properties in Killarney. Its unique location offers guests the opportunity to stay in close proximity to Killarney town and yet in the heart of the National Park, with direct access to the Lakes and trails. However, as it is an historic house it may not be suitable for large number of young children.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Carriglea House is a great place to be. The Rooms are extremely comfortable and the look over the lake is amazing. It is near to all the main attractions and a good starting point for daily journeys. Eileen is very courteous and has always a good tip were to go. Horse, donkey, dog and rabbits make this farm complete.

Friends and Family at Carriglea House

  • 5 of 5

The Carriglea House offers everything that a large group would want for a a weeks stay in Ireland. Located in Killarney across from the beautiful lakes and a short (3km) walk into Town Centre.

The house itself is classic with 6 large bedrooms with very comfortable beds and its own bathrooms. We traveled as a group of 6 couples, some family but most of us were college friends and spouses. It was a perfect arrangement, with a large kitchen and dinning area that we prepared our own meals on three days had a chef prepare dinner for us one night and and our hosts, John and Eileen Beasley , prepared a wonderful full Irish breakfast on those days that we were setting out early for touring around Ireland. The house was a perfect location as a home base for tours to the Cliffs of Moher, Dingle, Cork as well as Kerry.

John and Eileen had great advice as to some of the sights not to miss on our tours. Staying at Carriglea House gives you a strong feeling of old and new Ireland, a perfect blend.

Speaking for our group, I strongly recommend the house and its hosts for your stay in Ireland.

Views, history, gorgeous grounds, and charming hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family of nine enjoyed an extraordinary week on this special property. The house is full of history and charm. The farm / grounds are full of flowers, animals and stunning views. The location worked well for us a home base to visit southwest Ireland by car as well as walking access to Killarney National Park. And on top of all that our hosts were warm, charming, helpful and thoughtful. One morning Eileen brought out apples and bread for the children to feed the horses and donkey. She dug a stroller out of storage for us to borrow, and left us a bowl of cherries from the day's harvest. Our stay could not have been better.

an absolutely amazing and unforgettable stay!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect is the best description of our visit to Killarney and the Carriglea House! John and Eileen were amazing hosts- their genuine love for what they do along with their courteous manner and excellent service. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and look to do this again in this very house.

Our trip was to celebrate my nephew and his girlfriend's graduation from Villanova Law School. My brother wanted to do this trip and several others jumped on the opportunity to go. There were 13 of us, family and friends ranging from 19 and up. I was so fortunate to have found this house available. We rented the entire B&B- it was perfect- tons of room to accommodate everyone. We had John and Eileen do their delicious Irish breakfast 3 on the 6 days we were there-it was wonderful (or as Eileen would say, lovely!).

Eileen made great recommendations before and while we were there for tours- recommended the bus company and made great suggestions for where to go.

Kerry Coaches did a great job for us in our private bus

Ring of Kerry and Cork were the 2 trips we did.

The Gap of Dunloe tour was the best experience ever on a beautiful day with the boat ride and carriage ride- Eileen made all the arrangements.

On our own we toured Killarney, drove to Dingle which was a ton of fun!

We loved the farm- especially the animals- they may need to go on a diet after we left- feeding them carrots and apples- We all miss Lizzie and Beauty the horses, Paddy the donkey, Buddy the dog and the 2 kittens who became very close friends!

If you are planing a trip to Ireland- this is a perfect location, centrally located to so many places. The hosts are warm and wonderful. Even if you do not need the entire house, book a room or a cottage- it is so worth it. We plan to do this again, hopefully soon. There is never enough time to do everything.

Don't miss on the chance of a lifetime, it was for us! I speak for all of us. Thank you John and Eileen for an experience of a life time! We WILL see you again soon!

Beautiful, historic home is excellent location

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time here. Our children loved playing in the yard on the tire swing as well as with the donkey, horse and cats.

Muckross house was just a short walk and enjoyable walk away.

If the AGA stove would have fit in our luggage, we would have taken it home with us. Cooking with it was such a joy.

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful, historic home!

Amazing stay!

  • 5 of 5

You won't find a better spot! We had a large group of 12 people and we choose Carriglea House because it is right across the street from the Killarney National Forest, and had a wonderful view. You feel very relaxed and away from it all, but Killarney town is close to enjoy. We did not rent a car, but either walked or took taxis. The walk is easy, with a nice walking/biking road next to the regular road. The taxis were great and came quickly. A couple of us rented bikes right down the road. The house is charming and older, with lots of beautiful touches. Yet modern enough to be very comfortable. We stayed a week, and it was a great base to do tours (we did Gap of Dunloe, Dingle Peninsula and Muckross House, all highly recommended), or just hang out and relax in the house, going into Killarney for some great sites, shopping and pubs. But, the best part? Eileen and John Beazley. I have never had owners help so much in making sure we had a great time! They were a wonderful source of information and help. They were there to answer any questions and even arranged most of our tours for us. Yet they were never intrusive! They live on site, behind the house, but you wouldn't know it unless someone told you because we only saw them when we needed them. I can't say enough about how much they helped to make our trip great. I had done alot of research before we went, and knew what we wanted to do, but they knew the best ways to get it done. Plus it was great getting advice about local restaurants and pubs. I love using Trip Advisor, but there was nothing like getting information from people who have lived there all of their lives. They normally run this as a B&B, which is why there aren't any other reviews on this VRBO site. But we rented the whole place, which gave us full run of the kitchen and laundry also. They provide bath towels and basic supplies, like soap for the dishwasher and toilet paper. If you like beer, be sure to stop in at the Killarney Brewing Company for a tour (12 euro for 2 beers, 16 for 4). Also, found some beautiful jewelry at Brian De Staic. If you do yoga, or just want to try it, be sure to check out Nave Yoga (14 euro to join a class, you don't need to call ahead and they have mats, blocks, etc. for your use). For a fantastic dinner, go to The Bricin (recommended by Eileen). If you want to have a wonderful, relaxing trip, be sure to choose this wonderful house, whether you rent the full house, or book in as a B&B.
