About Terry Myers

Hi, we are the owners, Ted and Terry Myers. We love the outdoors and especially this beautiful lake. Over the years we frequently vacationed at Dale Hollow Lake. In 2000 we rented a cabin on the lake and dreamed of having our own. During that vacation we met a log home builder who also had lake view property for sale so you can guess what happened. We purchased the property and began the planning process for building our own log home. The building of the chalet was a family affair so we took great pride in the work quality completing 80% ourselves. A year later the home was complete and we have been enjoying it with friends and family since 2001. Now we have decided to open it up to you.

We feel very blessed to have the Chalet and choose to pass that blessing on to others by donating a week's vacation at the Chalet to various charitable groups. Since we began renting the Chalet in 2014 we have donated over 10 weeks. Our goal is to donate 10% of our gross revenue annually, and we have far exceeded that number to date. We are truly blessed.

Ted was born in New York and moved around quite a bit as a military kid. His father's last post was at WPAFB in Dayton Ohio. Terry was born and raised in Ohio and met Ted when they both worked retail during college. We married after graduation and a few years later moved to Kentucky and we have been here since.

Terry Myers purchased this chalet in 2001

Why Terry Myers chose Burkesville

Imagine traveling down a county maintained gravel road for a mile. At the end of the road sits a beautiful log home for your vacation. Surrounded by woodlands, some of which are owned by the Army Corp of Engineers, your only visitors will be squirrels, deer, and turkey by day and owls by night.

Friends and family who have stayed with us say there is something about staying at the Happy Hill Chalet that makes you sleep better at night. It could be its secluded location, it could be a day of fun on the lake, hiking, or ATV riding, it could be relaxing on the back deck or in the hot tub, or the comfortable beds, but whatever it is it seems to work if you need to rest.

What makes this chalet unique

Large enough to accommodate a group of 19 without feeling like your are crowding each other, yet cozy enough for smaller groups. With 3,800 square feet inside plus upper and lower decks on both the front and back of the home, you will have plenty of room to come together or have some separate space.

Oh my goodness!!! What an amazing place for our family reunion!! Everything we needed and more. Kitchen was wonderfully stocked with all our needs including great seating areas. Had 2 great meals thanks to gas grills! Basement game area was spacious and had plenty of fun things for every age. All 3 outside decks were awesome! The front porch was so inviting and great for group pictures. The porch swing so roomy. The campfire area was a popular gathering spot. Beds were so comfy and the sheets were soft. Decor was so fun throughout! View from the hotub was beautiful and close to deck seating to include everyone in conversations. We had a the absolutely fantastic weekend. Availability of owners to handle minor hot tub problem was immediate and very kind. We just had such a GREAT time and appreciate how secluded it was from everything. Was very well prepared for our stay. Thank you just doesn't say enough!!!

A few things to consider. The Chalet sits at the end of a ridge and is accessed by a gravel road. The road is approximately 40 feet wide with forested hills on either side. There is a large hill with a steep grade at the entrance to the property. Therefore leaving the Chalet in a two-wheel drive vehicle requires speed and momentum to carry you up and over the hill, especially if you are loaded down with people and coolers. If you are towing a boat, we recommend you rent a slip at one of the nearby marinas and drop the boat off before you arrive at the Chalet. It is possible to bring a small boat down to the Chalet (24 feet or less), but you will need four-wheel drive to get out over the hill if you are towing a boat. The chalet is surrounded by forest and sits on top of a ridge. Therefore, it is not practical to get to the lake from the Chalet. We recommend accessing the lake via one of the nearby marinas.

Perfect for any vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We can not say enough about this amazing place! From the front door to the back deck, everything was beautiful and welcoming. The home offers plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen and great room make the perfect spot for meals and watching movies. The game room is spacious enough for everyone to be together while having fun. We had a wonderful vacation with friends, so much so, we now what to take our sons and their wives for a family vacation! PS We are from Indiana, a very flat state, so when they say there are some larger hills that you have to travel to get to the home , they are not joking! We would recommend a truck or vehicle with 4wd :) But this just adds to the character of the location!

Owner's Response: We are so pleased your found the Chalet beautiful, welcoming, and spacious. Our aim is to provide a vacation home that allows a large group to unwind and relax without being board. Sounds like you found the right mix of time to hang out together and time to retreat and relax. You are correct about the hills, they add to the character of the location and are beautiful to view from the lake. We look forward to being your family vacation spot for you and your sons and daughter-in-laws.

Submariners had a ball.

Eleven crew members of the nuclear submarine USS SAM HOUSTON, SSBN-609 celebrated their second reunion in 40 years the first week of October, 2017 Four members flew into Nashville, TN and shared a ride to the chalet. The rest of us drove.

The chalet is spacious and very accommodating. We did not travel away from the chalet with the exception of the Friday morning breakfast we were invited to, sponsored by the local VFW post in Burkesville.

Each of us agreed that the chalet is on the short list for our next reunion.

We spoke with a representative of the Burkesville VFW post and they were very excited to have your group for breakfast. Thank you again for all you have done to keep our country safe and free.

Dale Hollow Lake Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

Everyone LOVED the cabin – Absolutely Gorgeous! (If adding additional exclamation points will make you consider this cabin – Ill add as many as you need!!!) It is in the middle of nowhere – which is why you want to rent cabins in the first place! It is bigger than it looks when you arrive, with the basement level it adds considerable more bedrooms and play area for pool/foosball. The 6 separate bedrooms are extremely nice because everyone appreciates their privacy, even if it is a family reunion. I actually expected issues with family members finding the cabin, it isnt exactly take a left and your there. The directions provided were perfect, nobody got lost.

Additional amenities within the cabin were excellent, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, toaster, microwave, 2 big refrigerators – which were necessary since your bringing food for a lot of people, grill, deck chairs, and even the hot tub. The hot tub is a very nice large capacity, high quality tub. Its evident the owners didn’t just run out and purchase a cheap hot tub just to say they have one available. Everything was well maintained. We didn’t need to contact owners for anything.

Things to do in the area – With the lake nearby, we rented a pontoon boat, kayaks, canoes and enjoyed the day at the lake. When trying to coordinate kayak/canoe and pontoon rentals – they are not from the same location. And when you get to the lake it’s a 45 minute transit by pontoon boat to get to the people who wanted to kayak/canoe. We also didn’t think about losing cell phone on the lake. Only thing helping us was the cell phone GPS locator to get to the rest of our family on the other side of the lake. Rental prices are Extremely reasonable for everything we wanted.

We also hit Burkesville for minor grocery items we needed – they actually have a very good selection considering it’s a small town, additionally we hit the Pizza hut for our first dinner since we spent a lot of time catching up and after all the driving we didn’t feel like cooking that night. Everything/everybody was awesome!

Would I recommend this location? This Cabin? ABSOLUTELY! We cant praise it enough! As mentioned, the cabin is Gorgeous, everything provided was amazing! The moon reflecting off lake is – Gorgeous - extremely quite! Terry the owner is extremely helpful, responds quickly on coordination questions, makes herself available to assist with any issues – Zero complaints with that! Loved this cabin!

Owner's Response: We know it is hard to please everyone in a family get together – so when you told us there were zero complaints, and everyone loved the cabin – we were happy. The Chalet is our personal vacation home, and we decorate it and include amenities we prefer when we stay there. So, we manage it differently than a standard vacation rental where decisions are made strictly based on profits. We are glad to know your family also appreciated those amenities. Your note about cell phone service is important for future guests. While there is cell coverage at the Chalet with most major carriers (ATT, Verizon, and Sprint), in general cell phone coverage around the lake is spotty and on the lake, is almost nonexistent. That would make it challenging to communicate with others in your group who were at different locations on the lake. As you noticed, the lake is quite large at 61 miles long and 653 miles of shoreline, So it does take a while to navigate from one point to another on a pontoon boat. But what a beautiful unspoiled view you have as you cruise form one point to another. We hope to host your group again, the next time your travels bring you to Dale Hollow Lake.
