What makes this cottage unique

New to the rental market in 2013, located right along side the beautiful Mountain Fork River. This property is located only 1/4 of a mile from the nearest highway, yet it feels like you are away from everything. From the moment you enter the driveway, the beautiful landscape, woods, and river are the perfect combination for peace and relaxation.

This place is amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this very secluded house. The pictures don't do this place justice, as it is so picturesque and relaxing. You are close to Mena, AR and not too far from Broken Bow where we rented kayaks and floated the Mountain Fork River (yes the same river in your backyard when you stay here). I would recommend this property to anyone and plan on staying here again in the future.

Lovely get-a-way

The home was very nice and clean. It truly was secluded and was just what we were looking for. Only suggestion is to have internet provided. If you are looking to get away from everything and just relax, look no further.

Make sure you get the facts before booking

My husband & I are the types that get away to really spend time alone. We don't want to go out for every meal and we don't like spending our time shopping or doing touristy things. I chose this house for two VERY specific reasons, the river & the hot tub.

In our minds we were going to kayak, fish and enjoy late evenings in the hot tub. There was absolutely no other reason for me to chose this location. I was a little on the fence about it because of the cost -- this was more house than 2 people need. But like I said, we had in our minds what we wanted to do with our time and thought this would be perfect.

I am not at all familiar with this area so I didn't think about making sure the river had water in it until it was too late. I still didn't think it would be a deal breaker - we go to the Illinois river to kayak & fish all the time, even when the water level is low. But this was beyond low and even a kayak couldn't skim the water. Which meant no fishing either. We tried to walk upstream to find a hole where it might be deep enough but the rocks in the river bed were too hard to maneuver. (We are in our early 40's and in good shape). The river is where we planned to spend most of our time so this was a real bummer. :(

The hot tub is big and nice but far enough removed from the house that it quickly became a hassle to get a refill or use the bathroom. In colder weather you would freeze to death before making it back in the house so I suggest bringing a long warm robe along. In the rules book I found in the house it states that no discount will be given if the hot tub is not working properly. You better ask before booking if this is important to you.

The house is great and the privacy is amazing. The way we came in through GPS took us down several miles of dirt road but we discovered coming in through Hatfield is minimal dirt road. The smell of chicken houses was overwhelming when we first pulled into the drive but the wind was in our favor and I never smelled them at the house so I suspect its typically not a problem.

I would GLADLY stay again IF I knew the river was running properly so we could kayak and fish as we had planned. Nothing can ruin a vacation faster than being in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. I should have known better and asked about everything before booking because owners aren't going to willing offer this kind of information up. Again, the house is really nice and the privacy is great.

Owner's Response: Due to the fact that you felt like money and a free nights stay could be exchanged for a good review, it is not reasonable nor would be accepted by MFRR. We will not be accepting any future rental requests from you in regards to several costly issues that we acquired during your stay.
