Fantastic place to stay
This home was the perfect place for our Christmas trip. The host was very easy to communicate with, and the home is really cozy and spacious at the same time.
There's only tiny reasons it didn't get 5 stars:
1. It was very difficult to find at night. I feel like it could be marked better from the main road. Our GPS took us past it and we spent quite a bit of time trying to find the house. BUT, that also added to it's "hidden-away" charm!
2. The oven just does not work. It took 90 minutes to cook a frozen pizza. The oven will tell you it's up to temperature, but it's very, very wrong. It needs some serious adjustment.
3. The water smelled very bad of sulfur. I'm not sure that there's anything the host could do about this, but it is a really bad smell that made showering unpleasant.
But hey, you're getting away from it all, not glamping...so I still HIGHLY recommend this home!
Thank you for the great review. We will look into the oven and also the water. We do have a well and we have not experienced that smell or any smell similar to that. There are no yellow stains around any of the drains to show there is a problem. You are the first to let us know that you experienced this so we will definitely check that out. We had heard about the oven, but when we used it, it was just fine. We will check that out for sure also. We hope you will consider another vacation at our home in the future. Thank you and Happy New Year.
Secluded and Quiet
We really enjoyed our stay at this home. The area is very quiet, and quite secluded, even though there are neighbors right next door! The home was laid out perfectly for our extended family, with 6 adults and 2 children.
We enjoy boating and fishing on the lakes, and we're glad we also brought our canoe, as the channel is beautiful to explore! It was a little bit of a hassle with our fish and ski boat, but we knew going in, that we'd need to make adjustments. No fish to speak of, in the channel, or the first lake (Watersmeet), but we found some in one of the other lakes on the chain.
The home was clean and in good repair. The beds were all comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked, with everything you might need to prepare your meals.
The owner was more than accomodating and great with communication. He even called us the week before our arrival, to notify us of some damage that had been done by previous guests, and to assure us that he was aware, and would repair after our stay. This was a nice courtesy, and the damage did not interfere with our comfort or enjoyment at all. It's sad to me, that beautiful homes like this are not respected and taken care of by guests! :(
The only *small* issue we had was with internet. It was minimal at first, and then non-existent. Normally this would not be a problem for us at all - we all 'unplug' on vacation - however, I had needed to do some remote work, and was unable to complete it at the house. This just meant that a visit to the local coffee shop (Eagle River Roasters - great food, smoothies, and coffee!) was in order! :)
It's a very comfortable home, and there are plenty of linens and pillows - which is a nice thing! Soap and paper products are provided as well, which is also appreciated.
Perfect place for four generations of family to spend the week together!
Had the whole family fit all 10 of us comfortably we had a wonderful time. Our first time in eagle river loved the ease of being able to park pontoon at our location without having to pick up everyday. Craig was wonderful to work with and always available to make sure all was good. My sons are avid fisherman and both caught a Muskie so they were thrilled . We will definitely consider going back again!
Great House, secluded
The house was exactly as pictured: beautiful and clean. The firepit was very close to the house which made campfires very easy, the stairs to get down to the dock was very easy and safe. The one drawback was that by boat (when you eventually knew which way you were going), it took about an hour to get to the house from downtown, which means that you were kind of secluded on one side of the Chain. Driving to Eagle River took 5 minutes which was awesome, and you could barely see the neighbors house, which was good, but for exploring the chain, it was kind of a long ride. Also, the river was very weedy by the dock so it was impossible to fish off of. Otherwise the house itself was great!
Located 15 from St. Germain, Three Lakes and 30 minutes from Michigan border.
