Comfortable And Spacious Home In Horse Country

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Space 278 m²
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Three bedroom, 2 and half bath and located in a rural area.

The Dutch Barn is located about 2 miles East of Middleburg on a quiet country lane off State RT 50 and in the heart of Virginia's hunt country. The previous owner developed and used it as a small horse breeding operation and there are now 6 indoor stalls (of which 4 are available to guests, including an indoor wash station), a run-in shed, paddock, exercise ring and riding area. It is an excellent place to bring your horse(s) as there is plenty of opportunity to ride on the property, the scenic rural road and beyond.

The family owned farm house is connected to the stables, covers about 3,000 square feet of living space including 3 bedrooms, a great room including living, dining and kitchen, TV room, exercise room, and a reading room. All are tastefully decorated with a worldwide collection of antiques, arts and crafts. There are 2 full bathrooms, one having an indoor Jaccuzzi bathtub as well as a half bath in the reading room. All rooms are comfortably outfitted with plenty of closet space. There are quality linens and towels and everything is neat and clean. A large deck with a 6 person's spa (open from spring into fall) overlooks the Bull Run Mountains. At the bottom of the property is a farm pond with a swing bench. There is lots of open space to feel relaxed and it is all quiet and restful. There also is plenty of parking space, including for horse trailers.

The town of Middleburg is very charming to explore. The town itself has some renowned restaurants including Red Fox Inn, The French Hound and Julien's, the world class Salamander Resort and Spa, several boutiques, antique stores and a Safeway supermarket. Also the National Sporting Library is here and worth a visit. Within a mile distance you will find a Polo field and a high end horse riding facility and historic Aldie Mill and Oatlands are nearby. Many trips can be made to explore the hilly rustic country side with lots of beautiful properties where horses are kept. Other attractions are the many wineries, the State Arboretum of Virginia, the Skyline drive, Blue Ridge Mountains, and Luray Caverns.

Washington D.C. is about 45 miles away and Dulles International Airport about 20 miles or less than half an hour drive. Part of the Smithonian Air and Space Museum (Udvar-Hazy Center) showing the larger planes and space vehicles (including space shuttle Discovery), is located near the airport.

All in all enough to do and see to make this property your home away from home.

Awesome Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Dutch Barn. The owners were super nice and accommodating. They even offered to walk our dogs for us while we went to a wedding, we didn't accept but it was a king and generous offer. Our two children, their spouses and our two grandchildren all joined us. The area was beautiful, lots of places to walk and exceptional accommodations. A exercise room, hot tub, fireplace , the works. Highly recommend this property to all.

Fall Family Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at The Dutch Barn! The home was very comfortable for the 6 of us. Jan and Ina were gracious hosts and had thought of everything to make us feel right at home.

The bedrooms were roomy and the beds were very comfortable. Plenty of closet space was available for clothing and suitcases, and the bathrooms were well-appointed with rainfall shower heads, plenty of big fluffy towels, and robes. There is a fantastic exercise room with a view, and a hot tub on the deck. We had several nice family meals around the dining table. On one morning, there were deer right by the house and we all had a long look at them as they looked back at us.

We visited several wineries and vineyards nearby, and had good meals in downtown Middleburg. There are many historic buildings in and around town. There are several unique shops that rounded out our afternoon, too.

The scenery around the Dutch Barn is beautiful. We enjoyed the winding roads through horse country as we drove from our location to the wineries, and to an apple festival in Bluemont.

We highly recommend staying at the Dutch Barn, and hope to go back again soon. Thank you Jan and Ina for a wonderful stay!

This a comfortable, very spacious, clean, and well-maintained rental property

  • 4 of 5

Several members of my extended family stayed comfortably at this rental property, and many other family members joined us for breakfast and socializing in the very spacious living quarters. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay. The owners live nearby, and privacy seems to be their priority along with attentive hospitality.

We missed only two minor things: a spatula for turning eggs in the kitchen, and more clothes hanging facilities in the first floor bedroom closet.

Thanks for a great stay at the Dutch Barn

Lovely in every way.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at The Dutch Barn with Jan and Ina. Down a picturesque gravel road, the barn is peaceful, expansive and extremely spacious with pretty much everything you could need...even a hot tub! Jan and Ina's careers have taken them all over the world and The Dutch Barn reflects their travels and is decorated with all sorts of interesting things. It's also neat as a pin. The property itself is, lush, and serene...we we saw many deer, a few foxes and lots of birds. Jan and Ina are worldly, gracious and accommodating hosts and we enjoying talking with them. They had lots of good stories to tell, and Jan even has a cool tractor. My husband now has tractor envy. We will definitely stay again when we are in the area...which will be often! Thank you Jan and Ina...we loved it!

Owner's Response: Thank you Amy for this wonderful review and yes we enjoyed having you as our guests. You left early to miss the traffic but were back home in time to watch the full solar eclipse. That must have been an experience not quick to forget. Hope you will be back soon.

Warm, gracious hosts and home in beautiful horse country

  • 5 of 5

Jan and Ina were the perfect hosts! They were always quick to respond to our questions, accommodated a last-minute doggy addition, and personally ensured we knew our way around their cozy and spacious home. We especially enjoyed nights in the hot tub and mornings on the patio spotting fox and deer. If you're staying in Middleburg, we wholeheartedly recommend you take the opportunity to be their guests. Thank you, Jan and Ina!
