About Holly Bailey
Hello, we are Troy & Holly Bailey from New Virginia IA. We are transplants from Maryland that moved to this beautiful state in 2006. We dairy farmed in Maryland and moved to Iowa to partake in its more laid back, less crowded atmosphere and get our hands dirty with the rich black soil that covers the state.
Holly Bailey purchased this Barn in 2011
Why Holly Bailey chose Squaw
We needed a place for family and friends to stay when they came to visit so we turned our barn into a rustic hideaway that we thought others would enjoy too. And they do. The only complaints we get from our guest is that they don't want to leave.
What makes this Barn unique
The landscaping is always changing here between a field full of soybeans or corn to the north ,a pergola covered in blooming wisteria, or tulips everywhere in the spring, how about the smells of the lavender that draws the butterflies to its purple luster, the birds always singing a song in the bushes and vines as they make their way to vibrant red birdboxes filled with chirping babies. The trees that shade you on a hot day as you relax in your chaise and catch an afternoon nap. Maybe you all but fell asleep getting a massage outdoors while you take in all these sounds and smells. (we have a massuse that comes and gives massages here at the barn) in the winter you can curl up by the fireplace with your cocoa ,watch the sun rise while you sip your cup of joe, watch the stars twinkle above your head as you gaze out the sky lights ,catch up on movie time, remember what its like to relax and enjoy life.

Rural but not rustic, more like country chic!
This beautiful barn and garden site is very much an upscale accommodation that will give you peace and quiet any time of the day or night. The owners have provided not only a gorgeous facility but many small touches that make the place so pleasant. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathrooms are spacious, with plenty of hot water. I especially loved the hand held shower in the claw foot tub which was ample enough for enjoying a relaxing soak. The AC and ceiling fans kept it quite comfortable over one of the hottest weeks of the summer. Convenient to the covered bridges of Madison County and beautiful Winterset, IA, as well as to the Des Moines opera which performs in a concert hall on a college campus in nearby Indianola.
Relaxing, beautiful and spotless!
We just returned home after staying three nights at Bailey Farms and are already wanting to plan a return trip! The barn/home is super clean and very well-stocked with everything we needed, from kitchen items such as pots and pans, dishware, glassware, and utensils to bathroom items such as body wash, shampoos, and conditioners.
We loved the beds and sheets and hope to be able to use the cozy quilts when we return in cooler weather. There were lots of comfy places indoors to sit and read, play games, chat or watch t.v. We were getting away from television while we were there, but we used the Directv to listen to music when we were indoors. Then there’s the outdoors! There is a huge outdoor patio area for relaxing, having a campfire, grilling, and listening to the two waterfalls in the cleanest pond we’d ever seen. The landscaping is so pretty with lots of blooming flowers, shrubs and shade trees. While we were sitting by the pond late one afternoon, we saw a fox dart through quickly and run into the bean field. That was a fun surprise! Staying cool was never a problem with plenty of breeze, shade and even a ceiling fan in the wisteria-covered pergola. We kept thinking we’d have to break out the mosquito spray, but didn’t see one while we were there. Another thing that we appreciated while we were there was the privacy that we were allowed. Holly was just a text message away when we couldn’t find matches to light the tiki torches, but she quickly replied and told us where to find them. The online pictures of the barn and surroundings don’t do justice to what you’ll find when you arrive here. We have stayed in several Home-Away properties, and this is our all-time favorite! Thank you, Holly and Troy, for doing a great job in making Bailey Farms a wonderful place to stay!
What an absolutely perfect place to stay and get away from it all. This place is wonderful. The rental is the best vrbo we have ever used. The renters provide you with everything you can think of: Towels, soap, dishes, cooking utensils, cereal, snacks, firewood, hot dog/marshmallow sticks, etc. We could not be any happier with the experience we had here. The outside sitting area is so beautiful and well kept with flowers. Sitting and listening to the fountain was very nice. The only thing I will mention is that where you sleep is right next to the house where the owners live. There are plenty of trees that are between the two and we never felt like it was weird, just want to mention in case you want complete seclusion. We would happily rent this place over and over again! Thank you!
Beautiful, rustic, homey
This was a wonderful place for a fun and relaxing evening with my closest friends. The cabin was welcoming and the outdoor area was stunning, with a gorgeous pond and amazing landscaping. We loved every second of our time there.
Better Than Five Stars
I arrived after a long day of traveling to find I was staying in one of the most peaceful settings I have experienced. Holly has thought of everything. This space is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. The indoors was just as amazing as the outdoor setting. There is a wonderful kitchen with a large dinning table. The barn is perfect for a family gathering. You won't believe the attention to detail!
What a find!
My friend and I were looking for a place between Pella and Wintersett, IA. (Both are about an hour distance, but it is a relaxing drive.)
We saw this gem and decided to book. So glad we did. The barn was unique, tastefully decorated, actually decorated worthy of Country Living magazine. It was fully equipped, with the exception of a dishwasher. As it was early spring, the landscaping was not in full bloom. Yet, it was still quite pretty.
Our landlords live on property--it is a farm. Both were so friendly without being invasive.
I would highly recommend this property. I would easily return.
