Move in and make yourself at home for the week or weekend.

There are so many things to do in southwest Wisconsin and the driftless area. Enjoy Frank Lloyd Wright destinations like House on the Rock and Taliesin, along with the outdoor American Players Theater and great golf at The House on the Rock Golf Resort in Spring Green (only 15 minutes away).

Enjoy fishing? Richland County alone has over 270 miles of class I and class II trout stream. Along with the Wisconsin River and nearby fisheries, this area is the ultimate getaway. Within a 20 minutes drive, enjoy the Wisconsin River, Willow Creek, Bear Creek, Whitemound Lake, Ash Creek, Melancthon Creek and Mill Creek. If you want to drive a little farther, you can explore Blue River, Fennimore Fork, Black Earth Creek, West Fork of the Kickapoo River, Billings Creek and Devils Lake and State Park.

If golf is more your style, you can golf a different course every day of your stay with multiple courses all within a short drive. Visit The House on the Rock Golf Resort in Spring Green (15 minutes), The Baraboo Country Club, Baraboo (55 minutes), The Reedsburg Country Club, Reedsburg (40 minutes), Viroqua Hills Golf Course, Viroqua (45 minutes) and the West Brook Hills Golf Course in Plain (25 minutes).

The Akey Valley farmhouse is over 130+ years old. We offer great accommodations but please know it is NOT new construction. The home includes living room, dining room, sitting room, two bathrooms (both on the main level - there is not a bathroom upstairs) and fully equipped recently remodeled kitchen with wall oven, cook top, oversized refrigerator with French doors, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker and other small appliances like waffle maker, toaster and a tabletop George Forman grill. All cooking utensils, silverware and dishware are included and guests may bring in and prepare their own food. Bed linens and towels are provided. The house also includes a 26x26 great room addition that’s perfect for any gathering or activity with a larger group! We installed Wi-Fi at the house in October 2014. It has worked great for guests but know it's not super fast. Some things we don't have: cable or dish network (we do have a TV). We hope our guests enjoy the beautiful scenery of the settings and have a time to set back, relax and get away.

Area attractions within a half hour’s drive include: American Players Theater, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesen, the Spring Green Art Fair, The House on the Rock Golf Course, Tower Hill State Park, the lower Wisconsin River, the Morel (mushroom) Festival in Muscoda, the Fall Art Tour, Oakwood Fruit Farm, and the Mid-Continent Railway Museum. About Eric and Amy Lord

Eric and Amy Lord grew up in southwest Wisconsin, just miles from this property. Eric is a graduate of Ithaca High School, while Amy attended and graduated from Richland Center High School. Like many young adults, they couldn't wait to 'get out of town' after graduation and head to the big city. Well, they headed to the big cities of La Crosse and Madison and currently live in the small community of Black Earth. As they have gotten older, they realize how lucky they are to have the rural beauty of southwest Wisconsin at their fingertips and the big city conveniences of Madison.

Eric is a personal training at Core Health and Fitness specializing in corrective movement and injury prevention. He was voted the 'Madison's Best' winner personal trainer in 2013, 2014, and 2015 by Madison Magazine. Amy is the Development Director at The River Food Pantry, Dane County's busiest food pantry serving over 600 families each week free groceries, hot meals, clothing, and household goods.

Eric and Amy love the outdoors! You will find them hiking and snowshoeing (depending on the season), kayaking and gardening. They enjoy volunteering with the Ice Age Trail and United Way. The long term goal for Akey Valley is to invite guests to not only enjoy country living, but also enjoy planned activities for guests to be active and sustainable.

Eric and Amy Lord purchased this farmhouse in 2013

Why Eric and Amy Lord chose Wisconsin

A short history lesson: The Akey Valley home was built is 1879 by Lemuel Akey. He brought is young family to the area from Ohio. The Akey family lived and prospered in Richland County for many years and moved to what is now Richland Center in 1890. The house and acreage was purchases by the Pauls family from Lemuel Akey and remained in their family until 2013.

The 130+ year old farm house has character around ever corner. There was an addition in 1985 and a kitchen remodel in 2011, and but the true guts of the home remained true to character. As soon as you enter the home, you are in awe of the grander and majestic features of yesteryear. It is a beautiful property and we hope others will enjoy and appreciate the personality it still has today.

Beautiful home. Beautiful property. Awesome stay, away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

Decided to host our yearly family reunion at Akey Alley. Historic farmhouse was beautiful with more than enough space for parents and kids. The property owner's parents, Marilyn and Bill, were an added bonus. In addition to being delightful company, they offered a bit of history and insight into the area as well tractor rides and hay bailing for the kids. During our stay the Wifi didn't work but we were having such a great time no one missed it. Nearby Richland Center offers restaurants and a great public pool. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go back.

Great place in the country

  • 5 of 5

We were 4 adults and a 5 year old, and had plenty of room with one bedroom not even used. The place is very well equipped, with a modern kitchen. We loved the charm of the old farmhouse but appreciated the up-to-date kitchen. Being right in the country was fun for all of us, especially the 5 year old. Lots of things to do in the area -- great place for a family reunion. Highly recommended.

Ladies Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Four retired teachers decided to venture up to House on the Rock and explore SW Wisconsin. This location was PERFECT. We each had our own bedroom, 2 bathrooms to share, and plenty of space. The view from the porch and back of the house was ethereal. We returned each day, after exploring another area of the region, to relax, share a bottle of wine, and prepare a delicious dinner. We used the grill that was provided for some locally bought brats, and even enjoyed a campfire behind the house one night. The host's father even gave us a private tour of the one room school house museum that was across the street from the house. This was the perfect place and met all our needs...close to attractions, plenty of small towns to explore, good selection of restaurants, a quiet peaceful retreat, and a place to make great memories.

Beautiful spot to relax

  • 5 of 5

This home is comfortable, full of character, with lots of space for dining, games, and good conversation. The kitchen is modern, and well-equipped. This property is the perfect spot for a quiet "getaway weekend" with friends. We enjoyed a tour of Taliesen and a Friday night trout dinner at the Driftless Depot in nearby Spring Green.
