Front row views of Zihua's beautiful bay

  • 5 of 5

Just spent an entire month at Casa el Conde. The house (and it's staff) exceeded all expectations. Elsa (the owner) took every opportunity to make our trip memorable. We mentioned to staff one evening that we were looking for a "crockpot" to prepare a special dish. The next day we were surprised to find one in the kitchen. Elsa had sent someone down to the market (unbeknownst to us) to pick one up. Over the years we have stayed at several of the homes surrounding Zihua's picturesque bay. Casa el Conde is the top of the food chain. The views, furnishings, bedding are all five star. I can not articulate properly how special this place is. Truly special....

Breathtaking!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, wow, wow! That is basically all I said as I entered the front door when we all (10 total) arrived to celebrate our long-time friend's 50th birthday. It was difficult to decide which room was "the best" because they all were pretty spectacular. I really loved the décor of the house as it wasn't the traditional "Spanish" décor but it had an African theme. In each room, Elsa (the owner) had a book explaining the story of how she chose this décor. Loved it! The pool was relaxing and clean. There were always plenty of clean towels to use while hanging out in the pool or just laying down soaking in the sun and beautiful scenery.

The staff was awesome too. It was great to have the opportunity to use my Spanish that I had been taught many years ago. Some may find the language barrier a challenge, but I personally like experiencing the culture of where I am visiting. The staff and our group all did a fine job communicating, so we had no problems. I would recommend utilizing the cook and staff (Diana and Jessie) to prepare the meals while staying. The table was always decorated beautifully whether it was for breakfast or for dinner. (We did our own thing for lunch) I personally felt that the meals we had at the house were better than any of the places we went to in town. Juanita and Rosario, the housekeeping staff, were like little fairies coming in and cleaning the rooms each morning. I always wondered how and when they got in to clean the rooms, but the bed was always made and fresh towels were placed in the bathrooms without us ever seeing them! Nestor, the house manager, was also very good about offering help whenever needed and always with a smile!

I am sorry to say, but I would have been completely happy staying at the house the whole week! We did go to La Ropa beach for the day and into town for a few trips to the store, but I longed to be back at El Conde, sitting by the pool and looking at the beautiful view. (Oh! I almost forgot! They had a telescope that we could look at boats and people in the water which was very cool the morning of the fishing derby!)

If you want to experience a relaxing time and feel like you are in a 5-star place, make your plans to come here. You will not be disappointed!

Little piece of Paradise !!!

  • 5 of 5

I'm not sure where to start. From the beginning of booking the villa through our departure, Elsa was extremely responsive and helpful in setting everything up and working out the details. The house is absolutely breathtaking!!!! The minute you walk through the gate you can see the pride in ownership and stunning beauty this house offers. Each room is decorated with such attention to detail and offers complete privacy for the guests. Our biggest hurdle of the week was deciding on which room to choose as they are all so beautiful. Her staff is absolutely wonderful. Nestor, the house manager watches over everything to ensure a seemless visit. Juanita and Rosario work so hard behind the scenes keeping the villa spotless and keeping the rooms fully stocked. We had Diana and Jessie to cook for us and would recommend them over and over again. Of all the meals we had while in Zihuatanejo the ones we had cooked by Diana and Jessie were the best. They created a different masterpiece each night with the table setting and the food presentation, it was beyond compare. Elsa and Chuck, thank you so much for opening up your beautiful home and letting us enjoy a little piece paradise ♥️

Don't think twice, BOOK IT!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, this place is absolutely breathtaking. We visited Casa El Conde after raving reviews from friends and were so thankful we did. From the moment you enter the gated neighborhood, you feel like you're in a movie. The entrance into the home feels like a dream. The open layout and beautiful thoughtful decor makes you never want to leave. I typically like to explore a lot when I'm on vacation but I had a hard time wanting to leave the home. The rooms are so peaceful and relaxing. So pretty! The outdoor bathrooms are dreamy. The staff was so sweet and made us delicious food and even freshened up the space with new floral bouquets each day.I could go on and on about all the things I loved about this home. We hope to be able to go back soon.

Less than adequate

  • 1 of 5

We encountered many non-working bulbs, fans, room safes, TVs, and spotty internet. Bathrooms aren't air conditioned and 2 bathrooms are outside, meaning you must use toilets, brush teeth, ..., while swatting flies, lizards and other unwanted pests, in high humidity. The pool was cold and nearly unusable because of a broken heater.

Stairs were a big issue. We weren't told about the number of stairs. From street level, you must walk down 31 stairs to the landing level, 17 more stairs to bedroom 1, and 22 and 26 more stairs, respectively, to the other bedrooms. It's 12 stairs from the landing to the dining area. One in our group was handicapped which made walking the stairs painful. Another fell down the ill-lit stairs one night, head first. There are 60 MORE stairs, many without a handrail, from the last bedroom to the jagged rocks 12 feet above the sea. From the rocks to the ocean is treacherous. One of our group got multiple sea urchin stings trying to make the jump from the rocks, which we were assured was completely safe. None of the rest of our even took the chance of walking the jagged rocks.

We were told the staff was new, having replaced the former staff, fired for stealing, making the lack of working safes alarming. Only once in 7-days did the staff lock the front door. The house included a staff of 6; 4 as part of our rental and 2 hired by owner at our expense to cook meals. That none of the 6 spoke English was problematic. The staff was clearly undertrained. We had to constantly ask for things we were told would happen seamlessly, from laundry being done to fungibles such as bottled water, Coke, etc. being replaced to food purchased but never offered. Even the laundry service was poor, with multiple items of clothing ruined because of bleach use on colored items, while other items came back torn.

As to food, we were told certain items would be included in daily menus but promises went by the wayside. Meals were sparse and portions meager. Some of our group developed stomach ailments, likely because of unsanitary food preparation, non-refrigeration and ever-present insects.

Lastly, you might wonder whether we expected too much. A fair question but I suggest for the money spent (nearly $2,000/day plus funds for two food preparers, food and beverages), we should have received a stress-free, nearly flawless, 'dream' vacation. Even at half that price, we would have expected none of the issues described above.

Gorgeous MonteCristo Private Estate "El Conde"

  • 5 of 5

This is probably one of the nicest homes I've ever stayed in. The house is almost like a maze, it's so grandiose and spacious, and not to mention gorgeous. The views, the pool, the staff, the movie room, everything is absolutely stunning. My party and I literally stayed in the pool the whole time looking out into the crystal blue water. (Did I mention they have a 3 tiered infinity pool ?!?!?) You are far enough away from all the tourists' (thank goodness). The palapa, the grand entrance, the kitchen, the grounds, and the VIEWS are to die for. I would recommend renting a yacht one day, they'll pick you up in front of the house by the private beach. Every single attention to detail was spot on. The owner, Elsa, is so so nice and extremely helpful with any and all questions. Probably one of my favorite trips in my life. We would come back in a heart beat....Highly Recommend
