3 couples traveling together - beautiful home, awesome view
Our group really enjoyed the stay. The concierge was very responsive and willing to schedule anything we needed. Steep driveway, the walk-up will certainly get your blood flowing for the day!
This is such a beautiful villa and the property management was outstanding......does not disappoint. Maria was fantastic and having a chef one evening was delicious!! She even cooked the mahi mahi we caught that day :-) Must give a little heads up that it is a trek on a steep incline getting to street level from the villa even if you are in decent shape. Most cabs will not drop off or come to get you esp. if it is raining. Bedroom on the top floor is fab with beautiful views but the stairs are steep and narrow.....might be challenging after cocktails.
CalaLuna was Awesome!
We spend 5 days at CalaLuna, and it was a spectacular property for a nice getaway with our 3 kids (aged 15+). Some random thoughts:
1. Great location and walking distance for restaurants, small supermarket and the beach. Can take bus ($0.60 per person) to beach and Nat'l park very easily (we walked once to beach...downhill and wasn't too long/hard).
2. We had several dinners and breakfasts cooked in the home from the recommended chefs. Prices were reasonable and were below estimate
3. AC in the bedrooms was great!
4. Internet was adequately speedy. Not accessible by the pool or some rooms
5. Pool was great, very clean and refreshing
6. Communication with concierge (Thomas) before trip was great. He set up transportation from airport, and our excursions
7. Maria (our concierge during our time there) was great and was available as needed (which wasn't much)
8. We did the ATV tour and Zipline at Midwood at the rec of Thomas. We did on seperate days and loved both.
9. We did the boat cruise and snorkeling on day. Nice ride. The snorkeling was not good, but think it was the time of year..but we are also spoiled. The water wasn't very clear.
10. The views from the house are amazing!
11. One day we have monkeys all around the pool in back yard and even a sloth, which was moving in very clear view near the pool
12. The drive was about 2:45 from the main airport, which wasn't too bad, mostly good roads
13. Driveway is steep, so can be tough if not physically capable...wasn't terrible though
14. Overall, felt very safe
15. Would come back!!
Villa CalaLuna is an amazing villa in a beautiful part of the world.
My family and I had a fantastic holiday staying in Villa CalaLuna. It’s location in a rainforest is amazing and the views down to the sea are breathtaking. We saw so much wildlife!
The villa itself is stunning and extremely spacious, just as the photos all show. All the bedrooms are air conditioned and the huge fans in the living areas keep the villa cool. However there are several steep staircases some without handrails so it’s definitely not a villa for a family with young children.
We walked to several excellent restaurants nearby and the beautiful beach in Manuel Antonio was a 15 minute stroll away. (A taxi ride back though as it’s all up hill!) Thomas was very helpful throughout our holiday and he organised several tours for us. He also arranged for us to dine in the villa on two evenings which were a great success.
As a group we would recommend the guided tour of the National Park, the horse riding trip and the white water rafting trip; all were very well organised and great fun.
We all had a great time and would highly recommend the villa and Manuel Antonio
We really loved our stay and would visit again. Thomas made it so easy and answered all our questions. My gratitude to him.
The location is wonderful. The view is great.
The house itself needs a bit of help. All the appliances are tired; the mattresses are not so good and the sheets could use an up-date.
Lovely house with spectacular view
We were a group of 4 adults and a 5-1/2 year old who stayed 6 nights at this lovely home. The main point of our visit was to celebrate Thanksgiving day in a foreign country which involved cooking a turkey dinner with all the makings. Although difficult, we were able to acquire all the makings. There is one American store in Quepos called Mini Price where I was able to find the more difficult items that I needed.
The home is quite nice and very different in it's floor plan. The top floor with the lovely black tiled shower has no air conditioning which was a problem for the couple staying in that room. There were screens instead of windows at the top of the room which made it hard for them to sleep late in the morning with all the animal noises, which were mostly squawking birds, not howler monkeys.
The room at the bottom was next to the living room and did have air conditioning and was comfortable. The lowest room with the 2 queen beds was accessed by a spiral staircase and was the coolest room. This room also had an adequate air conditioner.
Thomas, the concierge met my son at a restaurant upon arrival and directed him to the villa. The tiny one-lane drive to the villa is VERY STEEP and narrow and quite difficult to maneuver especially at the top (I'm not sure if there is any comments on this small drive in Homeaway). Both my daughter and I were not willing to attempt this road!! This road to the home is also very hard to see when coming from the main road and also to see approaching cars.
One thing that I would have liked was more accessibility to Thomas, the concierge. We only saw him once the entire stay which may be fine for some people but it's nice to have someone check in soon after arrival. Thomas came the first morning but only because the gas tank was empty. He was prompt in getting that fixed with the caretaker but never really came in and asked if there was anything else that was needed, including booking excursions. We were basically on our own for that.
One thing that I was not happy about were the phones at the villa. One of the burners on the gas stovetop was not working correctly and didn't light up but the igniter kept clicking. I tried many times to call Thomas on this phone but it was not working correctly (I did not have cell coverage). It never got fixed and we had to unplug the stove overnight to get it to stop.
We all had a great stay at Villa CalaLuna and would definitely recommend it!
The diversity of the area provides those seeking serenity with inspirational views of the Pacific Ocean from the elevation of a tropical rain forest hillside. Conversely, the area provides those seeking adventure with World Class Sport-fishing, Whitewater Rafting, Jungle Canopy Zip-lining, and many other activities. The Villa is located within casual walking distance of many restaurants, coffee shops, souvenir shops and bars.
