About Steven and Lynn Wren

After searching the Pacific Northwest for the perfect place to hang our hats in retirement we found Bend offered the places and spaces for all of the outdoor and cultural activities we enjoy. Even better, all of these places are within an hours drive. The town offers our favorite beverages, excellent restaurants, and entertainment all a short walk from our historic home. The idea of walking and biking to escape the constant need of a car was high on our priority list. We are fortunate to have found the place, Bend, and the space, our Wren's Nest to enjoy for many years. We are delighted to share what we enjoy with others. Even the drive over the Cascade Range to sunny Bend is the beginning of our scenic adventure.

If we are not hiking, Nordic skiing, kayaking, biking, or exploring the high desert, we are enjoying the culture and festivities Bend offers. There is always entertainment or adventure just outside, a short walk or ride from our door.

Why Steven and Lynn Wren chose Old Bend

Location, location, location. We wanted to downsize and live in a comfortable home in the heart of Bend. That we found a solid, comfortable, historic property made this choice of home even more special. To be located on a quiet, neighborhood street just steps from all the town of Bend has to offer sealed the deal.

What makes this bungalow unique

The mill house is located in a designated Historic District of Bend. All dwellings and businesses within this district are required to retain the turn-of-the-century exterior conditions when improving a property. This home's stacked lava rock foundation, original fir wood floor and other vintage details of the era are retained along with updates to interior spaces.

Charming, clean and great location

  • 5 of 5

Wren’s Nest is small and quaint. It was the perfect home for my family recently while visiting Bend for the Oregon Classic lacrosse tournament. The home was clean and exceptionally well stocked with everything we needed including cooking basics in the kitchen, plenty of quality cookware and small appliances and Tupperware perfect for packing picnics. The beds, linens and furniture were comfy and the updated decor, lighting and creative storage made the small space very accommodating. Unfortunately due to limited down time we didn’t get to use the backyard much except for a few minutes with coffee in the morning but the space is lovely with plenty of seating. The location really can’t be beat. We walked to breakfast at Jackson’s Corner and into downtown and to Drake Park multiple times. The booking process from the beginning was easy and communication was excellent. We have rented many homes while on vacation and I must say this was overall the best. Everything about the Nest upon arrival made us feel welcomed (including our dog) as guests. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We frequent Bend during the summers and this year are planning a visit in the winter and will definitely book Wren’s Nest again.

Owner's Response: We truly appreciate the thoughtful and informative review of our home in Bend. Because of these two reasons we enjoy repeat bookings from prior guests. We have a wonderful self employed cleaner who stays in close communication. She is amazing with an eye for detail. We could not run our home the same without her. The second, we love to visit Bend and stay in our home frequently too, we want for our guests what we want for ourselves; well stocked, clean and ready to enjoy the local scene steps from our door when we arrive. Thanks again and hope to see you back again soon. Lynn and Steven Wren

Perfect for us

  • 5 of 5

Just a perfect stay for us. Wrens’ Nest’s location in the city’s inviting, laid-back, Old Bend district is within walking distance of things ranging from downtown’s “Main Street” area (actually Wall St. etc) to the local Market of Choice. The cottage itself has been rehabbed with modern appliances, fixtures, cabinet work (we particularly liked the inlaid wood peninsula counter/bar) HVAC, etc—while maintaining the charm of the old mill cottage. The enclosed backyard was perfect for our dog; the supplied cookware, dishes etc (even condiments) were attractive and generous; the TV, DVD (incl some discs) and bluetooth speaker were good; the arrival and close-up information clear and complete. Yeah, we’ll be back!
