About Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg
Dr. Joy Falkenburg and her husband, Matt Brown, have lived in the Black Hills since 1999. In 2013, they purchased the Little Red Inn and opened it for use as a vacation home the following year. They reside next to Custer State Park with their family and enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Black Hills and all it has to offer all year long. They are locally available to give advice and help with needs that may arise.

Why Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg chose Custer
We live just down the road from the Little Red Inn. It had been for sale and every time we drove by we thought about buying it and opening it up for vacationers to enjoy when they stayed in the Black Hills. It is in a beautiful location and is close enough to both Custer and Custer State Park to be the perfect spot for people who are visiting the Hills. The granite outcroppings east of Custer and Calamity Peak are just across the road from the Little Red Inn. Calamity Peak is one of the most photographed granite peaks in the Hills. It is fantastic in any season. The snow falling on the granite outcroppings is incredibly beautiful and the green grass and quietness of the Hills are soothing. I love the two areas of the house where adults can sit and visit but kids could watch TV at night in the lower level. I like to be able to visit with my family when I travel and put kids to bed if need be. Also, kids need a space to run and play. This offers a safe place for them to play and enjoy the outdoors.

We loved it!
Staying at The Little Red Inn was the best stay our family has had in years. Our kids loved running around the large yard and feeding the cows. Joy was so nice and met us at check-in. If you need a quiet place to unplug, relax and enjoy a beautiful spot, you’ll enjoy The Little Red Inn. It felt like home!
Quiet and Peaceful
Enjoyed our stay at the Little Red Inn. Property was centrally located to all the sights we wanted to see. Mount Rushmore, Hole in the Wall, Crazy Horse, Bad Lands, Wall Drug.
Owners were very responsive when we had questions.
We had a great time!
We were ready to slow down for a bit and this property was perfect! We enjoyed relaxing by the fire pit in the evening and morning coffee on the deck. The property is just outside of Custer, SD which made it a perfect location for day excursions around the area. The beds were comfy and everything was very clean. The kitchen is stocked with the necessary equipment if you want to cook a meal too. If we are headed back this way in the future, we will stay again!
This was the perfect place for our family to spend time together. The Little Red Inn was immaculate and well stocked with what we needed. I loved the décor of chickens as I have a blog on Wordpress called The Chicken Grandma. Even my sons remarked on how cool that was! Thank you for having us.
A perfect escape in a quiet part of Custer, close to Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse. We especially enjoyed watching the bison from the wildlife loop in Custer State Park, a must see!
Thanks for everything, we loved it here
Beautiful place to stay 🦌🦌
Abundant wildlife with deer out everywhere
Easy trip to Custer
Comfortable environment in home
Soooo much better than a hotel
Ideally located three miles from Custer and two miles from Custer State Park, we are centrally located to all your Black Hills activities, including Wind Cave, the Needles Highway, Mt. Rushmore, Sylvan Lake, Crazy Horse, Hill City, Keystone, Custer State Park, the Mickelson Trail, Custer, Rapid City and Iron Mt. Road. The Little Red Inn has fenced pasture that commonly holds my miniature pony, Buttercup, or our milk cow, Jello and Beezie.
For hunters, wildlife enthusiasts, and fishermen, opportunities abound! You are likely to see whitetail deer, wild turkey, elk, coyotes, and the occasional mountain lion on or around the property. Stockade and Bismark Lake are just over the hill and provide opportunity for fly and traditional line fishing for trout, perch, crappie, bass, northern, and sunfish. Buffalo also roam just minutes away in Custer State Park.
Custer city hosts the annual Buffalo Roundup, The CrazyHorse Volksmarch, Gold Discovery Days, The Oldtime Country Fair for the 4th of July, Custer Cruisin and a variety of other fun festivals. Gorgeous in the summer with green grass and mild temperatures. Lovely white snow falling on granite outcroppings in the winter. It is the perfect getaway for the family at the holidays. Fall can't be beat with the aspens turning colors and the Buffalo Roundup in Custer State Park.
