|Minimum Stay||3 - 5 nights|
Through the separate entrance room you enter the one room cottage and take in the views into the landscape and onto volcano Hekla. The bright room has a double door onto the deck and large windows. The kitchenette functions well and you can enjoy the view onto Hekla from the dining table. The separate bathroom has a shower and WC. Up the 'chicken ladder' and you reach the open sleeping loft with 2 low beds (made up as a double unless requested as 2 singles): it is cozy here and in wintertime you can look straight out into the night sky and - with a little luck!- enjoy the NORTHERN LIGHTS! The ladder and sleeping loft are not secure for small children!
The sofa downstairs pulls out into a bed (140cm wide). Around the house are open countryside and horse pastures. You have your own piece of Iceland here! (The other cottage Bjalli is 700m away and cannot be seen from here.)
Information on day trips provided!

On our land we also have horses, an outbuilding and our home, all generously spaced out for privacy and views.

In winter you can see NORTHERN LIGHTS!
Originally german, I have lived here in Iceland since 2000 with my icelandic husband, icelandic dog, chickens and horses! We love our home and we enjoy sharing our knowledge and experiences of Iceland and our area with you. Originally I came here because of horse riding and today I feel at least as icelandic as anything else! I am looking forward to welcoming you in the country I chose to be my home!
Maja Siska purchased this house in 2005
Nordurnes and Bjalli are each situated on their own in spectacular landscape: a cosy retreat with views onto horse pastures and mountains, volcanos and glaciers. And all that in an ideal location for trip to the sights of south Iceland, into the highlands and out for riding tours in summer… and the hour drive to Reykjavik ( 80km) over the pass Hellisheidi is always a scenic experience.
The atmosphere in Nordurnes and Bjalli is very peaceful and you are in touch with nature and the surrounding landscape. The idyllic setting with its views onto volcano Hekla and the mountains keeps surprising you! The next pool and the next riding stable is only 7km away.
We stayed for 3 nights at this property over December, hoping to get an original winter experience in Iceland. The stay exceeded our expectation in all aspects. Everything we saw, hear, felt dazzled us (including the northern lights on the last night of our stay!). The house was cozy and had all the possible amenities we needed. On top of that, our host Maja not only provided the cozy house but also travel advices, weather warnings and other information that perfected our stay. Thank you, Maja! To future travellers: come stay here!
The Baja house was very welcoming, warm, and well-lit upon our late night arrival. This very small holiday house was tastefully decorated and just the right size for our honeymoon stay. The home owner was very accommodating and friendly, ensuring that our stay was going well and even offered recommendations for local tourist activities. Her Icelandic horses (on property) were also very sweet. Not a luxury home, but very comfortable stay. The location was beautiful, and the cottage was well-priced, clean, and overall we had a very lovely stay. Only recommendation - I would suggest adding full railings on the loft bedroom, to protect sleep-walking prone husbands from a potential in-advertant fall in the middle of the night :-)
We spent 3 nights in Nordurnes in early November. We had a wonderful time. Maja gave us excellent recommendations about places to visit and eat. The cottage is warm , and had all the equipment we needed. Iceland was amazingly beautiful despite the rain and mist and we were snug and warm in Nordurnes as the gales raged outside. We hope to visit again very soon.
We loved our stay, Maja was great from the moment we booked providing information and advice. The location is stunning, we saw incredible northern lights on the 1st night and the accommodation is comfortable and cosy, as well as being well equipped. You are incredibly secluded and it is quite a drive from anywhere. We loved that but worth bearing in mind. We will definitely be going back.
Maja was amazing with her detailed description of local options. The house was clean, had everything we needed and so so quiet. The only thing we were missing were the Northern Lights. But I guess you can't have everything. I would come back here in a heartbeat. Great locaiton, great host and great house!
Maja was a tremendous host. I can't recommend Nordurnes highly enough -- it was the perfect, idyllic cabin. The location is great for exploring South Iceland, and the views and property are incredible.
The cottage is in an idyllic & quiet setting approx. 14km from the main ring road nr.1. In 7 km you can reach the next swimming pool and also a very good riding stable (www.herridarholl.is). This is an ideal starting point for all sightseeing in the south of Iceland. Information on trips are in the house: 1. Golden Circle: Geysir, Gullfoss,Thingvellir, 2. Blue Lagoon & coastal road, 3. Skogar waterfall & farm museum, Vik & black beach, bird cliffs, 4. Hekla museum, Thjofafoss waterfall, along the foot of the highlands to the replica of one of the first settlements on Iceland, archeological site Stöng. 5. There is a new ferry harbour (65km away) and you can be in the WESTMAN ISLANDS within 30 min ferry ride. Detailed information in the house!
IN summer you can take a day trip with the highland bus to the hot springs at Landmannalaugar (dep. Hella) or to Thorsmörk.
Eyjafjallajökull & volcano Hekla and more can be seen from our land on a clear day! Northern Lights approx. Sep. - Apr
Golf: There is a 18 hole link course near Hella and a 9 hole golf course in Selfoss. Both approx. 30 min. drive from the house.
