This lovely villa is situated in South West France, in a lovely area of the Western Dordogne, close to the towns of Bergerac, Duras and Eymet and one hour drive east of Bordeaux. It is only six hours driving time from the port of St Malo.
It is a wonderful location for golfers as is only five minutes from Château Vigiers, one of the best golf resorts in France which also has a 1 Star Michelin restaurant. Our guests receive a 30% discount on golf rounds at Vigiers. We have trolleys/bags/clubs for our guests to enable them to fly rather than drive, if they choose to.
The nearest large town is Bergerac, twenty minutes north east of the house. Bergerac is a Medievel town which is fascinating to explore with a Tobacco Museum and Wine Museum. Visitors can also take river cruises on the Dordogne river in a traditional boat.
Bordeaux is an easy 1 hour drive or a short train ride from St Foy la Grande, just 15 minutes away. Bordeaux has a world beating Wine Museum called the Cite Du Vin which a unique museum dedicated to the wine culture. Bordeaux also has fantastic shopping and restaurants.
Arcachon and the Atlantic coast is a 90 minute drive. Visit the famous Dune De Pyla, the largest sand dune in Europe and eat oysters in Arcachon Bay with a chilled glass of white wine.
All our guests enjoy Famille Moutier for a traditional Perigordine Sunday lunch. It is a 4 hour experience for 38€ with all wines included. Just a 10 minute cycle or 2 minute drive away.
The local, friendly restaurant of Relais de Monestier is also a great place to eat with 2 courses for 16€ and carafes of local village wine. Monestier is just a 5 minute drive.
The Sunday morning market at Issigeac, a medieval village is a wonderful experience where with the locals you can buy oysters, foes gras, the sweet white wine of Monbazillac and local vegetables from farmers in the surrounding villages.
Our guests really enjoy local wine tasting and we have close links with 3 local vineyards.
1. Chateau Feely is an award winning organic, biodynamic vineyard, where Caro and Sean will welcome you warmly.
2. Chateau Lestevenie was recently televised on Channel 4 - New Lives in The Sun. Humphrey will show you around his vineyard where rare, wild orchids grow.
3. Chateau Thenac in the village where Caroline will guide you through the magnificent wines and where you must try the Plum Eau de Vie.
Our guests also enjoy wine tasting in Ste Emilion, a world Heritage Unesco Site. Tracey can recommend where to taste wine in the village and also the best places to have lunch.
All the local villages have colourful markets. Out of season there are also speciality markets including truffles and walnuts.
There is a buddist retreat also close by, Plum Village, and our guests are always welcome to visit to share lunch with the monks and sisters or to share in a meeting.

Additional Golf information - Tee times can be booked by Tracey, the owner and advice given on courses, locally and further afield. Acabanes is only five minutes from Chateau des Vigiers, one of the best golf resorts in France. Donald Steel (designer of the Forest of Arden championship course) is considered to be one of the very best 'natural' golf course architects, created this unique 18-hole, par 72 course in its enthralling setting amidst plum trees, oak woods, lakes and vineyards. Donald, who has contributed to many world-famous courses such as the Jubilee and Eden courses at St. Andrews as well as Chantilly in France, designed the course with the Château as its centrepiece; the 9th and 18th finishing off in front of the Château; and many of the other undulating greens with different perspectives of the Château. When asked by Golf World to name his favourite hole from his long career, Donald chose N° 18 at Château des Vigiers, with its dogleg over a ridge for the second shot over the lake on to the green, in front of the Château. Subsequently it was described in Golf World under the heading 'Vintage Finale'. Château des Vigiers' course is maintained as a holiday course with short rough, promoting quick play and accessibility for higher handicaps. However, the greens are frequently lightning fast and prove a test for any golfer. With strategic pin positions and longer rough, the course can be turned into a challenge for the best golfer.

About Tracey Jones
I have lived in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England since 1994. This is where our children also grew up and is our family home. Our daughter lives in Cape Town with her husband and our son live in the Dordogne, France. Although we live many miles apart we manage to have family get togethers often, thanks to Air Miles and being self employed! Many of our guests hire Acabanes for special family reunions and we understand the importance of how special these holidays are.
Tracey Jones purchased this villa in 2000
Why Tracey Jones chose Thenac
We decided to purchase Acabanes in 1999 after enjoying many special holidays in this region while the children were young. We have travelled all over the world but genuinely believe that this area of the Dordogne is magical. It is very peaceful and relaxing, but there are also many activities to participate in, including, wine tasting, golf, go karting, canoeing, walking, cycling, restaurants. The region also has fantastic weather and is wonderful to visit at any time of the year. I will help plan your holiday so that you need not find any part of it stressful, including the travel, overnight accommodation, golf tee times, restaurant reservations, special occasion meals, groceries bought for arrival - the list is endless and I am here to help you!
What makes this villa unique
We chose Acabanes due to the peaceful surroundings and single track lanes that make it perfect for walking and cycling. However, it is not isolated and you can reach great attractions very easily and quickly. Please contact me as I can offer complimentary assistance to ensure your holiday is perfect for you and your fellow travellers.
