POMONA is a traditional estate situated in the heart of the Chianti countryside, near the ancient city of Siena. The oldest buildings of the farm date back to the 1750s. The estate maintains its original structure and still comprises the residential villa, farmhouses, storehouses and the winery. This is what makes it fascinating even today – it conveys a real impression of a traditional Tuscan country estate, surrounded by gardens, olive groves and vineyards. In addition to producing wine and olive oil, the family now runs a small holiday business based in the old villa, following the principles of sustainability and eco-friendly solutions. The villa is surrounded on three sides by a large courtyard shaded by three century-old Lebanon cedars. Embedded in the orchards and gardens and surrounded by olive and fruit trees guest can enjoy a swimming pool offering spectacular views over the rolling hills. Two apartments with independent entrances are available for rent.
Pomona is a working farm that produces organic extra virgin olive oil and Chianti Classico wine which are available for tasting and purchase.
We spent six weeks at Pomona. The welcome and hospitality we received from Inge, Monica and Enrico was wonderful. Pomona is beautiful, a working vineyard and olive grove very close to the charming town of Castellina. The apartment, Limonaia, is rustic and very dark, very good for hot weather, but a little gloomy if the weather is bad, but it has an open fire which we enjoyed. We loved our time at Pomona and plan to return next year! Thank you. If there are any suggestions it would improve things if the kitchen equipment was more modern. If you are looking for a modern, up to date apartment this is not for you but if it is an authentic, welcoming, rustic and utterly real place to rest and get to know this beautiful area then this is it. The pool is lovely and the views around the farm are stunning and the sunsets spectacular. We will see you next year.
We stayed for a week in Pomona and enjoyed our stay completely. The hospitality of Monica and her mother, Mrs. Raspi is great - we where welcomed with a "Fiasco" of a wonderful Chianti Classico. Kind people with a big heart for nature and their wine. It was exciting to walk with Monica through the vineyard and talk to her about her passion. A highlight was the bottling of the wine ...
The apartment "Limonaia" is very large and with everything set up what you need. Only the water pressure and temperature of the hot water (shower) is small. WiFi can be received only in the vicinity of the host house. But this is no problem, the location, the surroundings and the countless occasions for excursions compensate for these small defects. We recommend this farmhouse "Villa Pomona" from all of our heart!
We stayed in Villa Pomona for 1 week with 2 families. It was lovely! The owners are friendly and make you feel real welcome. The pool is perfect! The garden is more than beautiful. The wine and olive oil is delicious. The rooms are big and the furniture is rustique. Siena and other Tuscany highlights are in the area. We will hire this villa again!
The owners / our hosts (Monica, Inga, and Enrico) were wonderful. They made sure our stay was comfortable and helped in any which way possible. My husband broke his wrist prior to arriving at Villa Pomona, and the owners escorted us to a nearby hospital and made sure he was able to get proper medical attention.
The farm has been in the family for centuries; and staying there would give you a totally Tuscan experience. It is a short distance from Siena, other Chianti attractions, and small cities with great sightseeing and eating places. Driving from Florence or other nearby cities would give you a good tour of the Chianti region.
The apartment is very old since it is part of the original winery, but it is clean, equipped with basic cooking and dining utensils, shared washer, and comfortable bedding. And if you need anything else, just ask the wonderful hosts! The pool is great for hot summer days to cool off before or after sightseeing.
If you are looking for a practical for a family with kids and less expensive place, this is ideal. Otherwise, if you are seeking somewhere luxurious and modern, look elsewhere.
We've enjoyed every day staying there. The owners are truly amazing people, and have provided a very warm accommodation to us. The wine produced right there on the property is outstanding. The garden is even more beautiful than it looks on the photos. Having a car is a must, and a GPS is highly recommended. Great value and location, all the main landmarks of Tuscany are within about one hour or less of driving. Vaulted stone ceilings keep the lower level comfortably cool in the summer. We would highly recommend it to everyone, and wouldn't hesitate to come back again.
