Prades is a pretty French town with a big and colourful market on Tuesday mornings. The Romanesque church has the largest baroque Reredos in France. There are cafes, brasseries and restaurants as well as a good range of shops all around the town square. There are events and festivals throughout the year. Spanish cellist Pablo Casals fled to Prades during the Spanish civil war, stayed and established the festival that now bears his name. The Catalan summer school takes over the town for two weeks in August, and there is dancing in the square every night.
The town lies in at the heart of the Conflent valleys. The confluence of a number of rivers, the region is exceptionally green and fertile. The local produce is varied and tasty - summer peaches are a particular treat. There are hot springs, caves, beautiful woods and mountains.
Prades is also in French Catalonia. There are many pretty villages, fortified towns, coastal watchtowers, castles, abbeys and museums throughout the area.

About Deiniol Kearley-Heywood
We live in the UK, not far from London, and we travel out to the house every year for our own holiday. We love renting it out, because people love going there. The enjoy the house and area as much as we do!
Deiniol Kearley-Heywood purchased this house in 2004
Why Deiniol Kearley-Heywood chose Prades
We bought the house from a well-known local artist when he retired. He had kept so many of the original features that most houses of this age have lost. We realised we wanted a house that was a great base for exploring the beautiful countryside, but we also wanted to be able to walk to the bar or a restaurant at the end of the day. We arrived in Prades on market day. It took us ages to find somewhere to park, but we fell in love with the market and knew we wanted somewhere that allowed us to walk to and from the market laden down with wine and food. Oh--and the view form the terrace, of course. That nailed it!
What makes this house unique
The view form the terrace, the cool refreshing courtyard, the high moulded ceilings, the central stairwell, the original doors and full-length French windows, the wisteria, the amazing aspidistras (to large to be removed), the quirky shape of the house... you'll get why we like it if you stay.
