About Paula Dominique
I'm Jeff Formica, the owner of Cave Creek Cabin. One of my early work experiences was in Arkansas, and I fell in love! No matter where future jobs took me, I always came back to Newton County for vacations, and I always searched for a property I could purchase. The acreage here at Harmony Acres was perfect and I bought it in 1986! It took until 2000 to find the right location for a cabin, but once I did, Cave Creek Cabin came together - a dream come true!
Paula Dominique purchased this Cabin in 2000
Why Paula Dominique chose Mount Judea
The acreage where the cabin sits was entirely wooded. Paula, my manager, and I walked the property and this ridge top location is where we thought the cabin would have the best view and be most accessible. But there was no cabin! E-bay to the rescue! This beautiful old 1840's-era dogtrot cabin was originally in KY. In 2000, I purchased the entire thing, including the stone chimney, and had it hauled here on two 18-wheelers. All the pieces and parts were carefully numbered. Our neighbor across the next ridge, Wendel Norton, and his crew restored and glorified it to the cabin you experience today. You might enjoy the video we've provided of the hauling and building process.
What makes this Cabin unique
I think you'll agree it was a good decision! The view of the mountains over coffee on the front porch says it all. Burdens are lifted, peace and calm reign, and the soul is restored at Cave Creek Cabin. As a participant in the Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program,e, I am honored to be a steward of the forest, helping preserve the watershed of the Buffalo to ensure that Cave Creek remains a sanctuary/habitat for elk, deer, turkey, eagles and other wildlife. We hope you too find sanctuary here and come back often.

Five stars for solitude alone!
The hardest part was getting to the cabin in our minivan- pretty uneven and confusing roads as you would expect for some place so secluded. But that was also part of the experience and it was something of an achievement when we got in:) After the kids explored the grounds and the game room and the adults took in the view from the kitchen, we settled in for the weekend. The highlight was the Buffalo river kayak trip (you put in from about an hours drive away) which was definitely beautiful and made our long drive worth it. There was ample space and a hose to set up a play pool for the kids by the cabin. There was enough cutlery and bedding. The only downside was that we set forth with the kids to the trek down to the river and that proved to be too challenging for our group and we had to turn back after a particularly precipitous section. There may be an alternate route but we did not bother to ask. Barring the spotty cellphone reception, Paula was very approachable and helped us with any questions. Maintaining such a secluded cabin cannot be without effort and I want to thank the managers and owner for renting out this little peice of heaven. I would again make the drive from Dallas just for the kayaking experience alone and I would not stay anywhere else.
My daughters and I had a great time relaxing in the peace and quiet of the cabin. We drove down to the stream almost every day which was great. The road leading down there might be a little rough for most cars but you could walk it as well. Overall it’s a good place to get away from things and just enjoy some board/card games or some s’mores.
Tranquil mountain cabin - property is clean and inviting. The best fun was swimming and wading at the creek!
We paid for 14 people but there wasn't enough towels provided or bedding for all the beds. If your group is big you will want to clarify this. We brought blankets, but sheets were to be provided and there were not enough for all the beds as well as some of those provided had large rips. Other than that everything was as to be expected. Very remote but great if that is what you are looking for.
So sorry to hear that you apparently didn't have the code to access the extra linen cabinet. It is included on page two of the driving directions, and of course, you have access to our Maytag washer and dryer in case you run through our supply of towels. We specifically remind guests that the bunks are left unmade and that they can use the flat sheets provided to make up the bunks they wish to use. I haven't previously been made aware of any ripped sheets, so I'm sure housekeeping has replaced them since your departure, since no other guests have mentioned them being an issue. Otherwise, I hope you were pleased with your choice of Cave Creek Cabin for your getaway and will visit us again.

Cave Creek Cabin
Newton County is known as the home of the 'Arkansas Grand Canyon.' You'll find an abundance of mountains, bluffs and deep valleys and the superb Buffalo National River. Elk have been imported into the county and are thriving. The acreage surrounding Cave Creek Cabin has been developed to attract elk, dove and turkey. Deer frequent the property as well, and we've seen bald eagles soar down the valley at eye level. We've seen C-130's do the same thing from time to time, flying from the Air Force Base in Jacksonville, AR. However, most of the time it is quiet, serene and secluded here on our 125 acres. Bring your binoculars, hiking boots and camera, and plan to spend some time in the great outdoors. Sam's Throne is nearby, and so is Mystic Cavern. Don't forget to book a float trip in season! Travel to Ponca for some zip lining. Try the Low Gap Cafe for all that's 'gourmet' in these hills.
