About Renate Hannemann
Our German/Icelandic family has lived on the Herridarholi farm, some 400 m from the holiday home by the lake. We run a guesthouse there during the summer, and offer riding tours. Our agricultural operation runs year-round, with sheep, horses, and dairy cows.
Renate Hannemann purchased this House in 2015
Why Renate Hannemann chose Selfoss
Since Iceland is worth a visit even outside of the summer, we decided to offer vacations year-round as well. That's why we built a holiday home on the prettiest part of our 400-hectare farm, and so our Herrukot holiday home was born.
What makes this House unique
The isolated lakeside location allows for a relaxing vacation, especially when combined with the central location and the good access road. The house is so spacious and comfortable that even spending a day indoors when the weather isn't good is a fine holiday experience. The hot tub during a snowstorm or under the northern lights is an unforgettable experience!

Amazing home, perfect spot for our family
This home was beautiful, the hot tub was an amazing way to end our adventurous days. We didnt get to see any northern lights on this visit, but, if they showed up, the hot tub would be the most gorgeous spot to view them.
Great location and beautiful views!
This was a great location for us. We did the Golden Circle and then spent the night here and then went to see the beautiful views on the South side of Iceland the next day and Westman Island the day after that, and they were even able to kindly extend our stay when we realized there was more we wanted to do in the area. We also enjoyed an amazing horseback ride with our host. The location is extremely private on an amazing lake. There are great restaurants in Hella and Selfoss. Fantastic place!
You won't be disappointed!
We had an amazing stay! The property was super clean and comfortable and in a great location. Exactly as pictured and everything we had been looking forward to. Renate was a kind and gracious host and made our stay so comfortable and enjoyable. I hope to return again!
We stayed here for 3 nights and it was every bit as beautiful as the pictures online! If you want to do "the waterfalls" this is a great location to see a number of them within 30 to 60 minutes drive. It's a good couple of hours from this location to Diamond Beach, but I'd still suggest making the trip as it was absolutely mind-blowing and there are plenty of waterfalls and sites to see along the way.
Make sure to hit the grocery store on the way as this is a little bit remote and you can't really just hop down to the store, but that's part of it's charm.
The hot tub is perfect and was used nightly, even in the rain it was awesome! Waking up and looking over the water each day was almost surreal and when it's clear you can see the volcano over the horizon.
There are technically 4 beds, but the second bedroom really would be only for sleeping as it's pretty tiny. I'd suggest this more for couples or with a very small family, but it does technically have 4 beds.
The fact that there's a washer is great, but be aware that there isn't a dryer and that you need to hang the clothes to dry. Not a big deal, just know that.
I could go on and on about how much we enjoyed ourselves here but it's all the same... beautiful area, lovely house, good, central location (for trekking around southern Iceland and waterfalls).
Can't recommend this place more if you are willing to build your own itinerary and go find the adventure!
A Piece of Paradise!
Our stay was so wonderful! The cabin is beautiful and the location was great for our day trips. Our family of 4 was very comfortable in the space. Our best night was stargazing and watching the northern lights from the geothermally-heated hot tub on the deck!
Close to Golden Circle
House was just as shown and was very comfortable. Close to the golden circle and made a great end of the day retreat. Hot tub worked perfectly and the quiet surroundings and view of the lake made our stay very enjoyable. Would definitely stay again.
Herrukot, our newly-built and comfortable holiday home is situated right on the shores of a large lake. It boasts views of the lake, the constantly-changing landscape and the Þjórsa River, and also has horses! The Northern Lights in winter are simply unforgettable! The location in the central Southern Region means that plenty of great day trips are possible, for example to Geysir, Gullfoss, Thingvellir National Park, the Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull Volcanoes, Reykjavik, the Vestmannaeyjar Islands, glaciers, cliffs with flocks of birds, and the highlands of Landmannalaugar and Thorsmörk. Reykjavik is an hour's drive away, and contains numerous museums, galleries, churches, shopping centres, and whale-watching options. We offer short and long rides (even for beginners) through the constantly-changing landscape, over mountains, and along the rivers and lakes. We make sure our guests get an individual treatment! Our farmhouse is 500 m away and we are happy to help with any questions. We'd be happy to give you a view of the Icelandic farm life. We have 300 sheep, 120 Iceland ponies, 70 cows and steers, as well as cats, rabbits, and a dog. Very family-friendly!
