Photos and Description of this South holiday house

Between lake and river, sleeps 2-6, hot tub on a large terrace

Herrukot, our holiday home built in 2015, is located in a gorgeous isolated location right on the lakeside. The house contains two separate bedrooms, each with very comfortable beds that are 90x200 cm in size, a bathroom with a floor-level shower, underfloor heating throughout the house, living/dining room with a pull-out sofa bed for two, and a completely equipped kitchen including a dishwasher, a ceramic-top stove (4 hobs), and an oven. With a floor area of 66 sq.m, it offers a relaxing vacation. Wi-Fi is available at no cost, as well as bed linen, bath towels, and dish towels. The icing on the cake is the 60-sq.m wooden terrace with its own hot tub and a fantastic view of the lake, mountains, and the Hekla Volcano. The house is somewhat isolated, though because of its ideal location in the Southern Region, it is great for winter stays. The Northern Lights are a completely different experience as there are no lights from nearby houses. Our farmhouse is just 400 m away, you can certainly ride out from our farm. We're happy to help if you have any questions about your vacation. We have plenty vacation planning tips! We put a major focus on ensuring that your individual wishes are fulfilled, and are happy to help plan your excursions!

About Renate Hannemann

Our German/Icelandic family has lived on the Herridarholi farm, some 400 m from the holiday home by the lake. We run a guesthouse there during the summer, and offer riding tours. Our agricultural operation runs year-round, with sheep, horses, and dairy cows.

Renate Hannemann purchased this house in 2015

Why Renate Hannemann chose Iceland

Since Iceland is worth a visit even outside of the summer, we decided to offer vacations year-round as well. That's why we built a holiday home on the prettiest part of our 400-hectare farm, and so our Herrukot holiday home was born.

What makes this house unique

The isolated lakeside location allows for a relaxing vacation, especially when combined with the central location and the good access road. The house is so spacious and comfortable that even spending a day indoors when the weather isn't good is a fine holiday experience. The hot tub during a snowstorm or under the northern lights is an unforgettable experience!

Great Location Great views!

Perfect spot located on a private lake setting. Great views of northern lights. Close enough to town and good for day trips. Had everything we needed.

Perfect cabin set in the so beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

What can say... Just stunning! The cabin is just what we wanted, used the hot tub at least twice a day, even in wind and rain (which doesn't last long before the weather changes again). Clean, warm & comfy, with everything you need.

The location is great. We hired a 4x4 and drove around everywhere.

Because of lack of light pollution we were able to see the Northern lights 4times, you could just step outside and watch, no need to drive around looking for a clear location. Just keep an eye on the KP scale and when you wake up in the night always check outside the window.

I can't wait to return.

Thank you for an unforgettable experience.

Wonderful location, very nice cottage

  • 5 of 5

A very nice and very quiet lakeside cottage conveniently located for visiting South Iceland. Wonderful view over the lake and Mt Hekla, very clean and well-equipped, friendly owners at the farm nearby.

Beautiful inside and outside

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my husband and two boys (ages 15 and 8.) The house itself is small but we did not need anymore space. There are 2 comfortable bedrooms, a nice size bathroom and living/kitchen open area. The laundry is in a seperate room which is great for drying your clothes. The house itself is bright and modern with a beautiful light wood beamed ceiling. There are windows in every room. The view is unbelievable. The windows look out onto the lake and the hills beyond. You will see the owners horses across the lake and the other direction you can see Hekla, Icelands most famous volocano. We where fortunate that the weather was clear during our stay and we where able to see the volcano most days. In the late evenings you can walk to the end of the driveway to see sunset! The house is exceptionally clean and comfortable. Outside there is a large deck with a hotub over the lake. The house is conviently located off of Route 1. The drive up the house is gorgeous. Basically you just see horses and the surrounding mountains. It is very private. A truly unique experience for our family. Not to mention close to the town of Selfoss and Hella for groceries, liquor store and of course geo thermal swimming pools. Close to Reykjavik and not too far from Vik for exploring. The girls working on the owners farm are lovely. They gave me and my younger son a tour to see the animals. And, the owner Rentate stopped by the house to say hello which was very nice.

My only regret is that we did not stay an extra night instead of spending 2 nights in Reykjavik.

Wonderful stay at this cozy cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 nights at this cottage in Feb. It was everything we needed and more. Very clean and cozy. Very quite location but close to the main road. Great location for sight seeing! We did day trips to Jokulsarlon, and Vik stopping at the waterfalls, airplane and lighthouse along the way. Saw the geysers on our last day on the way back to Reykavik.

We enjoyed soaking in the hot tub at night and star gazing. We were able to meet Renate and her lovely animals on our way out. She was a wonderful host! You will not be disappointed if you stay here! If you are thinking of coming to Iceland, don't delay! If you like nature and adventure and "getting away from the hustle and bustle" you will love it.

Herrukot, our newly-built and comfortable holiday home is situated right on the shores of a large lake. It boasts views of the lake, the constantly-changing landscape and the Þjórsa River, and also has horses! The Northern Lights in winter are simply unforgettable! The location in the central Southern Region means that plenty of great day trips are possible, for example to Geysir, Gullfoss, Thingvellir National Park, the Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull Volcanoes, Reykjavik, the Vestmannaeyjar Islands, glaciers, cliffs with flocks of birds, and the highlands of Landmannalaugar and Thorsmörk. Reykjavik is an hour's drive away, and contains numerous museums, galleries, churches, shopping centres, and whale-watching options. We offer short and long rides (even for beginners) through the constantly-changing landscape, over mountains, and along the rivers and lakes. We make sure our guests get an individual treatment! Our farmhouse is 500 m away and we are happy to help with any questions. We'd be happy to give you a view of the Icelandic farm life. We have 300 sheep, 120 Iceland ponies, 70 cows and steers, as well as cats, rabbits, and a dog. Very family-friendly!

The underfloor heating in the entire house gives off a comfortable warmth even when it's cold out. The kitchen is generously equipped with all the necessities. The washing machine makes a family vacation easier, especially when travelling with small children. The view from the house is uniquely beautiful, right over the lake and the expansive landscape. You'll see the Hekla Volcano and, on a clear day, the peak of the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano. The isolated location means that the Northern Lights are especially beautiful! Bird watchers will delight in the many bird species on the lake. The hot tub is a relaxing option for all our guests. Horseback riders can use our farm as a point of departure for their rides, and take long tours during the summer months.
