Abruzzo, or “Abruzzi” according to old, is a special region in many ways.
First is called “the green area of Europe” for the highest percentage of land protected by Parks and Reserves (even as much as 33% of the territory is bound, the highest percentage in Europe).
Second, the high mountains, including the three highest peaks of the Apennines and the perennial glacier most southern of Europe, are very close to the sea that in some seasons you can go for a swim in the morning and afternoon, in just 45 minutes, go skiing in the mountains! Although this factor has contributed to its rich biodiversity (one of the major in Europe), being able to vary from landscapes of the coast, with palm trees and Mediterranean vegetation, to the high mountain, with alpine stars and glacial relicts like the “Mugo” pine or rare animals.
Even from a geomorphological point of view the territory manifests deep diversity. Consequently, the mountains are very different from them, as well as ancient villages built by the man which, using materials found on site, greatly changes its architecture and building styles within a few minutes. In just a short time everything is different: nature, villages, traditions and customs, ancient economic activities.
Another prerogative of the area is the extreme preservation and attachment to its own traditions and rituals of the people who live “separated” from the various valleys, along the coast or in the villages at high altitudes, thanks to the pastoral economy that pushed the economy and the wealth on top since the Middle Ages … . Even today in some areas seems to live life scenes or ancestral rites medieval, almost always actually of pagan origin and pre-Roman times. The people of Abruzzo, notoriously conservative and obstinate pride, jealously preserve and perpetuate their traditions not for touristic re-enactments … but as they feel those deep inside.
You will realize that the beauty of this region lies not only in its monuments, in its particularly wild and varied nature, in the exceptional biodiversity of flora and fauna, but especially in the way in which traditions, customs, ways of life, ancient cultures and religious rites were preserved.
Next to us, totally free, there are:
- More than 1 500 000,00 acres of Parks, mountains and Nature Reserves (36% of the whole territory, the highest percentage in Europe);
- About 130 km of sea coast (guaranteed by 13 Blue Flags);
- Countless abbeys, monasteries, castles and monuments (this region is among the top places in the club of Most Beautiful Villages in Italy with 19 historical towns mentioned).
Among the various possibilities listed here briefly: hiking and nature trails of various types, cayac, including horse riding and hiking with donkeys, mountain biking, paragliding, hang gliding, golf, skiing, thermal baths (only to be healing and not open year-round), as well as churches, castles, monasteries and medieval villages, wine tasting tours and a lot of tradition and folklore.
All strictly away from tourist and more crowded destinations!
Your hosts are the de Pompeis family, which has a long and proud history in Abruzzo. We are deeply involved in local culture and with care we have managed this farmstay for over thirty years, as part of the family estate.
We are delighted to assist our guests with their itineraries, arrange for guides and advise on local cultural and naturalistic itineraries, in addition to restaurants, sports activities, local artisan and folklore traditional festivals.
(It is the donkey speaking, right in the picture ... !)
My owner is named Lorenzo, 50 years old and is a sociologist, but he chose to devote his energy to keep alive the house of his family estate, because he believes that in the TRADITION there is the FUTURE!
Fortunately, it has a nice family with two sweet little girls who also love nature and animals.
Me and my owners really love our land and we will help you with pleasure to discover the wonders of Abruzzo !
The country house is owned by Lorenzo s family since the end of 1.600 and perfectly preserves the original structure and many of the old furniture. Is managed directly by the owners for almost 40 years.
All apartments are self-contained, with their own kitchenette, entrance and private garden or panoramic terrace. They are surrounded by sunny lawns, large grounds with Mediterranean plants and original archaeological remains of the area itself.
Very good is the geographical location and road connection: just below the mountains of the two National Parks of Majella and Gran Sasso, only 30 minutes from the beaches and from the Pescara airport (with low cost flights), very close to picturesque historic centers and only 1.5 hours away from Rome (even with direct buses - stop at 1 km)
The private gardens surrounding all apartments allow you to enjoy the warm Mediterranean sun or dine by candlelight nicely, maybe cooking on the barbeque outside. The outdoor areas are taken care of to make life as pleasant as possible outside, although rental properties are spacious and equipped with all comforts.
In the morning you can choose with extreme ease if you like to conquer the high peaks of the nearby mountains (3,000 meters high), or decide instead to dive into the blue of the nearby and comfortable beaches, or simply relax by the pool while enjoying the view of the mountains, maybe sipping a fine wine from our wine cellar.
Who wants to relax can also enjoy the shade of the pine woods adjacent to the solarium equipped with deckchairs, sun loungers and hammocks and let the kids have fun surrounded by our loving animals (dogs, cats, donkeys, goats, chickens, etc.. ), which often roam freely in the meadows around the house looking for caresses.

In the nearby you can visit medieval villages, abbeys, castles and hermitages, all surrounded by nature and wildness, as well as traditions and folklore.
In 30 minutes you can reach the city of Pescara with its long sandy beaches and its international airport served by a wide choise of low cost and regular airlines; to reach Rome it takes about 1, 5 hours (direct bus possible in 2 h. time - 2 km. for the stop). Golf 25 min.
The farmhouse is in a valley which divides 2 mountains: the National Park of Majella from the National Park of Gran Sasso; 200 metres on the sea level, 3 kilometres faraway from the nearest village and 10km from the Hospital.

Other Activities: thermal bath, canoeing, parapenting, horse and donkey riding, ping pong,
Golf: There are about 30 minutes drive from 'Miglianico Golf Club', located in the province of Chieti, in the hills of Miglianico a height of about 125 meters. One hundred and fifty acres in the green, the Miglianico Golf Club is an environment designed to fit a family sporting and dynamic. A wonderful green oasis surrounded by woods and vineyards. The 18-hole championship course has a par 71 and a length of 6043.
Is the site of competitions for professional and amateur players. The competitions organized by the Club in the course of each season are around 50. But one of the main features of the Club is that it can be attended by those who are not members or tourists, and even occasionally.
The course was designed by one of the most famous American golf architect Ronald Kirby. The technical characteristics of Miglianico Golf Club are very interesting view of the personality of the entire route on canonical 18 holes that wind through forests, vineyards and artificial bunkers. The holes, by both professionals and amateurs, are technical, challenging but also fun.
We are also about 15 minutes drive from the Golf Club Arcobaleno which is located in Alanno: a 9-hole for pitch and path.
Ski: We are about 50 minutes drive from Roccaraso (in the province of L'Aquila), which offers very modern ski lifts and more than 100 km of alpine ski slopes and 170 km of cross country skiing! It is, therefore, the largest area of all Italy south-central and seventh nationally for overall qualità. Possibility to rent the equipment on site.
We are also about 50 minutes by car from Passo Lanciano - Maielletta (m. 1305 to 2100) in the province of Chieti, one of the places where, thanks to the extreme proximity to the humid winds of the coast, it snows more. Spectacular feature is that, when the weather is particularly nice, skiing, you can see the sea! But there are only 18 km of alpine ski slopes and 15 km of cross country skiing. Can rent the equipment on site.
Besides these two places nearer, not far from us there are many other ski areas.
