About The Owner

Serenity Acres is where I grew up...many years ago. It was a special place then, and continues to be so. My parents farmed the land and had the usual farm animals...with the exception of chickens, and there were more than the usual number of chickens. Bent Cypress Cottage was originally the house where the eggs were processed. After the chickens left, my mother converted the house into a living space. Through the years, it has been renovated, made it through Katrina, in which one of the cypress trees became bent....hence the name.

I retired from teaching and came back to the farm and keep myself busy planting a lot of flowers and trees and doing stained glass and mosaics.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1989

Why The Owner chose Perkinston

After inheriting the property, I felt, as the caretaker, that I had to do my best to keep it as beautiful as I remember. It is at a dead end road and when I get out of my car, it is like I can instantly slow down. It's just a great place to get back to nature and remember why we're here.

What makes this cottage unique

Depending on what season it is, it is wonderful to sit outside...whether it's in the Party Barn/Feast House, or in the sitting area by the field...

It's a wonderful place to star gaze, build a fire and celebrate the full moon.

In the Spring, the frogs, which live in different ponds, put on quite a symphony.

In the Summer, the flowers are beautiful and there's usually some figs and blueberries to pick.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I had a great time. I took lots of pictures. My dad and I found the games and played Scrabble. We also took pictures of the horses. We used the fireplace a lot. Your house is to die for. We all loved the back porch. The dogs also ran almost all day. I really hope we can come again.

The community will miss Brooks with his daily tennis lessons with the high school team and the neighbors will miss seeing you on your daily 8 mile walks around the country....and last, but not least...Jack/Jake will miss you too. Happy travels.

Serenity Acres is that and much more!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Serenity Acres for 3 weeks in June - thought the price was right and it was near enough to the coast so that we could look at houses and properties - thinking of moving. Rosa's cottage was very comfortable for the 2 of us - everything worked great and it was very clean with anything we might need for cooking. The master bathroom shower was a little small, but there is another tub/shower in the 2nd bathroom. We enjoyed sitting outside in the evenings on the cement pad or in the party barn, just watching the birds and clouds and rain and hearing nothing but nature! Jack the yellow cat was very friendly and came to say hello in the morning and when we returned in the evening. The Big Level grocery store had delicious sandwiches, salads, hamburgers and breakfasts (grill closes about 2pm) and was stocked with essentials if we needed something in a hurry. Otherwise we shopped at Piggly Wiggly in Wiggins for a larger variety of foods for meals. If you want to get away from it all without camping in the middle of a forest, this is the place. We would definitely stay here again - and hope that we have that opportunity!

Diane and Bill

  • 5 of 5

We've rented from Joni for two years for two months each time. First at Bent Cypress, then Rosa's Cottage. Each place was clean and well furnished. The fence area at Bent Cypress was great for our poodles. The country atmosphere was everything a person could want.

Owner's Response: Diane and Bill, Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review... I'm glad you enjoy the country as much as I do, and I so appreciate all the things you both did to help keep the house and grounds looking their best. I will have plenty of firewood, thanks to Bill for splitting the wood. And I love all the special things you left behind. You are the best guests one could ever ask for.

Fantastic Family Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I met our daughter and young grandson here for a relaxing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of daily life! It was everything we hoped it would be!

Quite, serene, relaxing! Daily walks around the property or back to the pond, feeding the horses some apples or carrots, listening to the birds and wind chimes all day while sitting around the campfire at night being serenaded by the coyotes....what more could you ask for?

You know the Memes you see people post that shows a quaint cottage and it says something like "All I want is a cabin in the woods and Wifi!" Well this is that scene in real life

I think my husband spent an entire day on the back porch reading and listening to the big wind chimes and when he finally came in, he said "That was one of the best days I've had in years!"

This is the perfect place for two couples or a small family. There are other cabins on the property in case you have a larger family and needed more space and did not want to cram everyone in the same house

I know for us, we'll probably use this as an annual retreat.

Thanks for the memories

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a wonderful review. I'm happy you and your family enjoyed the farm and appreciated the peace and quiet. I always leave the farm in a better state of mind after a few days of relaxation, walking the property, and having friends over for a bonfire or two. It truly is a special place to me. I'm glad you appreciate it, as well. Thank you for taking care of the home. It was perfect after your stay. Joni
