About Jim Meighan
Jim and Marilyn Meighan first visited Puerto Rico on a Christmas trip in 1972. Enchanted by the great natural beauty, wonderful weather, relaxed culture, interesting history and warm friendly people, they vowed to return. Over the next two decades they made several more trips to Puerto Rico. Now certain that they wanted a retirement home on this welcoming island, they acquired Casa de Loma (Hill House), their first home on the island. Visiting Casa De Loma, in its relaxed rural environment, soon led them to believe that other travelers would enjoy the unique experience of visiting the 'real Puerto Rico.' In 2000, they began opening Casa de Loma to other island visitors. After more than 100 guests, they acquired Casa Soleada in 2005. A truly unique getaway for couples, honeymooners, small families, Casa Soleada provides a similar immersion in the culture, while offering spectacular views, a wonderful small swimming pool and a bright airy living space.

Why Jim Meighan chose Humacao
We chose Casa Soleada for its spectacular views, lovely Caribbean architecture, and wonderful location. It is minutes from many wonderful beaches, near the ferry for the off shore island trips, near the history of Old San Juan and a short drive to comprehensive services and vacation activities.
What makes this House unique
Casa Soleada offers privacy in a bright airy surroundings. We never drive into the parking area without remarking about the incredible view. It's the perfect home for a couple to relax, and yet it is a wonderful based for touring about all of Puerto Rico.

Great vacation!
Property is better than listing shows. The pool and views are great! The neighborhood is safe, inviting and a short drive to many great attractions. Palmas del Mar is 5 minutes away with nice pools and restaurants. Nice beach by the Sheraton. Old San Juan is a great day trip with shopping, restaurants and touring the old fort etc. Highly recommend Casa Soleada. Thanks Jim!
Thanks for you thoughtful review! Yes, it is very difficult to advertise the uniqueness of this property. Every time I visit it to work or relax, I look at the view and say, "Wow!" It's great to hear that you felt the same way!
Off the beaten path
We stayed at Casa Soleada the end of January and loved it. Its a cute little house and perfect for 3 to 4 people in the same family. The views from the house were amazing. Enjoyed the little pool and the great views of the Caribbean sea while swimming. The house was off the beaten path of your typical PR hotel, and thats one of the reasons we rented it. It was still close and convienent to food and shopping just a few minutes away!
Pefect Private Retreat
Casa Soleada was exactly the intimate retreat we were looking for; we did a lot of searching and many of the houses were too big or did not have a private pool. If you are traveling with your significant other and want to be a little off of the beaten path but still have the opportunity to explore Puerto Rico on your own, we highly recommend Casa Soleada.
The house is just the right size for two, the pool is perfect for morning/evening dips or just laying around on the rafts during the day. Also, the view is amazing from the pool/house (mountains, houses, vegetation, the ocean, etc.).
The house was equipped with all of the basic amenities and household items we needed to enjoy our stay: kitchen items we used to cook multiple meals, coolers and towels for exercusions, and rafts for the pool. Also, we are very grateful Jim provided detailed instructions for staying in the house as well as driving directions and things to do. This helped us solidify our plans for the week and removed many random questions we might have had during our stay.
We made day trips to Luquillo Beach, El Yunque rainforest, bioluminescent kayakying, and Playa del Mar. Most of these excursions (minus Playa del Mar which is closer) were about a 45 minute (gorgeous) drive and we would highly recommend each of them! Although we didn't even come close to seeing/doing everything we wanted to while we were there because we enjoyed simply relaxing around the house/pool so much.
We would definitely return to Casa Soleada if our travels ever take us back to Puerto Rico.
A one small inconvenience to be aware of that did not hinder our enjoyment of the trip, but we feel would be nice to be aware of when considering Casa Soleada: The master bed was very "springy", not very comfortable, and we believe caused some lower back issues during the stay. We slept on the extra bed the last few nights and it was smaller but a little more comfortable and the lower back issues started to decline once we switched beds.
Great Winter Escape!
We just returned home to the worst winter in New England for 10 years! We had the good luck of missing two entire weeks of it, snow storm after snow storm, while we enjoyed ourselves at Casa Soleada. This is our second consecutive February visiting Casa Soleada. We love the views, find the house comfortable in every way, and use it as an excellent base to travel about Eastern Puerto Rico. This year we explored Palmas Del Mar, one of Puerto Rico's finest resorts, which Casa Soleada looks down on from its amazing location. The resort offered us access to 15 restaurants and the beach; because the owner of Casa Soleada is a member there we were able to visit the lovely Beach Club complex using the provided guest passes. The resort is just a six-minute drive from the Casa, but no one in the resort had our amazing views and lovely breezes. Oh, to be back relaxing by the pool and soaking up the rays!
Your in the real Puerto Rico when you stay at Casa Soleada, but you have the convenience of a major resort just five minutes away. As members of the PAC , we offer guests at our Casa passes to the restricted Palmas Beach Club. A great place for a relaxing swim or a casual meal in the lovely outdoors dinning room. Of course, Casa Soleada is great for non-resort activities, like visiting the Rain Forest Park or taking a kayak to see the bioluminescent bay in Fajardo. At Casa Soleada, there is alway more to do. but it is also the perfect place to relax and enjoy the warm temps and wonderful sunshine by the private pool.
Casa Soleada Bright, Airy, and Great Views
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Casa Soleada and the wonderful low 80 degree temperatures of Puerto Rico (PR) in late February. The house was clean, tidy and very charming. I liked the layout, the bright colors and airiness of the house. Although it was a challenging climb up a narrow and winding road to get to the house, once there the house offered privacy with gorgeous views of the ocean and the various towns below.
Humacao is located close to many sites along the eastern coast of PR. We enjoyed visiting the El Yunque Rain Forest, Luquillo Beach, and the island of Viegues to name a few. Since we were sightseeing during the day, we didn’t get to enjoy the pool which always looked so inviting. Unfortunately, by the time we returned from our travels, it was a little breezy and overcast for us to use the pool. However, we did enjoy the view and reading from the patio around the pool.
Casa Soleada had internet service which allowed us to stay in touch with our family and a TV. Jim, the owner, was fabulous at answer questions I had before traveling to PR and he provided a nice travel packet which we used frequently during our stay.
The perfect mountain-top pied-a-terre, in an ideal island location.
Everything as advertiesd - the owners are real pros. No problems. The house is like a Pureto Rican version of a loft: big, open, informal, comfortable. Well-eqipped and clean. Great infinity pool with spectacular views! Just down the hill to town and beaches - literally minutes away. Humacao is such a great location: you can just drive along Route 3/53 up the east end of the island from Tuna Point to Fajardo and check out all kinds of beaches, beautiful scenery, road-side restaurants with fresh, cheap food and drink. People are friendly and happy to see you.
This was your second stay at one of our Puerto Rico homes and it sounds like you will be back again! Like us, you love the amazing views that are right outside of Casa Soleada. As you know, the panoramic views go from Fajardo in the north, past Vieques Island and then to Yabucoa in the South. In the turn of a head, you can view the Caribbean Sea and the gaze over 3000 foot peaks! Where else can one do that while swimming in the pool or eating breakfast. No wonder our home has become a well-known couples getaway! Thanks so much for your thoughtful review.
