WE CAN ACCOMMODATE LARGE GROUPS. We understand some groups are individuals who want their own bedroom. There are lots of options for completely private sleeping areas with their own private bath at The Ranch. We have relationships with adjacent properties to sleep larger groups of people.We have access to a rural event facility or can help you locate a back roads venue of choice, ideal for corporate meetings, dinner parties, wine tastings, team cooking classes, rehearsal dinners, elopements or intimate weddings or renewals. We have video and large screen streaming for corporate retreat needs.

The quoted rates are for 5 bedrooms and 12 guests in The Main Ranch House. Other options and setups are possible, including access to additional bedrooms in our guest house; fees may apply. Day use guests are also possible. WE have a 90 day cancellation policy. If you need to cancel within 90 days we will try and re-rent the dates for you and refund accordingly.

We can arrange en situ private pours/tastings by some of the county's best winemakers or private chef presentations/meals with wine country pairings right at our property. Or maybe you want to know the best choice for hot air balloon trips or where to zip line through the redwoods, ensure the most informed visit possible to this multi-faceted agricultural area. If you can dream about it, we can organize it for you; there is a fee for service.

A veritable nature preserve of 70 secluded acres on a ridge at the Napa/Sonoma county line, this home has a breathtaking vanishing edge pool with views to Mount St Helena and beyond. Nature is just BIG up here. Every design choice has been made to improve one's ability to sense and absorb the splendors of rural Sonoma County. We do our utmost to create the ultimate vacation environment, anticipating one's every need. The gardens at the house are noteworthy: wisteria droop across the front of the house and roses abound in the side yard. A floral cutting garden and herb garden are designed for resident guests' use during their stay (seasonal). There is no better place to contemplate life big issues and restore your creative juices.

The chemical free pool is 60 feet long. The surrounding deck exceeds 3000 sq ft with barbecue area and fire-pit. 8 person (known to hold more!) hot tub, bocce and a media room with 70' flat screen and surround sound. Extensive area for outdoor seating and dining including dining tables both inside and out. *Please note in the rainy season (typically November-March/April) outdoor cushions are stored.

The kitchen was designed for our chefs, thus professional quality: 10' island, 4' range, 3 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers, state of the art cooking equipment, etc. The owner, a European-trained interior designer has used antique furnishings and finishes throughout. The refinement of the design adds much to the overall experience and level of relaxation affordable at this awe-inspiring property.

PARTICULARS: We have a caretaker who lives on a neighboring property, so unlike most VRBO rentals, you can be assured of better oversight and assistance; someone is almost always on call. There is firewood on the premises and the fire pit will be stacked, ready for your match to set alight. The pool is truly chemical free with numerous in-water benches from which to overlook the Valley Beyond.

CHECK-IN is guaranteed by 4:00 p.m. and checkout is at 11:00 a.m. We do our very best to accommodate early check-ins and late check-outs, but cannot make any guarantees until one week prior to arrival in case the house is occupied on your arrival or departure date or maintenance is occurring.

EVENTS: We now have access to a nearby rural event facility or can help you locate a back-roads venue of choice. Elopements are easily accommodated, ask about our options. We can arrange intimate sized events or a rural wine country gathering as we have a 5-star event planner on staff familiar with all venues and vendors of quality in the two-county area. The size and scope of this property afford unique venue choices for wine tasting events, dinner parties for all celebrations, ceremonies, rehearsal dinners, yoga classes, just to name a few!

CORPORATE: We are uniquely well configured to provide both the mind-expanding natural environment plus the required amenities and services to truly ensure blue ocean level creativity for either meetings or retreats.

LOCATION UNPARALLELED: We are so high up, 2500 feet (we are slightly above neighboring Pride Winery), that we are rarely affected by the bay area fog or “marine layer”. For vacationers, this guarantees endless warm summer nights and much hotter average temperatures during the day - ideal for taking advantage of the pool and grounds. All the bedrooms are air-conditioned to be sure. This is basically a state of the art “green” structure with superb climate control. For cooler periods we have radiant floor heat throughout. The 70 acre ranch is rural and uniquely located on a ridge near the Napa/Sonoma county line thus affording easy access and touring of both valleys. We are 25 minutes from the corner of Highway 12 and Calistoga Rd in the Sonoma Valley and just under 25 minutes from the center of St Helena in the Napa Valley. Thus from the Ranch, you can drop down to the center of either valley and view them both from this property. Approaching either valley destinations from the “side” allows you to avoid the encumbered main valley north/south traffic. We are 2 hours from San Francisco, Oakland, and Sacramento. Not everyone knows there is an airport in Santa Rosa, 45 min from the house; several commuter flights per day from Seattle, Portland, San Diego, Orange County, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Francisco and LA. If you can fly to this airport it is much easier than San Francisco and you get to fly in over all the splendor of the coastline and the vineyards.

The house is located off a 1.5 mile one lane all-weather gravel road.

CULINARY OPTIONS GALORE: We are pleased to have a myriad offering of culinary and wine services for our guests. We are fortunate to have the renowned wine country chef John Ash and his staff managing our culinary offerings. Many believe John to be the “Father of Wine Country Cuisine”. I am an interior designer trained in both the US and France. I totally gutted this farmhouse down to just a few studs and then completely rebuilt it. Even 50% of the roof is all new with solar added. We made certain the house retained the character of rural wine country living but included all the comforts and efficiencies of a brand new home. Because my background is specifically in hospitality design, I think you will find that we have done well to anticipate guests' needs as they come to the house for profound rest and rejuvenation as well as to partake of the wonders of both the Sonoma and Napa wine country.

What makes this estate unique

The sheer size of this property is its fundamental uniqueness and prowess. The views and sense of vastness afforded by its ridge-top location, above both the Napa and Sonoma valleys, fills one with a sense of the magic of this geography and the profundity of the time-honored agricultural and culinary traditions thriving in the northern California region - (like nowhere else this side of the Atlantic or Pacific actually). Nature is all but undisturbed and thus busily flourishing. I have lived in numerous other areas of both Napa and Sonoma counties, but until I moved here in mid-2012, I had no idea such an undisturbed sense of the wild still existed in this part of the world. The wildlife is abundant and with that comes a sense of profound stillness encouraging one to truly disconnect from the pressures and pace of our everyday world. A place to 'get back to your roots' and consider what life is essentially about; where you have been and where you want to go. Halcyon days await.....

WHOA! Talk about an IDEAL house! I had the opportunity to visit the Ranch Above St. Helena not long ago and was stunned by the enormity of this place! 70 acres total! The drive along St Helena road was an experience in itself. If you’re driving from the Napa Valley side, you will pass privately owned wineries, mammoth redwoods, ferns, ponds, creeks and an iconic looking rock that resembles a Polynesian Tiki God. Just keep your eyes out and you’ll see what I mean.  During my stay, I encountered quite a variety of natural wildlife—turkeys, vultures, squirrels, foxes, even a peacock! The safari drive up the gravel road was equally thrilling. I cannot wait to mountain bike these spots! They feel secluded, but are not located too far away from downtown and other major cycling routes (such as Highway 29 or Silverado Trail).



I also happen to be an art history major, and was taken aback by the quality of the interiors. The eclectic style is fun, refreshing and incredibly romantic. Sofas, beds and benches are covered in paisley, floral and striped prints, linens and furs. As soon as you enter the doorway, you are surrounded by beautiful objets d’arte: Grecian busts, prism chandeliers, rustic shutters, Aubusson carpets, French garden pillars, Rococo mirrors and an intriguing collection of shells and books.



On a separate morning, I even decided to host a tea using a rented set of Noritake China. They have quite a selection that you can rent including linens and other decorative accessories. With the caretaker’s assistance, we played harpsichord music through the Sonos music system. Later, we moved to the outside to enjoy the wisteria and flower gardens. My girlfriends and I felt as if we had become characters straight out of a Jane Austen novel. We all dawned Kentucky Derby hats, sundresses and pearl necklaces. Definitely had a lot of fun playing a game of Bocci in the back while drinking wine and Mint Juleps. It was both wonderful and rare to find a house that has the ability to satisfy my unique party themes!

Beautiful Property

The house is beautiful and easily accommodated our group of twelve. The best part of the property is how isolated you are and the views are incredible. The only issue we had was our limo driver felt it was unsafe to drive up the mile or so dirt road to the house to pick us up for wine tasting. We had to shuttle everyone down to the main road in our SUV. I would certainly stay here again.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed the property. Pls note this review is an excellent case in point as to why guests must only employ transport companies on our list. We have 6 plus companies to choose from who all have been out to The Ranch and have inspected the roads, and frequently provide service for our guests. The roads are very safe, but newcomers can feel unsure. We are clear in our information that at The Ranch only preapproved companies form our list are allowed and furthermore that stretch limos are not functional. This guest failed to follow our instructions and ordered a stretch and therefore they, regrettably, had issues. There is one 90 degree uphill turn that is difficult for a very long vehicle to successfully manoeuver. We are happy to consider other companies than those on our list, but they must come up to The Ranch, review the access and meet with us. This company did not do a fair and reasonable job for this guest. There are many roads in either county that can not accommodate a stretch. When hired they should have checked a map to determine access to the destination address and would have known a stretch was not reasonable for other than a very experienced driver. There are many companies that claim that they drive in the wine country, when in fact they do not. If this company did, they would have been familiar with our area which is central to many famous wineries. Please note, the companies on our list usually have special pricing for our guests.

Mountain top get away has beautiful views but is pretty far away.

The setting is beautiful for this large house decorated in a French chateau style. It was great for our 11 person group, but we would have benefited from renting four wheel drive cars to get there. We had a wonderful weekend, but were disappointed that we were not allowed to turn on the pool heater, or use the missing outdoor cushions allegedly due to a rain forecast, which of course never materialized. The kitchen is large and completely decked out for cooking, which we took advantage of. The garden would have come in handy later in the season, but the grounds were absolutely spectacular. The lookout deck provided fantastic views both east and west.

Owner's Response: We truly regret that Erin did not understand the terms of her spring reservation and the extensive information provided about the property before her stay. We discount rates at this time of the year because the weather can be cool and unpredictable and reiterate this fact. There is always some outdoor furniture left out all year round. If guests want to pay for our guys to move more or all of the cushions in and out during the rainy season, we are happy to provide this service, weather permitting. Erin declined this service. After +/- mid-April, it stops raining until Nov here in CA. We have acres of fully upholstered outdoor furnishings for months on end at The Ranch. Pls be assured there is no need for 4 wheel drive vehicles, they would only be a hindrance. The roads are rural and curvy but that is all - they are easily passable even in heavy rain. I zip up and down in my Prius. We are very clear in our information that the pool is a vanishing edge and therefore cannot have a cover. It is solar heated as gas or elec heat without a cover is unaffordable. Some years weather in April can be hot and clear, it is a gamble if you want full use of the pool at bargain rates. The pool is always clean and beautiful to behold, year round. No matter the precise temperature of the pool, April is the most splendid month up here. The rolling hills are all green and wildflowers abound, the valley is not crowded with tourists - it is locals' favorite time of the year!

It's beautiful... The property, the house. Layout of the house is great. Open living and kitchen area out to the patio/pool. Clean, plenty of linens, for a rental home very well stocked chef's kitchen. We brought a private chef in and she even commented it was probably one of the best kitchens she had walked into for a rental house. We did a wine pairing dinner for 10 and had plenty of wine glasses! The view is spectacular. We got great use out of the hot tub and fire pit as it was very chilly during our stay. We will come back. Thank you.

Wonderful house, wonderful location, wonderful team ...great location for a wedding event

Months ago I picked this location and planned this for a once in a lifetime wedding destination event for my son.

It could not have gone any better (and I have photos to prove it !!).

The Blair Spangler group was wonderful to deal with. They were very professional. Their website was extremely detailed and informative (photos and videos of the property).

In many respects they were the behind the scene wedding planners. I contracted for their concierge services and got my moneys worth. Flower selection, cake selection, caterer selection, site location, wedding decorations, fine china, music, in home chef, in home make-up, delivery service of food and wine ..... you name it, they provided great insights, knowledge and experience.

The location on top of Spring Mtn, provided stunning views morning and evening. Remote yet easily accessible to the Napa Valley town of St Helena.

The house was 5 stars. 5 gorgeous bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and shower for 2. A cooking show quality kitchen. A media room with all channels and streaming available. A great room where 20-25 people could gather, dine, celebrate and relax. A stunning top-of-the-hill Summit deck readily available for parties, WEDDINGs, outdoor dining and living large.

The cherry on top was the well appointed cottage house (detached 150 feet down the driveway). We used it as the bridal suite and it was in a class all its own. My son and his new bride were thrilled and made their rare appearances to drink wine on deck at the fire pit, dine with us in the spacious dining room or take wine tasting trips with us. 5 stars.

If you are wondering where to plan a destination wedding or take the family and friends for a week at an amazing location in wine country. Call Blair Spangler .... and remember to bring your trunks for the pool/hot tub and camera for the memories. Cheers. Frank & Kathleen Thompson.

Perfect for family at Thanksgiving

The property was the perfect solution for our family to get together at Thanksgiving. There were 11 adults and a toddler. The media room was great for football viewing and the dining area was able to seat everyone. The hot tub was a nice respite in the afternoon and the bocce area was well-used. Although we couldn't swim, the pool deck was perfect for yoga practice. The downsides were that I had to plan everything. I had asked the "concierge" to find a chef and arrange a day of wine tasting. Although the fires occurred in October, there were weeks prior to the fires to arrange things. Because we have some contacts in the area, we arranged everything ourselves. They also didn't know the answers to simple questions concerning the coffee maker (FYI there are filters on the property). I did find a wonderful private chef and a great wine touring company. The kitchen is fairly well equipped. Some of the sheet pans provided are too large for the oven. There were no large rolls of foil or plastic wrap and only three small kitchen towels. There are two dishwashers (great for a crowd) but the bottom racks could not hold all the dishes because they came off the tracks as they were a little flimsy (shocking for a Bosch). As a whole, it is a great property and perfect for our family get together. ]

The Ranch Above St Helena CA has EXCEPTIONAL ACCESS TO BOTH COUNTIES / WINERIES. The elevated yet central location of this property affords maximum privacy yet easy access to not one but both Wine Country valleys. There are a bounty of boutique wineries in the immediate vicinity. We provide more info on wineries and vineyards. Traffic especially in Napa county has become very problematic on weekends. With one 2 lane country road the only north/south option, traffic slows to a crawl from 10am to 7 pm in high season. From the Ranch you can drop down to the center of either valley, approaching your destinations from the “side” thus avoiding the encumbered main valley north/south traffic.

RURAL LOCATION: The drive up to the ranch is spectacular but curvy. The driveway is a gravel rd of one mile - all weather passable; I zip up it in my prius with ease. But it is wise to plan ahead as a run to the grocery store is a 1/2 hour plus errand. We are happy to assist with stocking the house and/or arranging drivers etc. Fees may apply

WARM NIGHTS, UNIQUE WEATHER DUE TO ELEVATION: After purchasing this one-of-a-kind location, I was surprised to learn how unique the weather is here. We are so high up, 2500 feet (we are slightly above neighboring Pride Winery), that we are actually rarely affected by the bay area fog or “marine layer”. For vacationers this guarantees endless warm summer nights and much hotter average temperatures during the day - ideal for taking advantage of the pool and grounds. All the bedrooms are air-conditioned to be sure. This is basically a state of the art “green” structure with superb insulation, climate control etc. For cooler periods we have radiant floor heat throughout which is so comfortable.

We are 2 hours from San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento. There is an airport in Santa Rosa, 40 min from the house; several commuter flights per day from Seattle, San Diego and LA.
