About Allen and Sherita Manen
Allen and I were high school sweethearts and were married a month after my high school graduation. We lived on Cave Mountain, just up the road from the famous Hawksbill Crag, for several years before purchasing this land that is now home to Saddleback Lodge. The land was raw with no road access, water, or electric. We built our dream home in 2007 and Allen has worked to make it what it is today. God has blessed us with three beautiful daughters and their families which consist of six grandchildren.
Allen and Sherita Manen purchased this Lodge in 2000
Why Allen and Sherita Manen chose Ponca
This area has always been home for me. Both sets of my Grandparents were born in what is now known as the Buffalo National River Park. My 24 year old Maternal Grandpa married the love of his life when she was 15 and moved her into a 16x16 cabin which he had built on the River in 1927. The partial foundation and chimney still marks the location of this home site. My dad walked across the Buffalo River every weekend to date my mom. Saddleback Lodge is our dream home, but was built late in life when our kids were almost ready to leave the nest. We love our family get-togethers here, but now want to share this wonderful home with you.
What makes this Lodge unique
Saddleback Lodge features Spruce Pine Logs, Native Stone, Cedar, and Aspen throughout the 6000 square foot structure. It offers many unique benefits, such as complete privacy, wood-burning fireplace, large game room, open fire pit, on-site hiking trail to the majestic waterfall, and the beautiful view from the back porch.
100% refund if cancelled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Gorgeous and refreshing!
We loved this place and will be back! There’s plenty of room and it’s so comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need. We hiked to the waterfall on the property (NOT an easy hike, but well worth it) and built plenty of bonfires. The kids and adults had a blast.
Thank you for the review. We sure enjoyed having you and your family as guests. So glad to hear that you will be returning.
Great location, excellent hosts.
Extremely well maintained, well stocked with plenty of supplies. It was the perfect family vacation!
Wonderful Fall Stay!
Enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Saddleback Lodge! The place was a perfect fit for our family! It was very nice, clean and had all the essentials we needed. We had great views, got to do lots of hiking and saw the elk! Our family created many memories at Saddleback Lodge!
Saddleback is an amazing property tucked in the Ozarks. Highly recommend.
We had four families with 18 people, and stayed very comfortably. There is something for all ages at Saddleback and the surrounding area. If you like luxury lodge retreats that are away from it all, then this is the place for your group. The owners are fantastic people and made use feel very comfortable and welcome.
Glad you enjoyed your stay. We enjoyed having you and your group as our guests and would like to welcome you to stay with us on your next trip to the area.
The property and home are beautiful, rustic (but comfortable!) Ameiricana.
"Pros" out weigh the "Cons"! Beautiful, comfortable, great for family fun for all ages! We were a group of 17(9 adults and 8 children) ranging from age 96 to 8 months. We enjoyed hiking, fishing, swimming, bonfires every night, and all of our meals together at the lodge. On the "Con" side, it is very remote without any little town for shopping or a night in a restaurant.
So glad you and your family enjoyed staying with us. We loved having you as our guests and hope you will stay with us again on your next trip to the area.
Sorry to hear you missed getting to eat at our nearby dining spots.
Great House Perfect for family reunion
The property was exceptional. It is a long way to anything (about 1 hour and half to anything).
Thank you for staying with us. We enjoyed having you and your family as our guests.
It is a 90 minute drive to Branson, MO or Eureka Springs, AR if you choose to travel there for activities . Buffalo River activities, such as, hiking, elk viewing, horseback riding, zip lining, canoeing/kayaking (due to current water levels being low on the upper river, canoeing is available on the lower river which is a 90 minute drive), or mountain biking are all within a few minutes of the lodge.
Reconnect with your loved ones by visiting the Buffalo National River Park, America's first National River. The River flows 135 miles through the majestic Ozark Mountains and offers many outdoor adventures. Canoe the river, explore the trails, drive the scenic routes, or view the famous Arkansas Elk herd in the Boxley Valley. Saddleback Lodge is in the heart of the Upper Buffalo National River Park and just minutes from where the River flows through the historic Boxley Valley. Floating the Buffalo is fun and exciting, but the adventures don't stop there. Allow the Upper Trails to take you to historic home sites and numerous waterfalls, including the most popular, Lost Valley; most photographed Arkansas Landmark, Hawksbill Crag; or the highest waterfall between the Rockies and the Appalachians, Hemmed in Hollow at 204 feet.
