Stayed at this property Oct 2019. Everything was exactly as advertised. David (water transport) was helpful and very punctual. Food service provided by David and his wife was also very good. Note that previous reviews suggest that daily transport to Bocas town was included free of charge. Philip (owner) did cover costs to transport us to the property at the beginning, and end, of our stay but any other trips to Bocas town will cost you 25-30 depending on where you are dropped off (Saigon vs: Bocas Town). Overall we were very satisfied with this property however please note this is a fairly remote location so plan accordingly. Mike
Best Vacation EVER!!
I can't begin to describe how wonderful our stay at this beautiful over the water bungalow was!
The boat ride to the house was short and fun! Upon landing on the dock we were in our own secluded paradise! The views are breathtaking, the home spectacular and spacious. Kitchen had a lot of condiments/spices which was nice. The water from the fridge was drinkable but not too tasty. There was a cupboard with leftover sunscreen and bug spray which came in handy. Lot's of snorkel gear, 2 paddle boards, floaties, books, etc..
Day's were spent snorkeling or watching, from the deck, our personal aquarium! Barracudas, tons of fish, a stingray, dolphins, so much to take in.
The hands down best part of the stay was David! He was learning the ropes to take over while Philip and his wife have their baby. We were lucky enough to get to try dishes from a menu he was developing for guests. Every single thing we had was PERFECTION!!! Gourmet meals for great prices, paired with wine & beer. He was our water taxi most of the trip, offering excursions and trips to the main town. He was so helpful, friendly, attentive and accommodating.
We will be back!! Thank you Philip & David for the best trip ever!
Over Water Nightmare
I have stayed in several vacation rentals over the years and this is the worst! When we arrived there was no water and the owner got upset when we asked him about the problem. The next morning we awoke to no power. We were then told we couldn't use washer/dryer because of a water shortage. The TV didn't work and the owner was rude when asked about it. We never could get it to work.
There were no guides or instruction manuals anywhere to show how stuff worked. The house looks nothing like the photos. The photos were obliviously taken several years ago. The grill looked like something you find along the road with a "free" sign on it. The couch was ripped and was disgusting . All the appliances in the house are old/rusting and all the propane tanks were almost empty. The house was dirty and desperately needs painting. We were all excited to stay in our first over the water house and unfortunately this house was not as advertised. We ended up leaving a day early for a multitude of reasons but mainly because of the unfriendly owner who never apologized once for anything. He should be ashamed of the product he is selling and the way he treats his customers.
Phillip and Ingrid's home on the shores of Bocas Del Toro's was simply perfect for our honeymoon. We spent 5 comfortable nights at there vacation home and could not have been happier with the accommodations. Open air rooms and living spaces, snorkeling off the deck, convenient boat rides to and from town, and friendly faces made our stay that much more enjoyable. We highly recommend this location to anyone looking to get off the beaten path and enjoy the beauty and solitude of Panama. Thanks Phillip and Ingrid!
If you are looking for a turnkey vacation this is the place. Thoughtful owner provides services and all amenities.
My husband, 2 good friends, and I spent 10 glorious days here. We relaxed like never before. The house is spacious, with lots of comfortable seating inside and out. The kitchen is excellent for cooking and well outfitted. The bathrooms are large and modern.
The water was very warm and we enjoyed snorkeling with the wildlife. One morning we saw dolphins right off the deck.
We really enjoyed using the kayak, paddle board, and snorkeling equipment.
The owner, Phillip, suggested 2 excellent restaurants (Raw Fusion and Guari Guari).
Twice a day his helper, Manuel, was available to take us to town. Some days we spent the entire day relaxing at the house.
We took a snorkeling tour and saw large star fish and sloths. We heard the howler monkeys but didn't see them.
VRBO continues to provide amazing vacation rentals.
Beautiful Location and Home
The Over the Water House is a part of a collection of homes about a 7 minute boat ride from Bocas Del Toro. It is not a place for you if you are wanting to be in the midst of town but an awesome place if you are interested in relaxing and enjoying the people you are traveling with.
Logistics: Philip is the owner of the property. Once you arrive in Bocas, you will need to give him a call and he will have his driver meet you at a local grocery store. You need to get groceries while you are waiting. There are several grocery stores on the main town. The grocery store they meet you at was not my favorite so keep in mind that they are aren't the only show in town & if you cant find something you want, one of the other stores may have it. Get twice as much as you think you need. The boat ride is about 7 minutes from town. They will take you into town twice per day. Once in the morning and once in the evening if you want. Someone will stop by your villa each day to ask you what your plans are for the day so you need to have one (a plan that is). Our family pretty much stayed in the villa the entire time. I went back into town one other time to get more supplies but for the most part we really stayed in the villa.
The Home: It is a main house which is bordered by a bedroom and bath on each side. The all windows in the home face the water and it is a tremendous view. The home is equipped with Wifi and Apple TV. The kitchen is well stocked although I would have like to have had perhaps one more large skillet & a cookie sheet for the oven. Because it is on the ocean, some of the fixtures have weathered and I think that is something that should be expected. Small geckos do get into the property at times and again should be expected in this location. Beds are verycomfortable. Hot water is plentiful but exercise caution as it can be temperamental. The home is powered by solar panels and when they are working, all is good. They have a back up generator for when the solar panels are not generating enough power. We were fine for the first day and then had to go to generator power for the remaining days. The generator is a bit loud so we had to keep the back door of the property closed. During our stay, Philip was having trouble with the generator and we had to text him a few times when it failed. He was quick to come over to deal with it. Overall, we really really enjoyed our time. Amazing view and home. Be sure to snorkel right off the deck!
