What an amazing place for peace and relaxation! The inside is spacious and well decorated, the beds comfortable and the porch devine! We loved the location among the fields, and had nightly visitors from deer, antalope and cattle. We will definitely come back!!

3.5 Star Stay Instead of 4

  • 4 of 5

We have stayed in this cabin a few times and loved it. If it wasn’t for 1 major problem, it would have been another 5 star stay.

The major problem: the overuse of scented products. Even the Swiffer Sweeper dry sweeping refill pads were scented.

When we got there, we noticed it smelled different. The strong scent from the bed pillows gave me an immediate migraine and a severe runny nose. My husband got a stuffy nose. The bedding also had the same smell so I decided to strip everything and wash it. Unfortunately, the bedding smell had soaked into the twin mattresses themselves. I tried what I could to lessen the smell the 1st night but, even with taking 2 types of allergy medicines, my sinuses plugged up so badly it felt like my eardrums were going to burst.

The next day, we left the windows open while we went out for supplies and to try to find an unscented odor reducer. When we got back, we could smell a heavy odor coming from the cabin while still a foot from the porch. The smell was coming from 3 bins plus another 2+ bins worth of scented cleaning products stored in the pantry. I used heavy duty garbage bags to seal up the cleaning products and set a bowl of white vinegar in the pantry to help absorb the odors.

The housekeeper/cabin host came out and did what she could. The problem turned out to be a brand new fabric softener scent. In addition to being washed with scented fabric softener, the bedding also gets sprayed with a scented starch.

It took about 5 days of work, 2 gallons of white vinegar, and the only bottle of unscented odor reducer within a 90-mile radius to remove enough of the odor from the mattresses that I didn’t have to take 2 types of allergy meds at the same time to avoid a headache.

Other than that, the cabin was super clean and just as comfortable as we remembered. The housekeeper baked fresh cookies, was extremely sweet and helpful throughout the odor saga, and felt so bad she brought us more cookies the night before we left. There was even an assortment of fresh fruit which was appreciated. Our dog loves staying there and we love being away from people and not having to listen to (as many, though more than our last stays combined) fireworks. Mountain Home was good at getting our issue forwarded to the proper people as well.

So, would we stay again? In a heartbeat. But, I will bring a good odor neutralizer with me next time just in case.

Wont stay anywhere else in Montana again!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for the first time in August and plan to come back next year. The cabin is amazing! From breakfast on the enclosed porch to watching the wildlife in the evening, we couldn't have asked for a nicer home away from home. The privacy of the ranch was perfect, and waking up to the views of the Ruby Valley and Tobacco Root Mountains was spectacular. Can't wait til our next trip! We travel with our dog, (Labrador Retriever) , and he had a great time also. Also a big thumbs up to Mountain Home Vacation rentals for their outstanding customer service.

We have stayed in the same cabin 2 years in a row. When we drive up at night it is lit up for us, warm, and so cozy. It has all the amenities you need for a week stay including a great kitchen, pots, pans, washer & dryer, you name it. If you are there in the winter, the floors are nice and warm so you feel so cozy even on a snowy day. We absolutely LOVE it there and plan to go again every year.

A Little Gem in the Treasure State

We chose this cabin to get away for my husband's 50th birthday and we could have not have been happier with our choice. On arrival, the cabin was pristine. It was wonderful to wake up to the beautiful views to the front and back of the property, and relax on the porch; this place quickly felt like home. The pictures do not do the cabin justice; it was simply but elegantly furnished, roomy with high ceilings, and no detail was overlooked; dishes and cookware were higher-end and in good condition. We also appreciated the environmentally green cleaning products and the organic shampoo and shower gel. In the August heat the cabin did not get overly warm and cooled down significantly at night because of the numerous windows. We did bring our own table fan as well for sleeping overnight.

Kristen (Management) was extremely responsive and helpful with any questions or concerns, gathering pamphlets and maps for us that were left in the cabin to make our stay more enjoyable. You are pretty much on your own, so this place is for the independent traveler. However, phone numbers were left in case we needed anything. We enjoyed being "off the grid"; there is fairly fast wifi if you need to connect with the real world. The location is extremely quiet but close to the highway, which was convenient for the several day trips we did. There is much to do in this location and our regret is that we didn't stay longer; though that gives us an excuse to return!

Improvements we'd like to see are a luggage rack and a larger set of drawers. Also a bread knife and a sharper pair of scissors would make the kitchen perfect.
