Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

Come try something new and adventurous. Stay at our yurt and enjoy the best of both worlds. You can feel a closeness to nature while not skimping on amenities as our yurt is outfitted with everything you need to have wonderful retreat in a secluded woodland mountain setting. Though you will feel like you are in a remote location, you will only be 5 minutes from groceries and restaurants, 10 -15 minutes from Biltmore and eclectic downtown Asheville, and within any hour from most of what Western North Carolina has to offer. If you want to take a hike, the Mountains to Sea Trail is only 150 yards from your doorstep. If you head south, it is a 45 minute hike to the Folk Art Center. If you head north it is only a fifteen minute hike to an awesome overlook. When you get back you can lounge on our spacious deck and take in the mountain scenery before you start grilling dinner. You might then want to make the 15 minute drive to downtown Asheville to hear some good music at one of Asheville’s many venues. Another option would to be to head 20 minutes east to quaint Black Mountain for a walk around. Needless to say this is a romantic spot for a couple to reconnect or bring your kids or another couple as there is plenty of room for them. If you have never been in a yurt, you are in for a comforting experience that living “in the round” creates. So don’t hesitate and come stay with us for a few days or a week and return home feeling relaxed and renewed.

Amazing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful place to stay! Very quiet and remote but super close to town and anything else you would need (groceries, gas, restaurants). Bring DVD's if you want to watch much TV, though we preferred to just listen to the birds and the breezes (really nice TV though). Wood stove was great and loved having it since it got down to 25 degrees one night! Plenty of wood provided but bring some starters to get it going. Heaters were helpful when it got that cold but still stayed about 30 degrees warmer than outside without them. Beds are very comfortable and blankets are just scrumptious and fleecy! The whole place seems to just gives one a zen, nurtured feeling. I actually miss it. Will definitely be back! Thanks to the owners for all the obvious thought that went in to making this place.

Hot and Cold

I am into hard core camping while my wife prefers to remain a "Ramada Ranger". I found the Yurt an interesting experience. My wife had an issue with the tent like appearance. I enjoyed the experience enough that I would consider buying property and building one.

Our First Yurt Experience - We highly recommend this!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great experience for our family's visit to Asheville, NC. It is situated up a long gravel road half way up on a mountainside which was perfect for us. The MTS hiking trail is a short walk away too. The yurt was spacious and provided everything as described with a large deck, outdoor grill and a hot tub that was great in the evenings after a day of hiking. It sure beats a hotel stay!!!

We enjoyed the yurt very much although the grill did not work, no utensils for grill (it wasn't cleaned either), TV/DVD system didn't work, there were nails on the deck protruding that, if we didn't notice them ahead of time could have seriously hurt a toe or foot and lots of ants(but I suppose being a yurt and in the woods it's to be expected. Other than that, we loved it.

Owner's Response: It is always helpful to get reviews but it is so frustrating when our guests do not let us know the issues they are having while they are there instead of letting us know about them in reviews. All the issues mentioned could have been remedied easily. The grill was out of propane and we keep a spare tank readily available. The TV problem was user error and there are detailed instructions that apparently were not followed. We don't usually have ant problems as we have scheduled pest control. I had just done some renovations that might have stirred some up. I surely wish they had told me about the "nails" (our deck is actually screwed so this kind of thing is less of a problem) because I couldn't find any and they could have pointed them out to me and have actually done something that would be of benefit to future guest. Bottom line.....communication is the key.

Neat place

  • 4 of 5

So overall this was such a neat place and great for a weekend away with friends. There were way more pros then cons.

Pros:

There was plenty of sleeping areas and a full kitchen. The hot tub was used by my friends (I am 5 months pregnant so could not use). We were super close to everything we wanted to do. It was quiet and exactly what we needed. The Yurt was like a cabin, but with a cooler feel.

Cons:

The sulfa water smell was prettt gross. I'm usually easy to please, but I don't think I could handle it for more then a weekend.

The place was hard to find initially. I made the mistake of not following the confirmation directions. We were traveling from another part of the state after work and our travels took longer then expected. We got there late (which I did email saying we would be after 9) and I texted to let the owner know we were running even later. After driving all night I could not find the place and I was driving around at 11pm. I ended up having to call the owner and I was told to refer to my email with no further instructions. I found the email, but I found them confusing and it took us another 30-45 min to find it. I felt as if the owner could have been a little more helpful. I did make the mistake of not following the directions, but after working all day, driving all night, and in general being tired a little grace and help would have gone a long way.

I went with a group of my female friends. Although we felt safe I wish the property had been locked and the key in a box when we arrived. Walking into a Yurt unlocked in a secluded location was a little scary since we were arriving later.

All in all the property was clean, nice, and the bad start did not ruin our weekend. We brought water bottles to drink so that helped with the water smell. I would stay again now that I know how to find the place.

Owner's Response: 99% of our guests have no difficulty finding the yurt if they follow the detailed directions we provide which say not to use GPS which is where things went wrong for this renter. There wasn't much I could add to the written instructions (once she read them) and I was unable to say much more as she hung up abruptly before I could. Rarely does anyone find the smell of the water offensive but things that normally don't offend can be "gross" when one is pregnant. Sounds like she was stressed by her long work week so I hope our yurt provided her some serenity during her stay. By the way we are currently upgrading our entire water system which should be in place by this Spring.
