About Catkin Kilcher Burton
My family homesteaded Alaska in the late 30's and early 40's. I was born in Basel, Switzerland while my originally Swiss family was touring and my father was lecturing about pioneer life in Alaska. I was raised on the homestead adjacent to this property. I went off to college and joined the Marine Corps. After 31 years of commissioned service, I returned to Alaska and am the Trustee for the Kilcher Family Homestead, 620 acres in a conservation easement. I am a volunteer with the Alaska Humanities Forum and the Civilian Advisory Board to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. I manage four active vacation rentals and love showing the homestead to our guests. One of these days, I hope my children and their children will raise their families here near our beloved homestead.
Catkin Kilcher Burton purchased this House in 2004
Why Catkin Kilcher Burton chose Homer
This property was built on the site of one of the old homesteads (Bartman) which was purchased by my two brothers (Atz and Otto) and myself. It is adjacent to the historic Kilcher homestead with a living museum, room to roam, and one of three access points to the beach. Surrounded by meadows and forests, the sense of splendid isolation is hard to beat. Try to yodel and you'll hear the forest echoing your yodels back.
What makes this House unique
Within walking distance of the Kilcher Homestead, it offers privacy, but with ready access to fine dining, shopping, kayaking, horse back riding, ATV rides, art, theater, fishing and all the other amazing things Homer has to offer. See the Homer Chamber of Commerce website to see how full of life Homer is. There's a homestead-style (read rustic!) sauna which can be used if you're so inclined.

No other place I would rather be
Catkin came thru again. I have stay d at her cabins 4 times in two of her cabins and they are great. And although I can’t Guarantee it I have seen mama moose and baby every time. Once even had one give birth in the spring. Pretty cool
Caribou Meadows was a convenient, clean and a comfortable place to stay. We used the washer and dryer almost everyday. There was a moose and it’s calf walk thru the yard a couple of times. We enjoyed the wildlife and peacefulness of the cabin. Homer is the most wonderful place and will be back again.
Great Stay in Homer
Our family of 6 had a wonderful stay here while visiting from Minnesota. The beds were super comfy, the kitchen had everything we needed, it fit our family well, and the view is beautiful. We watched a couple of movies she had there late at night when we were winding down. We also played their Scattagories game each morning. Catkin was very friendly and easy to get a hold of. We loved our walk to the beach and got to talk to Atz for awhile down there. We enjoyed visiting The Spit and the kids rented fishing gear to fish in the fishing hole in town. We ate breakfast at Cosmic Alaska, and I would highly recommend it. We lucked out and got to go to a concert at The Down East Saloon of Jewel, her dad, brothers, family, and Zac Brown. Great outdoor venue for any concert. We would definitely stay here again!
One of the nicest places we have stayed. Home was cozy and welcoming. One of the highlights was the moose walking across the yard.
This is happily a little outside of Homer, on a hill in a sea of fireweeds. There is a fun large well kept lawn for the kiddos to play in till midnight. I would stay again.
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay!
Amazing place to stay and enjoy all that Homer offers
The home was in a nice quiet area just outside of town and the owner was always checking in to make sure we enjoyed our stay. She provided lots of recommendations which really helped us enjoy our overall stay in the Homer area. The home was nice and provided plenty of room for the wife and I along with another couple. It was unusually warm but the owner brought in fans and which worked fine. overall one of the best places we have ever rented on VRBO.
